Chapter Ten

Newt's phone started ringing at 6:05 AM, but there was no need for the obnoxious noise, for he had given up on sleep a couple hours previous. He was actually rather relieved, knowing that he wasn't capable of getting any extra rest anyways. Not after what had happened last night, at least.

He grinned as he remembered the gift that he had put together for Thomas. Maybe today would be just as good as yesterday...

                                                                                         🐯🐯🐯

As the blonde headed up to the school, he saw Alby over by one of the trees, studying over a piece of paper. "Hey, Alby," he said as he walked over to his friend. "How's it going?"

The dark skinned boy jumped in surprise. "Holy crap, Newt. I didn't expect to see you this early. I thought you had perhaps already gone into the school," said Alby. "Oh and by the way, nice flower crown. I thought that you stopped wearing those ever since Gally teased you about them being too gay."

"Oh, right. I guess I'm just feeling more self-confident than usual today, you know?" stated Newt.

"Hey, Newt," shouted an all too familiar voice from behind the blonde. Thomas was jogging towards his boyfriend, smiling radiantly.

 "Oh, hi Tommy."

"Oh my gosh! That flower crown looks so perfect on you!" Thomas exclaimed. "Why haven't you worn one before?!"

Before Newt could respond, Alby cut in, "He's been bullied for wearing them, obviously."

"Yeah... But no one should be able to stop me, right?" asked Newt.

"No, they shouldn't," replied Thomas and Alby in unison.

There was a sudden moment in which the blonde noticied Alby give Thomas a sharp glare, but it wasn't just a regular glare. Newt swore that he could see a glimpse of anger in Alby's eyes for a split second, but he smiled at the brunette nevertheless. What could this possibly mean?  Newt thought. Why would anything that Tommy has done make him so shuckin' angry? He mentally laughed once he realized that he had used his boyfriend's made-up slang word. He obviously was spending a lot of time with the lovable brunette, perhaps even more than he used to with Alby. Wait, Alby?! Newt sighed once he realized why Alby was probably so angry with him. I haven't been hanging out with him lately, bloody hell...

"Newt? Are you still there, buddy?" asked Thomas.

 "Huh?"

"You zoned out for a minute there, I thought that you may have gotten bored."

"Me, bored of you?! No, I don't think so, Tommy."

Thomas's face burned red. "Well, what where you day dreaming about, anyway? If you don't mind me asking, that is."

"It's just that- Wait, hold on... Where's Alby?" the blonde was so caught up talking to Thomas, that he almost forgot about his best mate.

For some bizarre reason, the brunette almost looked ashamed. "He walked off just a couple minutes ago, mumbling about unfinished homework, or something."

"Oh no..." said the blonde. But his mind filled up with many questions, some of them making him feel very guilty. What if Alby hates me, and doesn't want to be friends with me anymore?! I love Tommy, but I didn't mean for this to happen!

"I'm so sorry, Newt. But I kinda think that it's my fault that he ran away. I don't think he likes me very much..." The brunette looked genuinely concerned, and Newt felt rather sorry for him.

"No, it's fine. It's not your fault, it's mine. I was so bloody focused on our relationship, that Alby kind of slipped from my mind, you know?"

Thomas looked down. "Yeah, I get what you mean. I think it's me who he's mad at though..."

The blonde crinkled his brow in confusion. "No, I doubt it. What make you say that?"

"Uh, nothing really..." Thomas lied. "What I mean is... I think that he likes you, Newt."

"Wha- How did you come to that conclusion?" demanded Newt, who realized that maybe his boyfriend was right after all. Alby often gave him lingering touches, comforting hugs, and always seemed to get pissed of when he was talking to other guys, especially Thomas.

"I think I've said enough. Sorry again, Newt... I would tell you more, but I promised him I wouldn't..."

 "Wait you talked to Alby?!"

"Uh, I've said too much, bye..." And with that, Thomas sprinted away towards the school, casting a hesitant glance at his boyfriend before entering the building, leaving Newt as confused as a shark without teeth.

                                                                                       🐯🐯🐯

The rest of the day seemed to tick by so slowly, and it didn't help that Newt kept glancing at his watch every few seconds. He wanted it to be 1:15 already so that he could tutor Thomas and find out more information about the discussion they had started earlier. The brunette's gift was also starting to get wrinkled, since Newt had meant to give it to him in the morning. It was only 12:13 when Newt took a seat in the back of his world history class, pulling out a book to pass the time before the bell rang.

He was so into The Fellowship of the Ring, that it took him a while to notice that someone was tapping his right shoulder.

"Hey, Newt? I just want to say that I'm sorry for leaving you back there earlier, I just don't click with Thomas very well,  I'm sorry."

"It's fine," mumbled Newt, staring at his book. He was too scared to look at his friend, considering what Thomas had told him earlier. What if Alby actually did like him? He didn't want that to ruin their friendship, but it would most definitely be bloody awkward nevertheless.

The bell finally rang, and Newt hesitantly closed his book, wishing that he could go cuddle his boyfriend. The teacher, Ms. Varner walked in looking particularly happy, which made the blonde feel uneasy. "Good afternoon, class. I hope that you had an amazing lunch and are ready to learn something new and epic today!" she stated, way too eagerly.

Some people in the class cringed, while others giggled, and Newt and Alby just gave each other the look. Ms. Varner was always very excited, and had a very high pitched voice. She drank way to much coffee, but never seemed to stop rambling on about her personal life that no one ever really cared about. In Newt's opinion, her most annoying habit was sighing dramatically after most of her sentences, which she did nearly one hundred times a day (yes, Newt counted.)

"Well this should be fun," whispered Alby.

"Yeah, totally," replied the blonde with as much sarcasm as he could muster.

                                                                                          🐯🐯🐯

One boring hour later, Newt hurried over to the eleventh grade hall, but Thomas was already running towards him.

"Oof," said Newt once his boyfriend had pulled him in a tight hug, with his binder in between them.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, did that hurt?!" asked Thomas, concerned.

"Nah, I'm fine." Newt laughed. "Let's go ahead to the library, ok? Wait before that, I have something for you..." stated the older boy as he reached into his satchel. "It's made out of marigolds and lilies, your favorites."

The blonde held out a beautiful handmade flower crown, which he had worked on earlier in the day when he couldn't fall asleep.

"Wow, this is beautiful!" exclaimed Thomas as he touched the crown very lightly, as if it would suddenly fall into a million pieces. "We're twinning!"

"That we are," said Newt cheerfully. Ok, we should really be going to the library now, Tommy."

"Ugh, fine. It's not like I'd rather skip class instead and go home with you," moped Thomas.

Newt smirked. "Well no, but maybe we can do that after..."

The brunette perked right back up. "Really?!"

"Maybe, as long as your parents agree, and my mum, of course. Just, uh... Do you think that you could tell me what Alby told you?"

Thomas's ears burned red in a matter of seconds. "Well, sure. But not here though..." he finished, looking around like someone was going to jump out at him at any second.

 "Good that."

And with that, the two boys headed off to the library, hand in hand, feeling joyous.

Author's Note:

I'm sorry this took a little longer than a week to update, but I was also writing a Newtmas oneshot over the weekend, as well as another story of mine. But I hope that this story isn't getting too boring, and I apologize if it is. I'm pretty bad at writing chapters after they start dating, because for some reason that's always been really difficult for me. Anyway, thanks for reading, and don't hesitate to comment any suggestions. ☺️
