Chapter 11
There was something very strange about walking down an empty street at 6:57 AM alongside Taehyung drenched, with no money, no phone, no map, nor any willpower. But Jungkook realized that he hadn't experienced everything in his life yet, and Taehyung seems adamant to make sure that's undone.
"Here's the thing," Taehyung said. His hands were fit in his pocket, he wandered carelessly, as if the looming thought of oh my god I have no way to get back home didn't matter. Maybe it didn't. Not to him. Taehyung looked happy. "I'm sure if we keep walking we'll find our university."
"Taehyung, the bus ride was half an hour and the driver drove like he was on acid. Walking back will take us at least 8 hours." Jungkook said, picking on his fingers. He looked carefree, but in a different way, in a way that was oddly concerning because it was most definitely not thoughtless. Well-intentioned, for sure.
"Don't worry about the maths. Let's just walk for now." Taehyung said, hands slipping out of his pockets. "Look," Taehyung pointed up. "Birds."
Jungkook glanced and saw some pelicans sitting atop the wooden sign for a closed pub that would open in 5 hours. It smelt of dead fish and salty water around them. What earlier was a gentle sea breeze now was distasteful and detestable.
"Birds." Jungkook snickered to himself. Taehyung looked at Jungkook, who had an eyebrow lifted. "How can you be so careless?"
"What?" Taehyujng asked, the bright smile he had earlier on his face upon spotting pelicans dying down a little. Jungkook stopped in his steps.
"We're soaking. We have no money. No idea where to go. And you- you don't even care? Look at the birds- the fuckin' birds??? Dude," Jungkook stepped closer to him. "We're gonna die."
Taehyung looked at Jungkook closely. "So?" Taehyung asked in a soft voice.
"So-" Jungkook began, but then looked away from Taehyung, who felt too close. He stepped away. "What do we do?"
"Weren't you the one who was raving, like, a week ago about digging up bones from a graveyard and then proceeding to force me into putting fish eyeballs into the drinks of our friends?"
"That's different," Jungkook mumbled.
"We live very contrasting lives, Jungkook. We have different morals, different ideas of what 'fun' is. But we both like living life close to the edge. Don't turn back now, not when I'm about to fall off," Taehyung said, arms on his hips.
"You're not," Jungkook said. "Sorry. I just... I've never done anything like this before."
"What makes you think I have?" Taehyung asked with a chuckle. Jungkook looked at him with curiosity.
"I don't know, you seem like that kind of guy to just... let loose."
"I like letting loose, Jungkook. I like letting very loose." Taehyung said in a whisper, and Jungkook's cheeks almost burned, but thankfully his skin allowed him to have some composure.
"No, I've never run away from everything in the middle of the night with a random goth I befriended a month ago to see the sunrise thirty minutes away from the city." Taehyung sighed and began walking again. "But I'd love to do it again." Taehyung added.
They walked for another few minutes as the sun began rising high in the sky. People began leaving for work and dogs began going for walks (with their owners, of course. Dogs didn't just start walking on their own out on the streets. Though that would be quite cool). The day had begun and Taehyung and Jungkook felt most out of place.
"When I was 12," Jungkook said suddenly, his hands shoved into the pockets of his sweatshirt. He looked cold. "I went to an amusement park alone."
Taehyung looked at him peculiarly. Jungkook continued. "I wanted to run away from home and stole some money, but instead, I went to ride roller coasters and eat hotdogs all alone."
Taehyung didn't ask about the part of the sentence that was concerning, but rather, "Was it fun? Going alone?"
"Not really," Jungkook said. "I felt dizzy and scared."
Taehyung hummed, looking ahead. "Don't you want to know how the story ended?" Jungkook asked.
"I think I know." Taehyung smiled. "We all do dumb shit when we're 12."
Taehyung and Jungkook kept walking until Taehyung stopped in his steps. Jungkook thudded into him and turned to see what the boy was looking at. A library.
"Let's go in. I'm sure they give free coffee." Taehyung said.
"Smart," Jungkook said, and both of them walked into the library. The ceilings were designed and carved dark wood and the stretch of shelved holding books went on for miles and took twists and turns and formed lanes and two stories. Taehyung grabbed Jungkook's hand and led him inside.
