Paul Lahote- Better (h)

Moving to Forks had been a difficult adjustment, and you had only moved because your parents had given you two very different options of what to do.

Your Dad had been offered a job opportunity in London which was a massive deal, but you didn't want to move to a whole different country – away from everything you had grown up with and the places that you were used to.

The two options had been for you to move to London with your parents and your brother or you could move to Forks to live with your Uncle Charlie and your cousin Bella.

Even though you knew Forks was a pretty small place, you'd taken that option over London because at least you knew a few people there and it wasn't a completely different country.

You'd been in Forks for just over six months; in that time, you had made friends with a few people at school, but you had found a best friend in Jacob Black.

His Dad was best friends with your Uncle, so he was over a lot along with Jacob, it had been clear that Jacob had been after Bella which you didn't mind but he had been more of a friend to you than anyone else had in school.

As a result of being close with Jacob, he'd introduced you to the rest of his friends – all of whom were guys bar Emily who was in a relationship with one of the guys.

Jacob had taken you for a walk on La Push beach, but luckily it was nearing summer, so it was quite warm.

"What do you think of everyone here then?" Jacob asked as the two of you walked.

You shrugged. "I'm grateful for you because you've introduced me to so many people," you told him, and he smiled. "Paul is probably my favourite out of your little pack though."

Jacob laughed with a slight smirk as you were still unaware of his secret.

"He was a bit intimidating to start with though," you admitted causing Jacob to laugh again.

"Paul wouldn't know how to look friendly even if he tried," Jacob told you and you nodded in agreement. "But you're a tiny little thing so he's extra terrifying."

Smiling, you thought of Paul who had become a relatively good friend to you. "He seems to enjoy teasing me."

Jacob chuckled at your words whilst he nodded in agreement. "That's also Paul for you," he stated. "He teases the girls he likes," he jokingly whispered.

Whilst you though Jacob was only joking, he knew that he wasn't because Paul had confided in the pack about you being his imprint however he had no clue how to go about it.

He knew that Paul had gone for the subtler approach of friendship first and then seeing where it led – which Jacob admired him for.

You rolled your eyes at Jacob before pushing him for his joke, which didn't do much, but Jacob stumbled to make you feel a bit better about your strength.

Soon enough the two of you had made your way back to Emily's place. "I've got to get back to mine, I promise Bella a go on my bike," Jacob told you as he gave you a quick hug.

You laughed at him as he went to his truck before you made your way into the house.

When you realised that no one was in, it surprised you, but Emily's door was always open for everyone even if she wasn't in.

Whilst you were stood in the living room you heard a rather loud sigh from out back in the garden.

Out of curiosity you made your way out the back door, only to see Paul lying on the grass with his eyes closed and his hands behind his head.

Trying your best to be quiet you made your way over to him and cautiously sat down next to him.

"Was that you sighing?" you questioned even though the answer was blatantly obvious.

Paul opened his eyes and turned his head to face you. "I thought I was the only one here."

You shook your head. "Jacob dropped me back here not long ago," you told him.

He sat up, sighing as he did so. "I'm guessing he's here too then."

"No, he's got some sort of date with my cousin," you stated with a shrug.

"And you're not annoyed with that?" he quizzed you.

Your brow furrowed in confusion as you shook your head. "No, why would it?"

"We all thought you two had something going on – I mean he took you for a walk on the beach today," he quickly explained.

You giggled at Paul's words. "Oh god no, he's my friend," your answer caused Paul to smile. "The first friend I made here actually."

Realisation dawned on you as to why Paul might have been upset based on what Jacob told you at the beach.

"Is that why you were upset?" you asked cautiously. "Because you thought Jacob and I were a thing?"

Paul sighed, lying back down on the floor again as he groaned. "I never thought I was that transparent."

You shrugged with a small smile. "It's just something that Jacob said to me earlier."

Confusion appeared in his expression causing you to giggle.

"He said something about you teasing the girls you like," you admitted whilst watching Paul's face to try and gauge his reaction.

He shook his head as he chuckled. "Jacob is always ratting me out."

"Is he right?"

"Yeah he is."

You smiled and quickly hugged him, but when you went to pull away Paul wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you down onto the grass with him.

The two of you were laughing and you pushed up on your hands that were positioned either side of Paul's head.

He shot you a big smile. "You feeling better now?" you asked him.

"You make things better."
