Chapter 3

I sighed as I looked out from under the overhang. Comet looked so happy, frolicking in the clearing without a care in the world. Her gaze was fixed on a butterfly as it jerkily flew away. She jumped, trying to catch it in her outstretched paws. She came down with nothing. She fluffed her long-haired pelt up and glared with her blue eyes. "Stupid butterfly." She said, stomping away, then turning back. "I didn't want to catch you anyway!"
My sister's kit-like behaviour was amusing, making me want to pour with joy, but I couldn't. Mother was still dead, and nothing could bring her back. It didn't help that I had been the survivor. Mother would've done better in this position. . . .
Half of my mind was trying to convince me it wasn't my fault, while the other half was trying to make me believe in myself. 'Come on,' One voice said. 'How are you supposed to survive this? It's completely and utterly useless to hope anything.'
The other voice was the one I wanted to listen too. . . . I just wasn't sure. You can do this Twiggy. Your Mother believes in you, and always will. You know, she's watching you from the skies right now. As long as you believe, you will be fine.
"Oh, I sure hope so." I said aloud.

Darkness.
Loneliness.
Where am I?
A fiery light approached in the distance, but I couldn't tell what it was, or where it was coming from. The ground or sky?
It blazed shudderingly and I blinked in fear. I remembered now. . . .
Two more lights appeared as tiny dots on the horizon. There was more? What had I done to deserve this?
Suddenly I could hear. Comet was mewling again. Was I really asleep? I felt around with my claws for the tiny kit but could feel nothing. She meowed again and I followed the noise, but she wasn't where the noise had come from. . . .
Where was she?
The light- no the comet, was racing towards me now- faster than ever before. I could hear it's whizzing noise and I screeched.
Then I could feel. I could feel as if crashed into me and pulled me into the ground. It pierced my skin, both rubbing and scratching it. Oh the agony. . . . I was soon blinded by pain. I opened my mouth to screech, but dirt and blood entered my mouth and I was forced to cough.
Comet was gone. I had failed my mission. How could it go so wrong? How was that even possible? It wasn't supposed to come tonight- it wasn't.
Help, my mind pleaded. Help me . . . Help . . .

My eyes snapped open with panic. What had just happened? A whooshing sound was heard in the bush, followed by a quick, "Ow!"
Who is that. . . . I am almost sure there is no more cats in this forest. Was I wrong?
"Hello?" I called out. The only reply was the snapping of twigs as the cat ran away. I didn't want to chase after the cat or whatever it was, but I suppose I probably should have because if this was a threat I would have to tell her off. I didn't need more problems at this moment.
I pushed through spiky bushes and rustling leaves until I reached a small clearing. There was a beautiful tabby white she-cat standing there, green eyes wide with alarm. She turned. "Twiggy?" She said, trying to focus her eyes. "Is that you?"
