Chapter Two

Thomas's alarm clock awoke him the next morning at 6:15 and he felt quite drowsy. It took him ages to fall asleep last night because he couldn't shake Newt out of his mind. Thomas knew there was something special about him, but he couldn't figure out what it could be. Sighing, he got dressed and ran downstairs to prepare a bowl of cereal and as he carried his bowl over to the table, a small piece of note paper on the side of the fridge came to his attention. As he moved a little closer, he saw that it was a note scribbled in his mother's handwriting.

Thomas,

I went to work early today, but I hope you have a wonderful day at school! Your father left late last night to go on a business trip, so just make sure you arrive at your bus stop on time for once!

Love,

    Mom

P.S- Don't you dare skip school again, you know very well that the school emails me whenever you are absent!

Thomas rolled his eyes as he read the note, but he still felt grateful that his mom was looking out for him. Skipping school was always fun but it didn't sound as appealing as usual since there was always the possibility of meeting Newt at school, even though he was only supposed to tutor Thomas every Tuesday and Thursday, but today was Wednesday so he would have to wait another day for that.

As soon as he was ready for school, Thomas sprinted over to his bus stop, but he was too late. The yellow school bus was just disappearing along the nearest street, squealing as it went.

"Fuck," the brunette cursed. He would have to jog to school today, which you wouldn't think he would mind, except the fact that his high school was two miles away.

After seemingly nonstop jogging, Thomas finally reached his destination and was relieved to see students still filing into the main entrance of the school. He could make out Minho chatting enthusiastically to his girlfriend Brenda, and quickly hurried up the steps to meet them.

"Hey Thomas, how's your boyfriend doing?" Minho demanded, once he saw his friend panting and running up the steps.

"Min! He is not my boyfriend, he's just tutoring me in math ya big shuckface!"

Minho cackled. "If you say so, but just remember that I've got eyes like a hawk, and I'm the one to turn to for romantic assistance."

"Who is this guy that you fancy, anyway?" Brenda asked curiously. "I know most of the guys at this school and I could definitely tell you if he's into guys, considering I know him."

Before Thomas could answer, a warm hand landed softly on his shoulder and he jumped up in shock as a breathy voice next to his ear said, "Hey Tommy, did you do the homework that you were assigned last night?" Speaking of the devil...

Thomas felt a shiver down his spine, but not because it was chilly. "Yeah, as a matter of fact I did...Why? I thought you weren't going to tutor me on Wednesdays."

Newt smirked. "Well, as a matter of fact your math teacher, Ms.Paige asked me to grade your homework for you after each of our lessons, so I just want to go ahead and grade it now. You know what they say, "There's no time like the present"."

"Oh yeah, I've heard that quote before," Thomas mumbled. "Lemme just open my book bag for you..." After emptying out most of his binder, the brunette finally found what he'd been looking for. He quickly held his homework out to Newt, painfully aware of Minho staring him down, not quite unlike a hawk.

"Thanks Tommy, see ya later." And with that Newt left with Thomas gazing after him, very much like he did the day before.

Minho coughed and snapped his fingers in front of Thomas's face. "Well, I can see that you're practically drooling over him Thomas, even a slinthead could figure that out." Thomas ignored his friend's statement and was about to ask Brenda if she knew Newt when the school bell rudely interrupted him.

"Sorry guys, I'm going to go to my first class, I'll talk to both of you later at lunch," Brenda declared. "Oh and Thomas, Newt is actually in the same year as me, and he is in most of my classes, so I'll tell you all I know about him at lunch, ok?"

 "Ok, thanks so much Brenda!"

 "Don't mention it."

                                                                                    🐯🐯🐯

A few hours later, lunch finally came, but it took a dreadfully long amount of time for Thomas, who had trouble paying attention in science, english, geography, and even gym, his best subject. There were multiple times when he was about to fall asleep, and the thought of Newt didn't help much in his academics either.

"Hey Thomas!" The voice of Brenda calling his name made the brunette shake his thoughts away and he strode over to the far left corner of the cafeteria, where Minho was sitting with Brenda, who was waving him over.

"What's up guys?" Thomas said as he sunk his front teeth into a rather large apple.

