Chapter 5
Taehyung and Jungkook entered the frat house and instantly decided it's the worst decision they've ever made in their years of existence.
"Pull up in the monster, automobile gangsta. With a bad bitch that came from Sri Lanka. Yeah I'm in that Tonka, color of Willy Wonka. You could be the king but watch the queen conquer. Okay FIRST THINGS FIRST I'll EAT your brains-" Jin rapped.
"Jin???" Taehyung cried, perplexed. "What is happening? Why are you rapping?"
Namjoon, Jimin, Jackson, Mark and Youngjae were all dancing around Jin. Taehyung was so fucking confused. Jungkook looked like he wanted to end it all.
"We're having a party." Jackson explained like it was the most obvious fucking thing in the world.
"Hey so, I know I said I'd join but now I'm second guessing everything and want to jump off a building. So-" Jungkook began. Taehyung tsked, hitting his shoulder. He walked forward and turned the music off.
Namjoon groaned. "God dammit. Now that loud music is gone, I can hear my thoughts." Namjoon mumbled. Jimin looked at him weirdly.
"Taehyung, I see you got little miss sunshine with you," Mark said. Jungkook glared at him. Mark glared back. Jackson held Mark back, confused as to this weird tension between the two of them.
"Guys, this is Jungkook Jeon. Freshman. 19. Cool kid." Taehyung said, pinching Jungkook's elbow. "He's joining our frat."
"What??" Jimin gasped, jumping up. Namjoon looked at Taehyung, eyebrows raised. Jin hummed, nodding. Jackson grinned. Mark rolled his eyes.
"Yeah," Jungkook said.
"Why did you change your mind? Didn't you think this frat stuff was 'bullshit'?" Namjoon scoffed, questioning this kid's intentions.
"It is. You guys are dancing to Jin rapping Nicki Minaj's verse from Monster by Kanye West at 12 pm on a Tuesday." Jungkook said bluntly.
Everyone paused. Taehyung clapped Jungkook's back. "He has a point." Taehyung said. "Anyways! He's joining. I'll introduce you to everyone," Taehyung said to Jungkook, and Jungkook nodded.
"This is Namjoon Kim. 21, philosophy major. He dresses like a grandpa who never ages." Taehyung said, and then pointed at Jin. "That's Seokjin Kim. He's 22. And he majors in..." Taehyung paused for too long. Taehyung frowned.
"Wait, Jin, what do you major in? How do I not know this?" Taehyung asked. Jin leaned against the counter, eyes closed.
"I major in respecting women and being gay." Jin said calmly. Jimin giggled. Taehyung rolled his eyes with a small smile and then pointed at Jimin.
"You know who that is. Carrot cupcake." Taehyung said. Jimin blushed a little. "Shut up, Tae!! Just call me Jimin."
"Ew," Jungkook said softly under his breath. Taehyung looked at him closely, raising his eyebrow. Jungkook looked at Taehyung. "Carrot cupcake? I barfed."
"Okay, rude. I make nicknames for everyone." Taehyung clicked his tongue. "In fact, I'll make one for you right now," Taehyung said, and then looked at Jungkook, humming to himself in tune. Jungkook blinked carelessly.
Taehyung grinned. "Bunny."
"What?" Jungkook muttered.
"Bunny. You have bunny teeth. So. Bunny." Taehyung decided.
Jungkook looked irked. "That doesn't suit him at all," Mark said. "I was thinking something more like bastard bitch boy-" Mark began, but Jungkook looked at him.
"Shut up," Jungkook grumbled, frowning. Mark gasped in offense, and then puffed his chest.
"Shut your skin tone chicken bone google chrome home flip phone disowned ice cream cone garden gnome extra chromosome metronome dimmadome genome full blown monochrome student loan Indian Jones overgrown flintston x and y hormone friend zone headass up." Mark snapped.
"That was so unnecessary," Jungkook mumbled out. Taehyung sighed.
"You guys are making me look really bad." Taehyung tutted. "Anyways. That's Mark. That's Jackson. He's the dumb jock one." Taehyung whispered to Jungkook. Jungkook snickered under his breath.
"I literally heard you," Jackson said. Taehyung ignored him and then pointed at Youngjae. "That's Youngjae. He's a cutie. He's studying medicine!" Taehyung said proudly. Youngjae smiled brightly. Jungkook made a mental note to never interact with him.
Taehyung led Jungkook down the house, but Jungkook removed Taehyung's hand. "I can walk on my own," Jungkook said, looking at him with his sleek dark eyes, mouth never moving enough to enunciate his words, just say them carelessly.
