A Dance of Love

Once the halls of the castle started to get packed, the girls quickly ran to join the crowd. They stayed in a group, but made sure to blend in with everyone else.

"So ladies, how do we feel?" Peach asked.

"Pretty sure I'm not supposed to feel like a bride, or look like one," Zelda said.

"Well, you are gonna marry Link soon," Palutena smirked.

"Uh-huh, whatever you say," Zelda said.

"Well I'm kinda nervous," Lucina said.

"Why?" Palutena asked.

"I'm not exactly the best dancer," Lucina frowned.

"You'll be fine! Don't pay attention to the other people, focus on yourself and your partner," Samus encouraged.

"Thanks, I guess," Lucina smiled. "I also feel like Cinderella from the live-action movie with this dress, it moves a lot."

"Me too, I like it though," Zelda said.

"Oh! There's the entrance to the ballroom!" Palutena said, pointing ahead of them.

"Oh! Let's go then!" Peach gasped. They quickened their pace, trying not the shove past the people. When they entered the ballroom, they couldn't help but let a gasp escape their mouths.

It was decorated with yellow and orange ribbons, and grand chandeliers illuminating the room. Summer flowers decorated the walls, and the room itself was a large rectangle shape, giving everyone enough space to dance. Currently, there was music playing and a few people dancing.

"Whoa! It's so pretty!" Peach gasped.

"Quite the decoration, the room smells very nice," Zelda smiled slightly, enjoying the fresh smell of the flowers.

"Should we try and find the boys?" Samus asked, quickly changing the subject before it turned into a whole review.

"No no! They have to find us," Peach smirked. "Then ask us to dance and we can have a wonderful night!"

"Okay, what should we do then?" Palutena asked.

"Food?" Samus suggested.

"Yes! I am hungry," Lucina said.

"C'mon we just got here and you want to eat already?" Peach asked.

"Chill, we're just gonna have some light snacks so we don't get hungry on the dance floor," Palutena explained.

"Fine, I guess, let's go," Peach sighed. They walked to a large table at the end of the ballroom, which was next to smaller sets of tables with a few people sitting in them. Food was laid out on it with small decorations on it.

Zelda took a cheese cube and popped it in her mouth. She was about to grab another one when she felt a tap on her shoulder. A tall man was standing behind her, he had long brown hair tied in a small ponytail, tan skin and striking green eyes. He gave a sly smile and held is arm out to her.

"Would you grant me this dance?" he asked. Zelda looked at his hand, then back at him.

"Um, of co-" She was about to take his hand when she was yanked away, leaving him hanging. He looked back at her then shrugged and walked away.

"What are you doing?" Palutena hissed at her.

"I was gonna dance with him, is that a problem?" Zelda asked.

"Of course there is! You're supposed to dance with Link!" Palutena said.

"What if he doesn't even want to dance with me?" Zelda said, crossing her arms. Then her eyes widen and she blushed a little. "Not like I care anyway."

"Uh-huh, just dance with Link okay? If you don't like it, you can dance with someone else," Palutena begged.

"Fine, if it'll shut you up," Zelda groaned.

Palutena giggled and clapped her hands together. "You know, I wonder where they are? They should've found us by now."

"Maybe they don't want to find us."

"You can be such a pessimist sometimes."

"Thanks."

"Come on, we have to find them! The ball started fifteen minutes ago," Marth said.

"Well if there weren't so many people, maybe it would be easier," Link hissed.

"Hold on I think I see some green hair!" Pit said. "Bet ten dollars that's Lady Palutena."

"What the heck is a dollar?" Roy asked.

"Well let's go! Maybe it is them," Ike said. They started running over to the food table when a group of girls suddenly stopped them in their tracks. One with a green dress got uncomfortably close to Link, and gave him a sly smile.

"How would you feel dancing with me, hunk?" She asked, a hint of seduction in her voice. Link looked at her, then at the rest of the guys. Robin shook his head quickly, Marth waved his hand over his neck, Ike lowered his gaze in disapproval, Pit and Shulk sneered, and Roy, Roy was being Roy.

"Um, sorry, I actually want to dance with someone else, no offense," Link half lied. He mostly just wanted to back away from her, but he did have plans on dancing with someone else.

"I'm sure she can wait," the woman said. Link groaned and rolled his eyes. Did she not get the clue that he wasn't interested? He really didn't want to dance with her, but he didn't know how to get away from her. Then and idea popped into his head.

"Whoever said they were a she?" Link smirked. The woman gasped and backed away from him, a face of disgust on her.

"Ugh, you disgusting creature, let's go ladies," she said and lead her group of friends far away from them. Link sighed in relief and wiped some sweat from his forehead.

"Nice one," Ike said and fist bumped him. "And she's really homophobic, how rude. Gay people are awesome."

"Yeah, that woman was insane, well come on, let's go before we lose them again!" Marth said and lead them to the table.

***

"Where are they?" Lucina asked.

"At this point even I think we should just go look for them," Peach said as she popped a piece of chocolate in her mouth.

"They'll get here, they know us too well to not look at the food table first," Palutena said.