"Not much, but I have to admit that Mrs. Shaw is one of my least favorite teachers at the moment. I forgot to hand in my English essay at the beginning of class and she thought that turning it in at the end of class was cheating!" Brenda continued complaining about her English teacher but Thomas wasn't listening, he saw a familiar figure walking nearby, carrying a lunch tray.

Newt was striding purposely across the cafeteria and his eyes met briefly with Thomas's, who had been observing him walk by. The blonde beamed at him but then continued walking to the cafeteria door, which he gently opened and disappeared from sight. Curiosity taking over him, he rose up and hurried over to where Newt had walked just a moment before. He heard Minho yelling his name, but he disregarded him. He wanted to talk to Newt alone, so Minho better keep his nose out of his own business for once.

Newt was not too far away and it didn't take much time for Thomas to catch up with him. "Newt?"

Newt flinched in surprise but once he realized it was Thomas he relaxed. "You scared me Tommy, I thought you were a bloody teacher or something." The blonde blushed and gazed at the floor. "Did you want anything?"

Newt's question raised a few inappropriate thoughts in his head, because who the shuck wouldn't want Newt? He seemed like a really positive person and his voice alone could turn anyone on, not to mention his-

"Tommy?" The brunette's ears turned scarlet in a matter of seconds, Newt's voice had interrupted him from his embarrassing train of thought and he quickly tried to give him a straight answer.

"Yes, I mean no, I'm fine. I just wanted to see how you're doing and why you aren't eating in the cafeteria."

Newt grinned. "Well I often draw while I eat, and my art teacher is kind enough to let me eat in the classroom during lunch."

"Oh I didn't know that you enjoyed drawing, that's actually really cute! Do you think you can show me some of your works sometime soon?"

"Um...I guess if you really want to, I mean I'm not that brilliant at drawing, but if you are truly interested then I may show you..." It was Newt's turn to blush, and he appeared to be looking at everything around him, with the exception of Thomas.

"Of course I want to! We're friends, right?" Thomas fixed his Bambi-like eyes once again into Newt's dark brown one's and the older boy let out the most adorable chuckle that caused Thomas's heart to beat quite faster than usual.

"Of course we're friends, Tommy. Anyway, I'd love to stay and chat but I'm famished so I best be going now." Newt winked and then proceeded down the hall, and when he was about to turn the corner he glanced shyly back at Thomas, who blushed and sprinted back to the cafeteria.

"What was that all about? Were you guys shucking or something?" Minho teased when Thomas arrived at their lunch table, panting.

"Oh, shut up Min. I just wanted to see where he was going." Thomas blushed once again, thinking about what it would be like to shuck the pretty blonde.

"No need to be so feisty Thomas, gosh."

Brenda laughed at Minho and said, "So I assume you want to know more about him, right?"

"Of course." The brunette leaned forward curiously as Brenda continued.

"Ok so Newt is often labeled as 'the quiet one' and the only person he usually talks to is his friend Alby. He is also one of the smartest students in twelfth grade, so some people call him a nerd. I know that he likes to draw and he takes the yearbook photos, but he refuses to show most people his artwork. He's the kind of person that usually keeps to themselves."

"So you don't know if he's into guys?" Thomas said, anxiously. He really hoped that Newt was gay or bisexual, or even pansexual, like himself.

"Well...not really, no. He's kinda timid, so I don't think he would admit it if he was. But I do know that many of the girls in my class have had crushes on him at some point, but he never showed interest in any of them, even if they asked him out. I'm pretty sure that he hasn't dated anyone before."

"I think that he may like you, shank. You should've seen how he looked at you when you were looking for your homework," Minho stated.

"Oh? How was he looking at me?"

"Well he looked like he wanted to rip your pants off, actually. But he still looked really shy at the same time." Minho laughed.

Thomas's face turned redder than a tomato, and he tried to think of something other than the erotic thought that had popped into his mind.

"Not to mention the body contact. Didn't you see when Newt put his hand on Thomas's shoulder?" Brenda asked Minho.

 "Yes, yes I did."

"Ok I'm going to go ahead and go to Spanish class, sometimes you guys are way to embarrassing," Thomas announced.

As he threw away his trash he heard Minho call after him, "But you love us anyway." On his way out of the cafeteria the brunette couldn't help but smile.
