What are you doing here?
“Kyo, you’re going to attend today’s game?” Riko asked as soon as Kyo arrived at Seirin High in her uniform, and bag. After Taiga and the others arrived at the school yesterday, they explained the reason of absence of Teppei and the two sisters. “What about Ame? Who’s taking care of her?”
“Ah, well…” Kyo had a funny look on her face. “I asked Kaede-ne to take care of her while I’m gone, so there’s no problem”
‘K-Kaede-san?!’ the Seirin team screamed mentally, excluding Kyo.
‘Don’t she and Ame get along with each other?!’
“Oh, Kiyoshi-senpai I have something Ame-ne wants to tell you!” Kyo approached Teppei with a smile. “What is it?” Teppei wondered as Kyo tried to copy her sister in talking. “Since Ame-ne can’t come today due to her fever, I asked her if she has a message for you for today’s game and she said…” Kyo cleared her throat. “If you lose this game, it just proves that you’re a big idiot for not winning against a team that’s not that strong. Idiot”
“E-Eh???” =^=
Kyo’s thumb up gesture wasn’t helping at all.
“That’s… really encouraging…” Teppei commented sarcastically his head a bit down. Kyo patted his head and added something. “Oh, did I mention she was smiling while saying that? I even hear her mutter: “That idiot better win””
“R-Really?!” Teppei lightened up and a happy smile grew on his face. “I feel happy”
“You’re really in love with her” Junpei said out of nowhere as Teppei twitched and gave him a sheepish smile. The four eyed remembered their first year, when he was still classmates with Teppei and Ame. He noticed the girl’s been taking his attention since then.
“W-What are you talking about Hyuga-kun? I-I’m not—”
“Don’t deny it, idiot”
Kyo giggled at her two senpais and went looked around, searching for the phantom. “Where’s Kuroko-kun?”
“I’m here”
“Eep!”
“K-Kuroko?!” Everyone in the Seirin team jumped at Tetsuya’s sudden presence. “You’re there?!” they all looked at him like he was a ghost. It’s been months since he joined the team, but still they weren’t used to him. He keeps on successfully scaring them by popping out of nowhere. Even without any intention to scare them.
“Yes. I’ve been here the whole time” Tetsuya said and glanced to his side to catch his breath.
“No you weren’t! You just got here!” Taiga pointed accusingly while the only reply he got was silence. “You’re ignoring me?!”
“That’s enough, Kagami-kun”
. . .
“Another high fever huh? Man you never been healthier whenever it rains” Kaede said as she handed Ame her medicine after letting her finish eating lunch. Ame just grumbled in response and push the capsule she put in her mouth with water. “There, now go lay your head down and rest” Kaede stood up, after placing the glass on the tray and carried it downstairs to wash the dishes.
Ame lay on her bed while thinking about today’s match. She actually remembered about it and wondered how they were doing. ‘Ghh, why am I worried about them anyway? It’s not like their win will affect me. Well, actually if they win then there’d be more work for me… which sucks…’ Ame threw the covers over her head and closed her eyes. ‘Teme fell asleep beside my bed yesterday… that idiot… -___-‘
She sat up, not able to rest and looked at the clock. ‘Their game should be starting by now…’ Her head met the floor as she tried to stand up and make her way to her closet. ‘Who am I kidding? I’m bored’
. . .
Kyo checked on her phone again after sending a text message to her sister, Kaede. She asked how was her 2nd year sister doing and couldn’t hold still without the reply. “You’ve been staring at your phone for a while, what’s wrong?” Riko noticed the uneasiness on Kyo’s face as she cringed and played with her thumbs. “Is it about Ame?”
Kyo nodded. “I texted Kaede-ne if she’s doing okay, but still hasn’t replied”
“I see. Don’t worry Kyo. I’m sure Ame’s going to be alright” Riko gave her a reassuring smile.
“I hope so…” Kyo trailed off staring down at her hands. Her phone lit up causing her to perk up and almost drop it before checking the reply. “Yokatta” she held her chest in relief. “Ame-ne’s doing fine”
“That’s good” Riko said. “Now, let’s focus on the game, shall we?”
“Hai!”
. . .
“Where’s the restroom again?” Ame looked around and found herself in a long hallway. “Man, is getting lost an effect of having fever?” she said to herself. She went straight to a long way and ended up bumping onto someone. “Ow! Itai!” her butt met the ground again, and she felt dizzy.
“Oh, gomen—Haname?”
Ame recognized the voice and looked up to see—“M-Makoto?” Makoto let out a hand for her which she accepted and stood up. “Thanks”
“What are you doing here?”
“I was looking for the restrooms”
“That’s not what I meant, idiot” Makoto popped a vein. “I mean, what are you doing here at the stadium? I thought you didn’t like basketball?”
“It’s not like I don’t like it anymore. I just don’t want come cross that sport again” Ame pointed out, crossing her arms. “Unfortunately Kyo dragged me in being a strategist of our school… again”
Makoto stifled a laugh and gave her an evil smirk. “You’re lazy as ever, Hana”
“You bastard, don’t call by that name of mine” Ame looked at him annoyed and clenched her fist. Makoto just walk pass her and made his way in the guys’ restroom that was just beside the spot where Ame and he bumped into each other. Ame saw the sign and realized it was just near her. “Oh, I found the restrooms”
. . .