"Can't find a coffee machine," Taehyung muttered under his breath, but Jungkook suddenly changed their direction and began dragging Taehyung down the library, down different allies. It felt like a maze, they were figuring out and their only surroundings were shelves of colored book spines.
"Nice," Jungkook said, at the end of the library. Jungkook let Taehyung's hand go and began looking at some books, letting his fingers dance down them, seeing the titles, trying to find one.
"Huh. We met in a library." Taehyung said, looking around. "And you were reading Sailor Moon manga."
"Yes. The university library has all the volumes except no. 16..." Jungkook said, picking one out. He flipped through the pages.
"We can't buy it. Or rent it. Or... well, we could steal it-"
"I don't wanna steal it. We don't have anything to do. Let's just sit here and read." Jungkook said, walking over to the edge of the library, a little nook with two bean bag chairs, a small table in-between, and a lamp. Jungkook sloshed himself down on the red bean bag and began reading.
"Oh." Taehyung was stumped for a second. Jungkook got engrossed in the manga. Taehyung sighed, folding his arms. He walked over to Jungkook, now looming above him. Jungkook nudged his foot with his own, and then looked up.
"Go get coffee," Jungkook said in a faint voice, his eyes looking doey from this angle. Taehyung looked at him for a few seconds and then nodded, turning around.
Taehyung returned with two cups of coffee from a coffee machine and a packet of biscuits. "Turns out the girl who works at the library loves K-Pop so she gave me this," Taehyung said, putting the pack of Oreos onto the table beside Jungkook. Jungkook didn't look up. "That's weird. Just 'cause you're Korean? I hate K-Pop fans who act like that."
"Oh no no. I pretended like I was a member of a K-Pop group. Just started singing. Seollenda me likey, me likey, likey, likey, me likey, likey, likey- dugeun dugeun dugeun, heart heart!" Taehyung started singing loudly, making finger hearts.
"Stop- Tae- Taehyung!! Stop singing Likey by Twice and sit down!" Jungkook hissed. Taehyung pursed his lips and sat down on the bean bag beside him, slouching. Two older women looking for coupon catalogs looking at Taehyung judgingly.
"Should I read something? What should I read? Manga? No... I don't wanna start a new one. Maybe I should just get a book. A novel? Ugh, who has the time-"
"Taehyung," Jungkook said, nudging his foot again. "Shut up. Go get a book. You're so loud."
Taehyung picked himself off from the bean bag chair and trudged to look at the shelves of books, but then groaned to himself, not finding anything interesting. "I'm judging these books by their cover and none of them interest me."
"Taehyung..."
"I'm sleepy. Forget it, I'm just gonna take a nap." Taehyung said. He sat down on the bean bag and then curled up. Jungkook looked at him as he closed his eyes and tried to get to sleep. Jungkook would've smiled fondly at the boy who was attempting to make himself smaller, but then Taehyung opened his eyes.
"I can't sleep if you keep looking at me."
"I-I wasn't-"
"This is uncomfortable. Wait, move."
Taehyung moved Jungkook's hand, sludged around a bit, and then placed his head on Jungkook's lap, his legs on his own bean bag. Taehyung sighed. "Now this is comfortable." Taehyung closed his eyes, grinning.
Jungkook looked down at him with surprise, but then chuckled to himself and held the book with one hand, using the other to card through Taehyung's mint hair. Taehyung hummed.
"Your thighs are comfy. Nice and thick."
"Go to sleep," Jungkook said, and Taehyung did.
He fell asleep. He must've been up from very early in the morning, Jungkook thought. Or maybe he never slept. Either way, Jungkook let him sleep cozily and read his manga and drank his coffee.
Almost two hours later, Jungkook closed the end of the manga, and then realized they'd been here for a long time and Jungkook didn't even know because he'd been so engrossed in that little book. Jungkook bit his lip, looking down at Taehyung, who looked sound asleep with his mouth slightly open.
Jungkook put his manga down on the table. Should he wake him up? He should wake him up. Should he wake him up????? He should. Right? Should he? Oh god. Jungkook was confused.
Jungkook nudged his head slightly. "Hey," Jungkook whispered gently. Taehyung moved his head away, grumbling something under his breath. Jungkook nudged him again. "Tae."
Taehyung looked annoyed but opened his eyes, the irritation semingly fading away upon seeing Jungkook's brown eyes boring into his own. "Hi," Jungkook said. "We should go now."
