The Noises Of The Night

They flew back to Smashville once the week was over. They arrived late at night, so everyone went right to bed, not even bothering to shower. They all got under covers and closed their eyes ready to relax.

Except Shulk. He decided to go on his phone for a bit. As he was, he heard something outside. He looked out his window, there was nothing there. He raised a brow and looked back at his phone. He heard it again. Nothing there. What the hell? He thought. He texted Robin about it. He responded by asking if he was scared. Shulk told him he wasn't, he was mostly curious to what it was. And he didn't want it bother him the rest of the night. Robin asked what it sounded like, and he answered it sounded like and animal almost. They ended the conversation with talking about it tomorrow.

When morning came, Shulk quickly got up and showered. He changed into a pair of sweats and some socks. Yeah it's July but who cares? He walked downstairs and grabbed his breakfast, that was made by the great Marth. He basically chugged it down and put the plate in the dishwasher. He sat back down and looked around for Robin, but the tactician was no where in sight.

"Where's Robin?" He asked.

"We forced him to go grocery shopping with Palutena," Marth said while sharpening a knife. "He'll be back."

"You look really menacing," Ike sneered.

"I was just sharpening it for our Late 4th of July barbecue!" Marth said and put the knife away.

"That's not until next week!"

"What's 4th of July Marth?"

"It's the celebration of the United States of America, they celebrate their independence."

"Actually, it celebrates the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence," Zelda corrected.

"What's an 'United States of America?' And what's a 'Declaration of Independence?'" Pit asked, Roy nodding along.

"You know who The Game Theorists is but you don't know that?" Samus asked.

"They're children, of course they don't know," Peach smiled and patted their heads. They both pouted.

"We're here!" Palutena grinned as she came in with two bags, Robin behind her with like twelve.

"I could use some help," Robin wobbly said as he walked in. Link quickly went to his aid. Once they were done putting everything away, Robin walked over to Shulk and sat next to him.

"So what's up? You heard an animal last night?"

"Yeah, but I don't know what it might've been!"

"Maybe it was a bunny running by?"

"Multiple times? I don't think so. Plus, it's not like it was on the grass, it sounded like wings flapping."

"It's probably just a bird, it'll be okay."

"Whatever you say, but if I hear it again, I'm moving over to your room!"

Peach put her hair in curlers that night. She had to make sure her hair was beautiful! It was the best part of her! Or at least the biggest. After she was done with that, she walked over to her bed and sat on it. She flinched a little when lightning illuminated her room. She laid back and rested her head on her pillow. She snuggled up to her giant teddy bear and hugged her other stuffed animals close to her.

*SQUEAK!!*

Peach shot up and looked around for the sound. She walked close to window to see it was something from outside. She noticed something slightly blocking out some of the view. Lightning struck, illuminating it. She saw wide eyes looking at her. She screeched and fell to the floor in absolute horror. She backed away quickly and leaned up against her bed.

"WHAT HAPPENED?!" Marth yelled as he and the others stormed into her room.

"There-there was something in on the w-window!" Peach stuttered, pointing to the window. Shulk turned on the lights and walked over to the window, inspecting it closely.

"There's nothing there," he said.

"What? But I am sure I saw something! And I heard it as well," Peach said as she walked over to the window. But there really was nothing there.

"Did it sound like an animal?"

"Yeah, and it had the shape of an oval."

"Hm, so maybe there is something."

"I told you Robin! But no, just forget about it! It's just some stupid bird!"

"Okay, I was wrong I get it. Now what could it be?"

"You said it had the shape of an oval?" Zelda asked, Peach nodded. "Could you describe it some more?"

"Well, it had the shape of an oval, pretty sure it had feathers, but they were wet. It had wide round eyes, but they were completely black. Oh and it sounded like a mouse almost. Well, more like squeaking. And it was really big!"

"Sounded like squeaks,huh?"

"Could've just been a mouse," Marth said.

"Did you pay attention to what she said? It has feathers Marth! Have you ever seen a mouse with feathers?" Samus said sarcastically.

"We'll discus about this tomorrow, I think I have an idea," Zelda said. "Now good night."

Morning came, and everyone woke up early so they could figure out their little situation. Breakfast was served, and everyone quickly ate it. Then they all went to the sunroom and took a seat. Peach gave them each a cup of tea and some cookies.

"Aight, now what do we think it is?" Shulk asked.

