Wu (Mei's grandmother) is 14 years old in this short story assuming that she was born in 1931. It is also assumed that Wu immigrated to Canada some time after World War II.

Japanese-occupied China

Butcher (narrating): After we took out most of the Nazi scum hiding in Caldera, we started focusing on Japanese-occupied China. I was with several members of Task Force Vanguard when we saw something that I would never forget...

Several Japanese soldiers had occupied a small village near the mountainside. They were forcing the villagers out to transport them to a labor camp. A Japanese soldier grabbed a young girl and took her to the transport truck.

Wu: Mom!

Wu's Mother: No! Stop!

Japanese Soldier #1: [in Japanese] Stay back!

As the Japanese soldier put her in the transport truck, blood then smeared on his face. A nearby soldier was shot in the head, falling on the ground. A gunshot then echoed.

Japanese Soldier #1: [in Japanese] We're under att-

One of the Japanese armored vehicles then blew up, taking out nearby soldiers.

Japanese Soldier #2: [in Japanese] Over there!

Japanese Officer #1: [in Japanese] Ready defenses! Fire!

Butcher, dropping his bazooka, signaled the rest of his Vanguard operators to advance. He picked up his M1928A1 and went ahead.

Butcher: Go! Go! Go!

Butcher and men engaged the Japanese soldiers, taking out several. As the firefight enraged, the Japanese soldier grabbed Wu's mother.

Wu: No! Mom!

Wu got out of the truck and approached the Japanese soldier. Several other villagers left the truck and fled into their homes to hide.

Wu's Mother: Wu!

Japanese Soldier #1: [in Japanese] Stay back!

Then, Wu began feeling an anger that she had never felt before. She began breathing heavily and then screamed, pink clouds bursting out. Several Japanese soldiers were knocked over while Butcher and his men watched from a distance, confused.

Butcher: What the heck?

As the pink clouds settled, Wu had transformed into a red panda. The Japanese soldier looked in shock as he pushed over Wu's mother and took aim.

Japanese Soldier #1: [in Japanese] Fire on that thing!

Wu swiped at the Japanese soldier, throwing him onto the wall. Other Japanese soldiers charged at her, ending up being swiped. As the remaining Japanese soldiers took aim, Butcher and his men came from behind.

Butcher: Hands up in the air!

Arthur Kingsley: Drop 'em!

Wade Jackson: Get down now!

The Japanese soldiers, despite knowing they could not win, raised their weapons at Butcher and his men. Butcher opened fire. Wu then turned around, seeing the SOE agent and his men.

Wade Jackson: What is that thing?!

Butcher rushed over to Wade and put his gun down.

Butcher: Stand down, soldier.

Butcher approached Wu, who began looking around her frantically, finding out what she had done. He then saw Wu's mother.

Butcher: Ma'am, are you alright? Do you speak English?

Wu's Mother: A-A little.

Butcher: Mind telling us who that is?

Wu's Mother: That's my daughter, Wu.

Butcher turned around to confront Wu.

Butcher: Wu.

Wu turned to see him coming towards her and growled.

Butcher: I'm Captain Carver Butcher, SOE. Everything's alright now. You can calm down. It's over. They won't harm you and your mother anymore.

Wu then looked at the destruction she had caused around her and started crying, reverting back into human. She then went to Butcher and gave him a hug.

Wu: [in Chinese] T-Thank you. I'm sorry.

Butcher returned the hug as Wu's mother, the villagers, and the soldiers watched on.

Butcher: You're safe now, kid.

Butcher (narrating): The girl had extraordinary powers. She turned into a red panda and took out those Japanese soldiers. I then had several soldiers stationed at her village to keep her safe for the rest of the war. As long as she's kept safe and in the dark, no harm will come to her.
