you're under the waves now
water reflects but not from below
when you look up,
you see nothing
there is nothing but the wreckage
of your adventurous ship
you went too far, you realize

your mouth and nose are filled with air
you sputter, your lips taste of salt
you're shivering cold, why are you here?
but you have no chance to think
the boards of your ship are snapped
in half, broken beyond repair

stirring on the rocks nearby
you find out as you float towards the crag
are sirens, their voices amazing
and you go to it, because that's all you have
you cling to them, upon their scaly legs
their wondrous words because
now, look around you:
who will love you?
you are a wreck
they'll devour you
but at least you'll be worth something
a quick snack, yet something nonetheless
