(Author's full name [can use a pseud if wanted]) prepares for lots of things when writing a new Harry Potter fanfiction. They make sure they know the characters, their histories, and their deepest secrets. They do almost endless research on key events happening in the Wizarding World during the time their books are set. They weave subplots into the main story, and choose when to deviate from the original plot.

The one thing they do not plan for, however, is what to do if they're suddenly sucked into one of their stories — not metaphorically, but literally. So, when this extremely unlikely, physics-defying thing happens, they have no clue what to do.

(Author's full name) — or (author's name) Potter, as they're now called — soon realises that their obsessive knowledge of facts about the Harry Potter series might finally be useful for something. So, they put this knowledge to good use... by telling Harry about Hogwarts just to annoy their new Aunt and Uncle. Oh, and for saving as many people as they can, of course. But when things stop going the way they were in the books, and (author's name)'s knowledge of the future is questioned, everything gets a lot more complicated.

Plot points:

• It starts off with the author irl, thinking of a new OC for a Harry Potter fanfic. Then when they've written down all the details about the OC, they're sucked into whatever it is that they were writing on (notebook, phone, etc). When they've had time to get their bearings, they realise that they've become the OC

*• The OC is Harry's twin

*• They survived on Halloween simply because they were in a different cot to Harry that was further away from the door, and Voldypants tried to kill Harry first

*• They're not the chosen one, there's no prophecy about them, etc. Other than who their brother is, they're just a perfectly normal magical kid

• I was thinking they would be in either Ravenclaw or Slytherin, certainly not Gryffindor since they want to be out of Harry's shadow (this would work especially well if the author's name comes after Harry's, alphabetically speaking)

*• The OC doesn't just tag along with the Golden Trio on their adventures (but if they do for some, it's got to be for a reason other than "they're Harry's twin", and preferably only happens if there's literally no other option)

*• Author-as-OC has all of the OC's memories, but all of their own memories as well

*• Since they have all their real-world memories, they can remember what happens in canon, and use that knowledge to manipulate the storyline and characters to make different stuff happen. Because of this, different stuff happens and everything gets messed up, since when they do something to try and stop something bad happening, something else bad tends to happen instead.

• Bc author-as-OC knows that said OC's godfather is Remus, they could go to Mrs Figg and ask if she knows how to contact Remus. Then OC could write a letter to Remus saying where they and Harry are and stuff. Bonus points if Remus shows up when the millions of letters come

Other info:

• It's probably best to start in Philosopher's Stone so that the small changes the MC does in first year can come back in a bigger way later on in the story

• They could look just like Lily, but with James' eyes (although obviously if the author is a male/enby their face can look more masculine/androgynous, and they could have shorter hair if wanted)

*• Their Godfather would be Remus