Taehyung moved his hand. "Right. Sorry." Taehyung smiled sheepishly. Taehyung walked up the stairs quickly. Jungkook followed. Taehyung opened a room door and saw Yoongi, Hoseok, Jinyoung, and Jaebum sitting around, discussing something.
"That's Yoongi. He''s cute and small, but drinks whiskey without flinching." Taehyung said.
"Some of us can actually handle our liquor and don't just drink budlight wherever we go," Yoongi scoffed. Taehyung giggled and then pointed at Hoseok.
"That's Hobi! He dances and-" Taehyung began. Jungkook made a small grunt sound at the back of his throat. Taehyung looked at him. "You alright?"
"Fine," Jungkook said. "Who else?"
Taehyung nodded and then moved on from Hoseok. "That's Jaebum and Jinyoung. I'll be honest with you, I can't tell them apart sometimes." Taehyung said.
"Great. I won't try to." Jungkook said, and then walked away. Yoongi rose his eyebrow at Taehyung.
"He's a weird kid," Yoongi said. Taehyung gave him a little shrug and then followed Jungkook down. Jungkook was frowning.
"Didn't that guy get disqualified or some shit?" Jungkook asked. Bambam stood by Jackson and Mark, talking to them- along with Yugyeom.
"Ah, the last two members. That's Yugyeom, he's tall. That's Bambam. He's always been part of the frat." Taehyung said.
"Then why did you make him try for the-" Jungkook began, but then decided he didn't care and dropped the subject. Taehyung cleared his throat, clapping his hands together, effectively getting everyone's attention.
"Everyone! Please welcome our newest member, Jungkook." Taehyung said, putting his hands on Jungkook's shoulders. Everyone clapped and cheered awkwardly. "He will now be living with us and is one of our brothers. Let's be nice!"
"When do you wanna move in?" Taehyung asked, looking at Jungkook. "You'll probably have to talk to your roommate, right?"
"I can move in today," Jungkook said, blinking. "I'll email the dorm manager or whatever."
"Oh." Taehyung grinned. "Okay! Sure. I'll help you. I don't have any other classes for the day." Taehyung said. Jungkook nodded. "Why don't you go back to your room and pack. I'll meet you there. Unblock me on Instagram, by the way!" Taehyung called out as Jungkook headed for the door.
"No," Jungkook said, stealing Mark's muffin from his hand and walking out of the doors of the frat house.
"What the fuck, that was chocolate chip!" Mark snapped. Namjoon walked over to Taehyung, arms folded.
"How the fuck do you do it, Tae? How do you get everyone to love you?" Namjoon asked a small, amused grin. "I mean, shit, this kid hated your guts. How the hell did you get him to join the frat?"
"Has it ever occurred to you that I'm just really charming?" Taehyung asked, smirking. He made jazz hands. "I'm Taehyung Kim, and I'll change the world."
"You should give a TED talk on making friends," Jimin said. Taehyung gasped, pointing at him. "Oh my god. I totally shoud." Taehyung high-fived Jimin.
"I don't know about him," Yoongi said, walking down the stairs towards the boys. "He's really different from us. I don't know if he'll fit in. What if he just leaves suddenly because he decides he doesn't like us?"
"He won't! He's hilarious. For breakfast we basically scammed Olive's Garden, and-" Taehyung began. Namjoon frowned.
"You did WHAT? Taehyung! I told you to stop doing weird shit!" Namjoon snapped. Jin scoffed.
"Calm down mom," Jin said. Namjoon toned down and poked Jin in the shoulder. Jin poked his chest. Namjoon poked his stomach. Jin got too into it and pushed Namjoon really hard and Namjoon fell to the floor.
"Jin!" Jimin gasped. Jin burst out laughing. Namjoon took his shoe off and got up from the floor, running after Jin with the shoe. Jin laughed, getting a shoe thrown at him while Namjoon chased him.
"W-wow. They're really close, huh?" Jimin asked. Taehyung threw his arm around Jimin.
"Yeah. They've known each other since they were freshmen. Isn't that cool?" Taehyung said. Jimin hummed, slotting himself to Taehyung's side.
"Yeah. Super cool." Jimin said flatly, watching as Namjoon wrapped his arms around Jin and tickled him all over.
*
Taehyung leaned against the doorway of Jungkook's dorm awkwardly. Jungkook was packing his things in a box. Jungkook's roommate sat on his side of the room, on his phone.
"So. Must suck that Jungkook's not going to be your roommate anymore, huh?" Taehyung said to Jungkook's roommate, trying to diffuse the silence.
"I guess." The guy said carelessly, still on his phone.