"Well obviously it's an animal," Palutena said.

"No duh, but what's an animal that's large and oval shaped, has dark eyes and squeaks?" Samus said. "Correction, a bird."

"Is there a list of birds?" Pit asked.

"For this area? Not that I know," Robin said.

"I saw a hawk when I first came here," Link said.

"Maybe it's that?" Robin said.

"But hawks don't squeak," Peach said. "And they don't big, round, black eyes."

"They can!" Lucina said.

"No, you can see their pupils, which you didn't see did you Peach?" Robin said, Peach shook her head.

"It was dark! She might've not seen them," Roy argued.

"An owl." Everyone looked at Zelda. "I propose it's an owl. They pretty much have the shape of an oval, they big round eyes and some of them have black eyes. It probably saw some mouse and decided to catch it, which would explain the squeaking. It might've been looking for refuge from the rain as well."

"Huh, you really backed-up your argument there," Palutena chuckled. "Bet you were good at writing essays in school." Zelda shrugged and took a sip of her tea.

"That makes sense though! It's a bird, it's big, and can catch mouses! Case solved," Roy smirked.

"Mice," Marth corrected.

"So what do we do about it?" Lucina asked.

"We catch it," Ike proposed. "Then we let it go."

"But what if it comes back?"

"Ok true, we go somewhere else then and let free there."

"But this is it's habitat, we can't just take it somewhere else!"

"Well then what do you wanna do?!"

"How about we keep it?" Lucina suggested.

"We can't just keep it! It's a wild animal," Ike said.

"It'll be fine!"

"Luci, I don't think it's a good idea-"

"Don't worry Robin, it's fine, " Lucina  smiled. "Link, you're from a place full of trees, you can catch an owl can't you?"

"I can catch a hawk, so I'm sure I can catch an owl," Link said. "I just need some owl grass and my gauntlets."

"Owl grass?"

"Yeah, I catch hawks with hawk grass, so I need owl grass to catch the owl."

"Link, there is no such thing as owl grass."

"Oh, well does someone know how to call owls? Or better said the noises they make?"

"We can look it up on the Tubes," Roy suggested.

"That's the first smart thing you've ever said," Marth said.

"Hey!"

"So when should we do it?"

"Tonight, since owls are nocturnal."

***

Link put on his gauntlet and walked out to the backyard. He raised his arm a little so the owl could land on it. He took a deep breath, and looked out into the trees. He could merely see anything, it was really dark that night. He turned around and nodded his head to Roy. He nodded back and played a video of owl sounds. Marth quickly took out a knife

"Marth we're not gonna kill it," Peach whispered. "And why do always have a knife? It's creepy."

"Just in case it starts attacking," Marth said.

"We're not even sure if it's gonna work," Samus said. "So just put it awa-"

"I got it!" Link called out, an owl sitting proudly on his arm. It was white with dark gray stripes and black eyes. The rest came out of the sunroom and surrounded Link.

"An Ural owl, normally found in Europe and northern Asia," Zelda said. She put her hand one its back and gently massaged it.

"It's so pretty!" Lucina said. "What does it eat?"

"Mice is probably their most common pray," Robin said.

"Wait I don't wanna kill a mouse!" Lucina said.

"That's what they eat, and you wanna keep it, so it's either that or you let it go," Ike shrugged.

"I'm googling it," She took out her phone and googled 'owl food'. "Ah-hah! They eat insects, spiders, snails, earthworms and other things! I can easily take care of it."

"Lucina, we can't just keep an owl," Shulk said.

"We can and we are! And I promise to take care of it," Lucina smiled.

"I have always wanted to study owls, so this is a great opportunity," Zelda said as she gently stroked the owl. "I'll help take care of it as well."

"And it's so cute! Let us keep it, please," Palutena and Peach begged.

"Owls are some pretty badass creatures, they have great hearing and sight, and look at its talons! Now those things are useful," Samus said. "Why not keep it?" All the girls just had to beg to them. The guys couldn't say no to them! That would be unfair to them.

"Alright, alright, we can keep the owl," Marth said, face palming.

"Yay! Thanks Marth," Peach smiled and hugged him. He blushed a little and hugged her back.

"Okay, just promise to take care of him," Link said.

"Don't worry, we will," Zelda said. "Now back in everybody, it's late, and this owl is gonna stay up all night."