Meanwhile back at the Araki residence, Kaede was watching TV, unaware that Ame had escaped her watch and went to watch the Seirin vs Josei match out of boredom. She checked her watch and stood up to get Ame’s medicine. She got a glass full of water and a capsule before going upstairs and finding out…
“AME’S GONE?!”
. . .
“I feel refreshed” Ame stepped out of the restroom after peeing, at the same with an old friend of hers. Well, they weren’t actually friends, but during their 1st year of middle school, they acknowledge each other’s intellectual skill since they always fought for top 1 in their class. Ame gave Makoto an annoyed glare, not pleased to see him again. “You again…”
“Weird, you didn’t say that earlier when you bumped onto me…”
“Just shut up” Ame walked away from him, but he chased after her, and now walked by her side. “What are you doing here anyway? And why does it have to be unfortunate that I get to see you?”
“Man, you’re cruel as always. Don’t you want to see an old friend of yours, huh, Hana?” Makoto used that name of hers that she didn’t like, annoying her more. “I just came to watch my team play against Shutoku”
“Shutoku? Hmm, Asami…” Ame remembered as they reached the court and she saw the game’s going well. “Hmm, Seirin’s in lead, that’s good”
“Seirin? You actually root for them?”
“Well, remember me complaining about Kyo forcing me to be strategist of our school?”
“Wait, you actually went to Seirin?”
“Obviously, dumbass” Ame sneered, crossing her arms. Makoto let out a smirk and looked down at the game.
“If so, then you know about what happened to them last year?”
“Uh” Ame twitched and hardened her stare at the court. “I just became their strategist this year, idiot. I never knew about their games last year, nor did I care”
“Is that so? That’s a pity then”
Ame’s POV
Stupid Makoto… -___- oh, don’t get me wrong, I just call him by his first name because I don’t like calling him by his last name. ‘Hanamiya’. There’s the word “hana” in it, and I don’t want to say my name that I don’t like. Makoto walked back to his team, leaving me alone here. I walked to the seats where I saw, an old senpai of mine. Imasushi was it? I went to the same middle school as him and Makoto, we was a 2nd year back then.
“Imasushi-senpai” I approached him. He was with a kohai of his.
“Oh, Araki, fancy seeing you here” he gave me that weird and wide smile of his. And his eyes are still closed until now. When are they going to open? “And it’s Imayoshi, not Imasushi”
I twitched an eye. “It is?”
“You’re bad in remembering names, as usual, Araki. Seriously, that name you gave me sounds like I’m saying “I’m a sushi”” Really? Imasushi…
I’m a sushi…
Pfft… he’s right…
“Well it doesn’t matter. I’ll just call you senpai…” I murmured scratching the back of my head. I sat on the seat a few meters away from them and watched the game. Kagami seems to be hot headed right now.
TIMESKIP~
Oh good they’ve won. Teme took my message seriously. I stood up and walked away, without saying goodbye to senpai since I don’t really do that. Besides, I’m in a hurry. I better go home before Kyo finds out that I watched their game. Or worse, Kaede finding out that I’m gone from the house. I hurriedly looked for the exit but seem my fever’s gone worse. I felt dizzy and I’ve been going around in circles around the area.
I bumped onto someone again and there my headache appeared. “Ow…” I held my head.
“Amei-chan?” wait, Teme? I looked up to see that it was him and he looked down at me worriedly. “Amei-chan, what are you doing out of bed? You should be resting!” he knelt down to carry me. “Now your fever’s gone high” What?? But I was feeling better throughout the game! =^=
I had small nap in his arms and woke up when I heard Kyo and Kaede’s voice. I opened my eyes to see, Teme re-joined with the Seirin team and there was Kaede looked enraged.
“Ame you idiot! Why did you sneak out?!” she shouted in rage. Teme put me down but still held my shoulders as I pulled him in front of me as a shield for the monster, Kaede. My vision became blurry and I couldn’t no longer hear what was happening and—
Author’s POV
“Ame-ne passed out!” Kyo panicked and held her sister.
“Man, what made her think that she can watch the game without her fever going high?” Kaede sighed and let Ame ride her back with the help of Kyo.
“Wait, Amei-chan watched the game?” Teppei realized.
“Most probably, yeah. She was murmuring about how you guys are doing” Kaede said and turned her back to them. “Out of boredom, she came to watch” everyone in the team was surprised. They didn’t expect Ame to watch them because the entire time, girl showed was uncaring looks during practice. As if she didn’t want to be their strategist. But her act today just proved that she cared for the team.
“Ame-ne’s starting to warm up to you guys, that’s good” Kyo smiled at the team then at Teppei. “I’m sure you’re getting closer to your goal, senpai” with that, Kyo followed Kaede as they started to walk home. “See you tomorrow at practice!” she waved goodbye and then smiled at Ame who was exhaustingly resting on Kaede’s back.
The whole team stared at the three sisters while Teppei smiled to himself.