Taehyung looked at Jungkook and then walked up to him, closely. "Aren't you going to say anything to this guy? Haven't you roomed with him for three weeks or something?" Taehyung whispered.
"I don't know him," Jungkook mumbled, putting black clothes into a box. "He's Japanese I think."
"Jungkook, he's white."
"Oh," Jungkook said, and then closed the box when he was done putting his stuff in. All black stuff. Taehyung noticed Jungkook wearing a black cap with rings hanging off its side. He sighed.
"Can I take you shopping some time? I think you'll look great in red." Taehyung said. Jungkook looked at Taehyung, who was wearing a bright red sweatshirt and blue jeans.
"No," Jungkook said. He picked the box up with one hand, with ease, and then grabbed his bag from another and tossed it over his shoulder. "Bye Joaquin," Jungkook's roommate said, still looking at his phone, scrolling.
"Bye," Jungkook said, walking out of the dorm. Taehyung frowned, following Jungkook.
"He just called you Joaquin."
"He doesn't know my name. I don't know his. I think it's Raj." Jungkook said. Taehyung threw his arm in the air. "Why would his name be Raj- he's the whitest dude I've ever seen!"
"I don't know. Who am I rooming with?" Jungkook asked as they walked towards the frat.
"I don't know either, honestly. I used to have a roommate but he- um- left." Taehyung said. Jungkook looked at him, noticed the hitch. But Jungkook didn't say anything.
"So. Where did you live before this? Did you grow up in New York?" Taehyung asked, looking at Jungkook.
"My parents are Korean. I grew up here." Jungkook said. Taehyung snickered. "So vague. I'll tell you my life story instead. I grew up in Brooklyn, I have 3 siblings, a single mon, and I lived in Korea till I was 3." Taehyung explained, and then looked at Jungkook as if waiting for him to say something.
No response. Both neared the house, and then Jungkook looked at him. "Single mom. Is she hot?" Jungkook asked.
"Fuck you." Taehyung said, and Jungkook started laughing. Taehyung smiled a little at his laugh, it was kind of pitchy and cute.
But he'd realized with Jungkook, that noticing something about him should be kept to himself, not said aloud. So Taehyung didn't say anything, just scribbled on a little sticky note in his mind that Jungkook's laugh = cute.
They reached the frat and were met with Hoseok. "You guys are here! Great. Lemme show you your room," Hoseok said.
"It's not a hotel. Just tell me where it is." Jungkook cut him in, Hoseok paused for a second and then nodded quickly. "Oh. Um, yeah, sure. It's upstairs. First room on the right?-"
"First room on the right? That's not my room." Taehyung snapped. Jungkook looked at him and rose his eyebrow.
"Did you want me to room with you?" Jungkook asked, in a slightly cocky, almost smug tone of voice.
Taehyung looked at him. "No," Taehyung said fast. "I just want a roommate. Shut up." Taehyung hit his back lightly. Jungkook smirked.
"Haha, Taehyung you're all alone and- Wait!" Jimin yelped. "That's MY room! I thought I was rooming alone!!"
"Hey roomie," Jungkook said, and then walked past him, up the stairs, and to the first door on the right.
Hoseok was looking down. Yoongi walked up to the red haired boy and fixed his little acorn beanie. "What's wrong, Hobi?" Yoongi asked in a soft voice. Taehyung looked at them.
Yoongi always had some sort of alert alarm in his head. Everytime Hoseok looked even a little down or low, aka unlike his usual self, Yoongi went running to him to make sure he was okay.
"I told you he hates me. He's nice to Jimin and Taehyung and stuff. I didn't even do anything." Hoseok mumbled.
"Aww, no, no, he doesn't hate you." Yoongi said to him, softening. "Jungkook's just weird and rude. You didn't do anything wrong, you've been nothing but sweet." Yoongi said, looking at the boy.
"Thanks." Hoseok said, smiling. "You're really nice, Yoongles." Hoseok said, pecking his forehead, and then walked away rather quickly. Yoongi saw him go away and dropped his shoulders for a second.
Yoongi looked at Taehyung. "Fuck you."
"Wow, I breathed."
"No. Tell Jungkook not to be mean to anyone or it's on SIGHT." Yoongi snapped, pointing at Taehyung.
"Jungkook would beat your ass, no offense bro." Jackson said, sitting on the counter, drinking beer at, like, 3 pm on a Tuesday.
"True. I just- ugh- I hate new things." Yoongi grumbled, walking away. Taehyung felt weirdly responsible for Jungkook's actions and went up the stairs, finding Jungkook's new room he shared with Jimin.
Jimin was standing there, eyes big, orange-pink hair falling on his eyes. "That's my hairdryer! Put it back!"