"LADY PALUTENA!"

"See? I told ya," Palutena smiled. The group of guys quickly reached them, panting a little and staring at them. They were mesmerized by how beautiful they looked. Robin blushed when he saw Lucina in her puffy dress, it just made her look cuter.

"I-I like your dress, Lucina," Robin complimented.

"O-oh! T-thank you," Lucina stuttered, her face heating up.

"You look quite stunning tonight," Marth said and kissed Peach's hand.

"Why thank you," Peach smiled.

"Lady Palutena, do you wanna go dance?" Pit asked, an innocent smile plastered on his face.

"Of course, Pit, I like your mask by the way," Palutena giggled and took his hand as he lead her to the dance floor. She turned her head and gave the girls a wink. "Good luck ladies!"

"Oh my god," Samus face palmed. She lowered her hand and Ike was standing in front of her, looking rather ravishing in his navy tux. He put his hand out to her and gave her a small smirk.

"Would like to dance, beautiful?" He asked. Samus looked at him with her eyes wide. She felt her cheeks heat up and she looked down at her hand. She chuckled a little and took his hand, letting him lead her to the dance floor. At that point, it was full with people and big dresses.

"Aw, cute!" Peach squealed. She looked at Marth and took his hand and dragged him to there. "Let's dance, Marth!" Marth looked at her, shocked that she made the first move, but his expression softened, so he nodded.

"Were just gonna eat and see if anyone wants to dance," Roy said. "Cause you know, forever alone and shit, see ya." He and Shulk walked away to the chicken, grabbing a drink in the process. And then there were four.

Robin took a deep breath, and looked at Lucina. She was smiling, looking at her other friends dance. His whole face heated up and he took an even deeper breath, building up the courage. He took one more breath and turned to her.

"Lucina, do want to dance?" He asked, extending a hand to her. Lucina tensed up a little, and her cheeks started to turn a slight pink. She turned to him and smiled.

"You know I'm not good at dancing."

"It doesn't matter, I'll lead, just look at me okay?" He said, his face getting redder when he realized what he had just said. Lucina took a deep breath and nodded, so they walked to dance.

"So that leaves us, huh," Link said. Zelda nodded.

"You want to go sit down?" She asked.

"Actually," Link turned to her and gently took her hand. Zelda looked up at him, her eyes slightly wide. "I was wondering, would you grant me this dance, Princess?"  He bowed and softly kissed her hand. Zelda felt her heartbeat quicken and her face heat up a little. However, she ignored it and smiled.

"Of course," Zelda said. Link stood up straight and gave her a smile.

They walked together to the dance floor, stopping at the middle. They turned to look at each other smiles still on their faces. Link slowly put his hand on her bare back, still looking into her eyes. Zelda stood up straighter when he fully put his hand on her back. People had put their hands on her back before, but for some reason, it felt different with Link. Link gave a small nod and started to spin her around, with his other hand on his back. Then he took her hand and raised it, intertwining their fingers in the process.

Whenever he spun her, her dress would hit his legs, and it felt strangely satisfying to him. He let go of her hand held it out to her. She took it and he twirled her around in place. Then she stood in front of him, his left hand on her waist and his right holding her right hand. She put her left hand on his as he spun around.

No one else was there.

It was just the two of them.

At least, it felt like that.

He turned her to face him, and but his hand back on her waist while she put her hand on his shoulder. Their other hands were holding each other. Zelda giggled ever so slightly as he spun her around more. They didn't know that their friends here watching them.

"I've never seen Zelda so happy," Peach said, still dancing with Marth.

"I've never seen either of them so happy," Marth said.

"Look at them! They're so in love," Palutena said, who was dancing with Pit near them.

"Oh they'll get together soon, I just know it," Peach giggled as Marth twirled her around.

Zelda looked at Link, getting lost in his electric blue eyes. What is this feeling? And... why do I kinda like it?  She thought. He let go of her waist and twirled her to the side, then to the other. Then he let go of both of her hands and they both did a quick spin, before returning to each other. Link stared into her eyes, getting lost in them too.

The music began to get louder, so Link let her go and she did a little spin before going back to him. Then he tipped her slightly, still staring into her eyes. They stayed there, the music calming down a little. Then when the music got louder again, he tightened his grip on her waist and lifted her up, spinning her around in her air with one hand. Zelda laughed and put her hands on his shoulders as he spun her. Link grinned and held on to her tighter with the hand that was holding her, and left his other arm on his side. He slowly lowered her back to the floor and took her hand again, dancing slower this time.

The music slowed down, getting quieter, so he tipped her one more time just as the song ended. They stayed like that, staring into each others eyes as everyone else clapped at the musicians. After a bit, Link lifted her back up and let go of her. Zelda gave a small curtesy and Link bowed. Another song started playing, and everyone around them started dancing again. They looked around them, seeing if there was a way to go back, but there wasn't. They looked back at each other and smiled. Link put his hand out to her and gave her a wide grin.

"Would you grant me this dance again, Princess?"

For once, Zelda felt true happiness. And, something else she didn't know, but she was sure she would find out soon.

"Of course, only with you, Hero."
