Jacob looked at his Beta, who was shaking, naked and dirty in the woods. She was curled up and sobbing and he knew what he needed to do.

Though, if he tried to help her, she would scream and hit him, venomous comments slipping from her lips, and if he walked away, he didn't know what she would do to herself.

Jacob took a deep breath and braced himself for her harsh words. He walked towards the smaller girl and sat next to her, pulling her into his arms.

"Shh," he whispered, stroking her back and placing small kisses on her raven hair.

"Let go," she sobbed. She tried to push him away, but was too weak.

"Shut up. People need touch, Leah. Wolves especially," he muttered and pulled her closer so she was sitting on his lap, dirt ruining his dark blue jeans, but he didn't care.

She only sniffled, not saying any other word. Her breathing had slowed down minutes later and the only sound that was heard in the forest were her quiet whimpers.

She finally spoke. "Sam."

"I know," he whispered.

"And Emily..."

"I know," he repeated.

"Pregnant..."

Jacob said nothing else to the female, only shushing her and rubbing her back as she was too exhausted to even cry. He occasionally rubbed her arm, but continued to kiss her head in attempts to calm her down.

"Thank you," she finally said. She pulled away from him, her raven hair folding around her copper face.

"Of course," Jacob murmured.

He cupped her cheeks and stroked her skin with his thumb, sending electric shocks to her brain.

"You're my best friend, Lee, my Beta, my right hand girl. An Alpha always has to keep a watch out for his Beta."

"Yeah," she whispered.

He placed a gentle kiss on her lips and she returned it. It was not symbolizing love, but it symbolized friendship. That he would always be there for her.

Maybe in the future it would mean something more to the both of them, but for now, they were two broken souls, struggling to find their places in the world.