"It's on my desk space." Jungkook said. Jimin frowned and stomped his foot. "Well, put it there! Now give it-" Jimin reached for it.
Jungkook looked at him and then raised the hairdryer up. Jimin frowned and jumped, trying to get it, but it was far from his reach. Jungkook smirked just the slightest and raised it up higher, using his height to his advantage.
"Jungkook, stop bullying Jimin." Taehyung cut in. Jungkook snickered and gave Jimin the hairdryer. Jimin took it and walked away, upset. Taehyung walked up to Jungkook, who'd kept his box down.
"I'm not bullying him. Chill-" Jungkook began, trying to walk away, but Taehyung grabbed his wrist.
"I'm serious." Taehyung said sharply. Jungkook stilled. "Just because you're in this frat doesn't mean you can fuck around, okay? Being a frat member doesn't give you an advantage over anyone. We have parties, we get drunk, we hook up with girls, but that's it. Don't push it."
"What're you talking about?" Jungkook asked, quieter. Taehyung stepped closer to him.
"You said it yourself- the image you have of the fraternities. It's these guys who think they have some sort of power over others, and then walk around in groups and have a cult mentality. They cheat on tests and take advantage of girls. That is not tolerated over here, okay?" Taehyung said lowly, looking him in the eyes.
"I wouldn't," Jungkook said, slight unsteadiness in his voice with how close Taehyung was, how intimidating he looked for once. "I don't do shit like that."
"Good. Just making sure you know." Taehyung then took a step away from him, and let out a small breath he didn't know he was holding. It was silent for a long time, and then-
"Okay, jeez, Jungkook. I know I joked about you having a degrading thing, but your nipples are literally rock hard right now." Taehyung blurted, looking at his chest. Jungkook looked at Taehyung, and then looked down at his own chest, and then back up.
Jungkook didn't say anything. Taehyung's eyes widened. His mouth fell open very slightly. "Dude. Do you have nipple piercings?"
"Yeah." Jungkook mumbled nonchalantly. Taehyung rose his eyebrows- very, very showed by this particular information that created images in his head.
"Damn." Taehyung whistled, still keeping his eyes on Jungkook's nipples. How did Taehyung not notice it before?? He could see the indents of the metal barbell piercings pressing against his tight shirt, which was already clung to Jungkook's firm chest.
Taehyung looked at his nipples for a few more seconds, and then tore his eyes away when Jungkook gave him a weird look. "I'm gonna go." Taehyung said, walking out of the room really fast.
"Is Taehyung into nipples or something?" Jungkook asked Jimin when the orange haired boy walked out of the washroom.
"Everyone is." Jimin replied. Jungkook looked at him for a split second and then sighed under his breath, shaking his head.
*
"We have a party. In an hour. And we don't. Have. Vodka." Namjoon said, hands against his head.
"Dude, c'mon. We can make Vodka at home. Like this." Jackson explained. He opened the fridge and took out a potato. Then he put the potato in the blender and began blending it, the sound being really loud. After he was done, he took the container off the blending thingy and handed it to Namjoon.
Namjoon took the blender jar full of mashed up raw potato and threw it at Jackson. "Anyways." Namjoon moved on. "What do we do?"
"I'll go get some from the store." Taehyung said, wearing a red bandana, black t-shirt, skinny jeans. "I don't have money though."
"That's okay, Taehyung. Steal it." Jin said drinking something from a straw. "Be gay. Do crimes."
"Are you sipping wine from a mug with a straw??" Taehyung asked. Jin tsked. "I'm going through something, leave me alone."
"What's wrong, Jin?" Jimin asked. Jin looked at the smaller boy, and smiled at him. "Nothing much, don't worry about it Jiminie." Jin said, pinching the boy's cheek.
"Well, don't worry about it. It'll be fine." Jimin comforted, was always good at comforting. He put his hand on Jin's shoulder, patting, but kept it on his shoulder for a little too long, just... feeling the muscle underneath his shirt.
"You okay?" Jin asked softly, and his lips turned to a smirk when Jimin's cheeks reddened.
"You. Um. Shoulders." Jimin stammered, moving his hand away. "Wide."
"Yeah?" Jin asked, bringing the straw between his plump lips, taking some more wine in. Jimin looked at him quietly.
"Yo, what the fuck." Jackson said. "Namjoon threw a whole blender full of potato puree to my head and y'all talking about shoulders and shit."
"Oh my gosh, that's so sad I almost dropped my venti iced vanilla soy milk latte with 4 pumps of mocha and 3 shots of vodka with a springle of salt and freshly whipped vegan cream with a caramel drizzle only half of my cup and chocolate drizzle on the other side with a dash of crushed ice." Jin said.