"O-oh," Taehyung breathed out, and then sat up groggily, scratching the back of his head. "Uh. Yeah, I guess."
Jungkook and Taehyung got up. Taehyung blinked his still sleepy eyes as he walked out of the library. Jungkook followed, keeping the book back from where he picked it up. Taehyung yawned as he walked into the morning. It was 9 AM.
"Should we do the fake birthday cake prank again?" Taehyung asked with a sniffle.
They did the fake birthday cake prank again.
After pretending it was Jungkook's 14th birthday at some local diner and eating a whole overbaked vanilla cake decorated messily with strawberries, Jungkook and Taehyung got up and ran out of the restaurant, the tinge of guilt they felt getting removed because of how utter shit the cake tasted.
"Let's do something stupid," Taehyung said.
"Everything you do is stupid."
"First of all, relax. Second of all, true, but you didn't have to call me out like that." Taehyung said, and Jungkook rolled his eyes with a smile. "Let's play, like, 21 questions or something."
Jungkook stopped in his steps. "You were a fuckboy in highschool."
"Huh?" Taehyung asked, confused, stopping as well.
"You were... weren't you? You were a jock too..." Jungkook said, peering his eyes. "You had many people crushing on you, didn't you? You probably slept with all of them."
"Stop psychoanalyzing me," Taehyung whispered, and Jungkook rose his eyebrows.
"Touché," Jungkook said back.
"I wasn't a fuckbody," Taehyung said. Jungkook snickered. Taehyung sighed. "I wasn't a mean fuckboy. I was nice! I just didn't like getting into relationships and when I realized that hurt some girls I stopped. That said, I was in a basketball team, so technically I was a jock."
"Ha." Jungkook grinned. "Knew it."
"Screw you. Now let me guess about you." Taehyung said, turning to look at him. Jungkook looked untethered. "You were in your school rock band with three other guys who only hung out together to get high once a week but otherwise didn't really have an emotional connection. You spent most of the lunchtimes in your classrooms which is why you're so weirdly good at maths. You've always worn black and that scared your peers off and made them think you were rude and cold even though you're actually a normal guy."
Jungkook blinked his eyes. Taehyung tilted his head. "Is that it?"
Jungkook took a deep breath. "I wasn't in the school rock band, I was in the school dance group. I hung out with three other guys but we didn't meet up to get high, we met up to talk about anime. I didn't spend lunchtimes in my classrooms, I spent after school in my classrooms because I didn't like going back home, which is why I'm so weirdly good at maths. I didn't always wear black I started when I was 16 because it looks good. And-" Jungkook looked away. "I think it did scare people off."
Taehyung nodded, impressed. "Damn... school dance group and anime club advocate, huh?"
"Shut up," Jungkook muttered. "Don't tell anyone."
"I am fucking telling everyone that you're the biggest weeb on this planet."
"Not that. About the dance thing." Jungkook added quickly.
"What? Why? Wait, is it serious? Oh my god, Jungkook Jeon are you secretly really good at dancing or something? You are a secret K-Pop member, aren't you? Go- do it. Dance right now." Taehyung said, pointing at him.
"Tae," Jungkook said, looking at him pensively. "Stop. I don't dance anymore. Please don't tell anyone."
Taehyung smiled at him. "I'm just kidding, Jungkook." Taehyung threw his arm over his shoulders. "But I'm happy you told me. Can I ask something else?" Taehyung asked, looking at him closely.
"It's about the nipple piercings, isn't it..."
"Absolutely."
"I got it a week before coming to university because my mom hates piercings," Jungkook said. He then looked at Taehyung, who was frowning. "I'm a rebel."
"An ungrateful rebel. Don't be mean to your mom."
"I'm not ungrateful," Jungkook mumbled. "Whatever. Where- where are we going?"
"I don't know, we're just walking," Taehyung said idly, walking through the shade of the tree to avoid the hot glaring sun.
"Why's your hair mint colored?" Jungkook asked suddenly.
Taehyung shrugged. "Why's your hair black?"
"Because I don't want to damage my follicles by bleaching it, dumbass."
"Calm down, snarky." Taehyung scoffed, poking his waist. "Besides. It's mint because I think it's looks cool. That's all. There's no meaning behind it." Taehyung smiled. "And Jin said it was his least favorite color so I did it out of spite to piss him off."
