Chapter 20.

SHALEWA

"Thank you, Doctor." I collect the sonogram from him and smile. I saw my baby move for the first time and my heart swelled in excitement.

"Alright, ma'am. Take care and don't forget to take your multivitamins." He says.

"Alright, Doctor." Smiling, I walk out of the hospital and freeze when I see Amadi by my car. Quickly composing myself, I take my time to stroll to the car, watching how impatient he is. Plus how his eyes were in slits, looking at me like a predator does before pouncing on its prey. They looked dangerous and intimidating but I'm not a coward. I am not scared of him.

"You want to abort my child?!" His eyes shoot at me accusingly. I hiss, annoyed. Well, I am not surprised that this rubbish talk is coming from him. The question is; How did he find out about the child?

"Amadi, what are you saying?" I ask, glaring daggers at him. The idiot thinks I'll come all the way to a General hospital to have an abortion done.

"You want to abort my child, you evil being." He sneered. His voice is raised and passersby are beginning to look.

"Amadi, you're embarrassing me." Tears glistened in my eyes. Is this the same man I had sleepless nights crying over? Is this the same man I was beginning to feel something for? The same Amadi I thought I could count on before this whole ruckus. I hiss at my stupidity.

"Embarrassing you by stopping you from doing something wicked?" He hisses, kisses his teeth and sneers at me.

"Please, let's leave here." I say in a soft voice, not in the mood to have this sort of conversation before an audience.

"We better! You must be mistaking if you think I'll let you leave here without me being with you. Only God knows what next you're capable of since you killed your own child before." I just bow my head down, walking behind him. I don't want to be another piece of social media engagement for the likes of instablog9ja, Gistlover, etc.

"Your keys." He snaps his fingers twice, bringing his palm to view.

"You're not deaf, right? I said, your keys." I don't want any drama so I just hand it over to him.

"Take her car to my house, Godwin." I hear him say.

"Yes, Sir." Godwin answers.

If this man thinks he can take charge just because I am having his child, he must be crowned the biggest joker of the century.

I am just letting this particular incident slide because we are in public. If he doesn't have shame, I do.  Hell, my parents don't even know they were previously meant to have their first grandchild through me. I don't want my family to be bombarded by that information through social media.

Glaring at his hand while he drove, I sigh continuously as I try to control my anger.

He stops at an eatery and drags me out.

"Have you eaten?" He spat.

"Yes, I have." I answer back with venom. I have actually eaten but I am hungry again. However, I am neither eating anything bought by this man nor eating in his presence. To hell with him!

"Liar." He hisses, holding my hand, he walks briskly into the restaurant to sit me down before heading to the counter to place the order.

Rice and chicken is presented before me and the scent wafts through my nose. I stare at the food, my mouth watering for a taste but I shake my head. I won't give in.

"So, you won't eat?" Amadi asks. I shun him and tap on my phone, furiously.

"I am talking to you, Shalewa." His voice is raised and he snatches my phone from my hands.

"What? Did you say anything?" I ask him, as I bend my head to the right and cock my left brow a little. I hear him mutter profanities under his breath.

If one could see steam coming out of people's ears like they portray in cartoons, you could easily tell how angry he is. I am surprised he didn't shout after. He just hands me my phone and continues eating. Once he's done, he signals to a waiter and pays.

As he stands up for us to leave, that's when my stomach fights me. Reluctantly, I pick up my spoon and start playing with the food.

"Let's go." He says.

"A pregnant woman has to eat. Leave me alone, Amadi." I snort, giving him a fake smile and open the cap of the bottle water to drink from it.

Amadi hisses and rubs his hair in frustration. "Okay." He mumbles and sits down.

I go on to eat the food, moaning in happiness as the taste dances across my tongue. Even though I'm not looking up, I could feel his gaze on me.

I signal to the waiter and order a plate of yam porridge. I notice Amadi shift in his chair but he says nothing. I go back to eating my Jollof rice. Soon enough, my yam porridge arrives and I waste no time in downing the porridge, saving my chicken for the last. I'm eating for two, so don't judge me.

Amadi just keeps watching me, I know he's angry but I don't give a fuck.

Excuse my language, baby but your daddy is an ass. I chuckle to myself for that joke.

"What is funny?" He asks, glaring at me.

"I cannot joke with my baby in peace?" Well, that does the magic and shuts him up.

After I'm done eating, he attempts to pay and I smack his hand before requesting for POS. I hand my card for the transaction to be made. It's like this man has forgotten that I have more money than him. Petty, right? Omoh, I don't care o.

From there, we head to his house. Immediately I step in, I rush to the toilet to throw up. Who fries fish in the afternoon? See me, like there's a particular time stipulated for frying fish.

I feel his hands stroking my back and he arranges my box braid, packing it.

"Sorry." This is the calmest I have heard his voice in a while.

"Thank you. Please, water." After cleaning my mouth, I stand up. He flushes the toilet after me. I don't wait for him before walking to his sitting room to have my seat.

"Amadi, I picked Kaima from school already. She's in her room." The same woman I saw the other day comes out of the kitchen. So, she's the one that wanted to kill me with fish.

"Ahh. Thank you so much, Miriam." He hugs her by the side and ruffles her hair playfully. Can he at least tone down the public display of affection?

I internally roll my eyes. He whispers something in her ears, they both look at me and she nods her head before heading to the kitchen. She comes back with a glass of water in her hand. She smiles when handing it to me.

Hmmm.. Scary. Hope there is no poison inside this water. This one she's smiling.

"Thank you." I reluctantly say.

"I'll be back." Amadi says. They both leave the sitting room. Amadi goes to his room while she goes back to the kitchen.

"Aunty Shasha!" Tears poll in my eyes when I hear her voice. Will my baby also be a girl? Kaima runs into my arms, hugging me tight. I try to adjust a little so she doesn't squish my tummy.

"Cutie." I kiss her all over her face and she giggles non-stop.

"I miss you, Aunty Shasha." This child warms my heart in ways she doesn't even know.

"I have missed you too, sweetie. I got you something. I'll bring it later." She nods her head, jumping excitedly on my laps. I actually did. I just got very discouraged to bring it since I was avoiding her father.

"Kaima, excuse us, dear. I want to have a word with her." She nods, give me a peck on my cheeks before leaving.

Miriam came to retrieve the glass from where I kept it. As she turns to leave, he stops her.

"I never really made a proper introduction." He says.  My heart begins to pound in my chest. Why is he doing this to me? He wants to introduce his girlfriend to me.

"Alright." I hear myself say.

"Miriam, meet Shalewa. Shalewa, meet Miriam, my cousin." What? It's like I didn't hear right. His cousin? Wait, so they're not in a relationship but related by blood instead. Interesting. It still doesn't change the fact that he's an ass, though.

"Nice to meet you again, Shalewa." She says, smiling.

"N..Nice to meet you too." I look between the both of them, trying to hide my surprise. After that, she excuses us.

"So, I was thinking..." He begins.

"Okay... thinking what?" I want to be done with this and just go home.  I'm tired from his troubles.

"Since you obviously don't want the child, I want you to stay here for the duration of the pregnancy and have the child. After that, I'll pay you off, the child rights are transferred to me and you leave." Do I look like a surrogate to him?

"Amadi, did you take any drugs? Weed? Codeine? Anything?" He looks taken aback by my question. I need to know because it's only someone that is high that will think of something as ridiculous as this.

"No." He answers with a scowl.

"Then you're the biggest joker ever!" I answer him with a glare.