"I hate you guys. I found some money, so I'll go get the vodka. But I don't want to go alone because, um, I look really hot sexy cute lovely attractive. I'll get mugged." Taehyung said, shrugging.
"Where are you going?" Jungkook's voice came. Taehyung turned around and saw the boy walking down the stairs, leather jacket and black ripped tight jeans clad to his body.
"To the store to get some vodka. Wanna come?" Taehyung asked. Jungkook looked around to see who else was in the kitchen and then nodded.
They walked out of the frat and outside onto the pathway, the sun setting in the distance. Jungkook looked at him. "Aren't you still 20? They won't let you buy vodka."
"I have Jin's ID. Don't worry. The owner's American. He'll think we look the same." Taehyung said. Jungkook snickered.
They walked down the campus, towards the nearest store. On their way to the store, both of them saw a skateboard laying around.
"Steal it." Jungkook said. Taehyung frowned. "What? Why? I wouldn't do that, it's someone else's and they forgot it here and- fine." Taehyung said, stepping onto the skateboard with one foot.
"Can you ride?" Jungkook asked. Taehyung looked at Jungkook, smirking, eyes giving a mischievous glint. "Oh, I can ride a lot of things," Taehyung said sultrily.
"Stop." Jungkook said really quickly.
"Horses, bulls, bikes, your dad, cycles,-"
"Stop," Jungkook repeated. Taehyung stepped onto the skateboard with both feet after building up momentum and then zoomed forward. Jungkook walked after him.
Jungkook practically jogged with him while Taehyung rolled down the sidewalk on his stolen skateboard, grinning. "We have done two thefts today."
"I mean, kind of. I can't believe you told the guy you put sheep placenta on your face every night. Is that even a real thing? It shouldn't be." Taehyung said, but then while going really fast, the sidewalk sloped downhill, right towards the store, and Taehyung rolled down in a flash and slammed against the store's entrance.
"Fuck." Taehyung groaned loudly, falling to the floor, skateboard slipping from under him. Taehyung was on the floor, on his back, eyes closed, groaning. Jungkook rushed up to him.
"Taehyung. Taehyung." Jungkook said quickly. He crouched down, and Taehyung thought Jungkook was going to help him up, but Jungkook kept him down, pinned to the ground.
"What are you doing?" Taehyung hissed. Jungkook looked at him.
"Third. Third theft. We will perform our third theft. Now play dead." Jungkook said. Taehyung frowned for a split second and then closed his eyes.
"Oh my gosh! Is he okay? Does- does he need a bandage?" The storekeeper asked, rushing outside to see them.
"Oh god! Oh my god, he's going to die! Do- do you have any rubbing alcohol?" Jungkook asked, looking at the storekeeper with raised eyebrows.
"Oh, god- no! No, I don't! Let me see if I-"
"V-vodka," Taehyung croaked, opening his eyes slightly. "It will help. Please. Before I die. Apply it on my wounds... let me heal... then... let my soul be rekindled with my ancestors'..." Taehyung trailed.
Jungkook almost laughed. The storekeeper gasped. "Oh no! I'll go get a bottle. Wait here." He said, and then rushed back into the store. When he left, Taehyung burst into laughter.
"Stop- stop laughing!! He can still see you-" Jungkook snapped, a small smile on his face nonetheless. Taehyung couldn't stop laughing.
"I-it's so stupid," Taehyung laughed, tipping his head back to the grawled sidewalk. "Why're we doing t-this?" Taehyung asked in between laughs, eyes in crescents.
"I don't know!! Shut up!" Jungkook snipped, letting out a small laugh, putting his hands on Taehyung's mouth to shut him up. The storekeeper returned with a bottle of vodka.
"Here. Get better soon. RIP." The storekeeper said, handing Jungkook the bottle.
"RIP indeed." Jungkook repeated. The storekeeper looked down. "I'll go in and get the first aid kit." The man said, going back inside the store.
The moment he left, Jungkook yanked Taehyung from the ground. "Run!" Jungkook hissed, pushing Taehyung forward.
"What? No! I feel bad- fuck- wait-" Taehyung said, taking his wallet out of his backpocket quickly. He took out a 20 dollar bill and chucked it into the store really fast, and then ran away with Jungkook, back towards campus.
"Why did you do that??" Jungkook asked, holding the bottle tightly in his hands as they ran.
"It's more fun to do bad stuff sometimes." Taehyung responded. Jungkook snickered, and then they both ran across the grass and cut their path short to the frat house, entering it quickly.
By the time they were back, the party already started.