"There it is," Jungkook said, and Taehyung giggled.
"Why do you always wear black? I think you'd look great in red. Or orange. Or yellow. Or green. Or blue. Or-"
"You're naming every color of the rainbow."
"I think you'd look good in every color, to be honest," Taehyung said, letting go of his hold on Jungkook. "Any sort of color would suit you."
"What about no clothes?" Jungkook asked all of a sudden, his words giving Taehyung's mind a whiplash. "Would that suit me?"
Taehyung's mouth went dry as he darted his eyes to Jungkook, who was looking at Taehyung with one eyebrow slightly raised. Taehyung's cheeks reddened ever so slightly. "I don't. Um. I don't know. I guess. I'll have to see and tell you."
Small silence as they walked down the street, both of them smiling just a little to themselves. "So do you wanna actually play 21 questions?" Jungkook asked, and Taehyung cleared his throat.
"Yeah! Question one, do you believe people deserve second chances?"
"Oh my god, fuck you," Jungkook said suddenly. "Not this kind of shit. I thought you'd ask me what my favorite color is."
"I know what your favorite color is, you idiot. Alright, fuck you, what's your favorite color?"
"Black."
"Okay, but it's better than that lowkey existential deep shit you were asking me. Save that for 3 AM when I'm high. Anyways. My turn." Jungkook mumbled.
"What's going on with you and Samantha?"
"Huh?" Taehyung asked, looking at Jungkook with raised eyebrows. Jungkook looked away. "You wanna know? Oh- okay. We just sleep together sometimes. It's nothing serious. Samantha might seem vain at times, but she's actually a really nice girl."
"Cool," Jungkook said flatly.
Taehyung laughed. "Why? Ooh, are you jealous-"
"Taehyung you almost burnt the whole frat down when you found me sleeping with Jimin," Jungkook said, and Taehyung looked away, pursing his lips. "Anyways. Ask something."
"When did you find out you were gay?"
"I've always known... I don't know. Just never felt attraction towards girls." Jungkook said. "I like boys."
"Nice. I like boys too. And girls, of course. And everyone in between and outside. Now ask me," Taehyung giddily.
"Okay okay, but can we sit down?" Jungkook asked. Taehyung hummed. They found a park nearby and walked to it, and by the pretty rose bushed and emerald green lawns and marble fountains bursting with blue water was a plain brown bench. They sat down.
"Have you ever been with a guy?" Jungkook asked.
"Uh. Yeah. I mean... I was with a dude in high school, kind of? But that was just experimenting. I was with a guy properly in college- um. Well. Not properly. Like. Kind of. We-" Taehyung was stammering, and Jungkook looked at him with a small frown.
"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."
"No, it's fine. I talk about everything, I should be able to talk about this. God, I'm weird. Yeah. Uh. I was with a guy for most of last year." Taehyung nodded. He grinned quickly. "That's all."
"Cool," Jungkook said, not asking further.
"Boobs or butt?"
"I'm gay."
"Irrelevant. Boobs or butt?"
"Butt," Jungkook said with a squeak. "I don't know. Stop."
"Dudes can have tits. Have you seen Jackson? Or that guy in our statistics class, Wonho? Or- fuck- Namjoon???" Taehyung gasped. "Namjoon has a thick pair of-"
"I hate you so much," Jungkook mumbled. Taehyung smiled pearly. "Are you into BDSM?"
Taehyung froze. Jungkook looked at him for a few seconds. Taehyung squinted his eyes.
"Are you asking out of curiosity or are you into BDSM?......."
"That's doesn't answer my question," Jungkook whispered.
"Uh. Okay. No. Never tried it. Did get tied up once though." Taehyung smirked. "Yeah. That was kinda hot. Anyways. Are you a virgin?"
"No. Have you ever had sex with a dude?"
"Yes. When did you lose your virginity?"
"Four days after my 17th birthday. Top or bottom?" Taehyung asked.
"Usually top," Jungkook said, and then leaned in. "But I wouldn't mind taking it up the ass," Jungkook whispered softly, eyes darker.
Taehyung froze for, about, 38 whole seconds before breathing out deeply. "Cool. Do you wanna make out?"
"Yes."
Taehyung grabbed Jungkook by the side of his neck, pulled him in and then pressed their lips together. Jungkook put his hand on Taehyung's side, their lips moving fast, rapid against one another like quick waves in night seas.
Taehyung swung his leg over Jungkook's and moved over to straddle him. Jungkook put his hands on either side of Taehyung's waist, tilting his chin to kiss his mouth, Taehyung's hands gripping his jaw tightly.
Taehyung pulled away to breathe into his lips, and Jungkook bit his lip, looking up. "I've wanted to do that since I met you."
"Yeah?" Jungkook asked, and Taehyung nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, me too."
Taehyung kissed him again, this time tugging on his bottom lip, pulling it between his teeth for a split second before Jungkook squeezed his waist tightly and pressed his tongue into his mouth, a clash of their tongue making all of this so much hotter than it needed to be at 10 AM in a park.
"There's-" Taehyung began as Jungkook's hand moved under his shirt. "Children. Children near- nearby-"
"Fuck them kids."
"Jungkook no," Taehyung pulled away. "Let's just... go somewhere else."
"Where?" Jungkook hissed. "There's not a lot of places we can be alone at right now!"
"Yes there are," Taehyung said, and then got up from Jungkook's lap. "Follow me."
"That's what I've been doing," Jungkook said, and then got up and began following him. Both their hearts thumped silly in their chests, a beginning of something neither of them knew the endings to. Something new had come to surface and both were far too excited to contain it.
"Jin thought we had a sexual tension, I thought he was kidding," Taehyung said as he rushed down the street. Jungkook close behind him.
"Really?" Jungkook asked. "I thought I made it obvious."
"Made what obvious?"
"You know," Jungkook said, and then gulped under Taehyung's gaze. "That- That I want to pin you against the wall and make out with you until your feet give out."
Taehyung stopped walking. "That's hot."
"I know, and I wanna do it, so where are we going?" Jungkook asked with a snap.
"I was- I was going to that parking lot where they have all those empty buses so we could make out in one of them-"
"God, fuck, that's so far away," Jungkook said, breathing heavily. "Fuck that. C'mere." Jungkook said, grabbing him by the shirt and pinning him against a tree. Jungkook pressed their lips together.
Taehyung pulled away to grunt. "The tree hurts my back."
"Grab my ass, it'll lessen the pain," Jungkook whispered.
"Okay." Taehyung grabbed Jungkook's ass, and the younger continued making out with him, licking into his mouth, finding him out, feeling him out. Taehyung squeezed his ass and smiled at that little whimper that tugged in the back of Jungkook's throat.
"Fuck," Taehyung breathed, pulling away. "If you're always like this then you're really going to make my head spin, Jungkook."
"Then get ready to bash your skulls out, Tae," Jungkook smirked, before kissing him on the lips again.
Jungkook's hand traveled down Taehyung's side, down the curve of his waist, to his hip, to feel something on his trousers, a bulge.
"Is that your wallet or are you happy to see me?" Jungkook asked cheekily.
Taehyung blinked. "Oh fuck, wait, I think that is my wallet."
"What?" Jungkook said, stepping back. Taehyung put his hand into his pocket and then took out a small wallet. Taehyung opened it. It had cash inside.
Jungkook took a deep breath, closing his eyes and balling his hands into fists. Taehyung gulped. "Oh god, Jungkook, I had no clue I had this-"
"I hate you so much. I'm drenched and making out with a frat. Take me home right now." Jungkook grumbled.
"Don't be upset." Taehyung pouted, and Jungkook put his hands through his damp hair.
"I'm not. I just hate you so much. Let's go back, seriously." Jungkook said, and Taehyung sighed. Instead of grabbing the bus again, Taehyung flagged down a taxi.
They got into the back of the taxi and told the driver where to go. Jungkook leaned against the headrest and closed his eyes for a few seconds, but then opened them to look at Taehyung, who was leaning in, watching the horizon of New York City, a smile on his face.
"You knew you had money the whole time, didn't you?" Jungkook breathed out.
"Yup." Taehyung said.
"You just did that so you could hang out with me?"
"Yup."
Jungkook looked away, but couldn't help smiling to himself. "Smooth motherfucker," Jungkook whispered under his breath, not realizing how utterly whipped he already was for the loud-mouthed mint haired frat boy.
