Kyo’s POV

“Yeah!” everyone cheered as Kuroko-kun shot the buzzer beater signaling our win against Kaijo. Ame-ne gave Kiyoshi-senpai a hug even though he’s sweaty and the other players high fived each other. I let out a sigh of relief thinking that it was the end but no. Kuroko-kun and Taiga-kun didn’t give up! They’re so cool!

“Kyo!” Taiga-kun approached me while grinning.

“Taiga-kun!” I absentmindedly gave hug as he twirled me around like a little princess. We noticed we captured the teams’ attention and he immediately let go of me as both of us blush. “C-Congratulations on your win, Taiga-kun!” I laughed awkwardly with a sheepish smile.

He looked at me and smiled before grabbing my hand. “No, it’s our win” he told me, raising our hands together. For a moment there, I saw sparks fly around his smile.

W-What am I thinking?!

I should be focusing on other stuff…

Like how am I going to tell Ame-ne about…

About Oka-san back…

I sighed and decided I’ll tell her as soon as we get home from this match. “Ame-ne!” I called her then I noticed her looking worried at the exhausted Kiyoshi-senpai. He gave it his all during the match. And she looks really concerned.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” she asked, giving him a fresh towel for his sweat.

“Yeah, I am. Don’t worry” he assured taking it from her. She took it back from him and was the one who wiped his sweat for him. They’re so sweet.

Having a boyfriend seems to be nice…

“They’re too sweet” I heard someone comment beside me. I turned to see T-T-Taiga-kun! O///o “If they continue to be like that around the team, I swear I’ll puke” I sweat drop at his comment.

“You’re just lonely because you don’t have a girlfriend” I teased, playfully smiling at him.

He frowned at me, “Tch, yeah right”

I giggled. “Taiga-kun is so bitter towards couples. Why don’t you get yourself a girlfriend?”

“Why don’t you get yourself a boyfriend?”

“Well, that’s because you’re still not getting a girlfriend”

Obviously, Taiga-kun… -__-

Wait.

What the hell did I just say?

Did. I. Really. Say. That. To. Him?!

The redness on my face raised up to the top of my head as steamed evaporated from my embarrassment. Taiga-kun was still looking at me with surprise as I look away from him shyly.

O-Oh my gosh! This is so embarrassing!

Taiga-kun must think I’m a desperate single girl craving for a boyfriend!

But I was surprised when I hear him snicker. “Well, if you want to, sure” Eh?!

I gave him an astonished look which he just smiled at and left me standing here dumbfounded.

Did he just say he wants to be my boyfriend? W-What!

“Kyo”

Eh!

“What’s wrong?”

I flinched to see Ame-ne just beside me together with Kiyoshi-senpai. They were giving me a questioning look, wondering why I was blushing.

“A-Ah, well… Kiyoshi-senpai! Is it okay if I walk home alone with Ame-ne?” I requested, clamping onto my sister’s arm. “I kinda miss her with me, and almost spend half of the day always being cuddly with each other~”

“Eh? We’re not all the time, cuddly!” Ame-ne denied blushing.

“We’re not?” Kiyoshi-senpai wondered.

I sweat dropped. “Don’t listen to her senpai. You almost got attacked by ants the other day, because of your sweetness” T_T

“That was a nice one, Kyo! I’ll be taking that!” Izuki-senpai but in, murmuring puns while writing it on his notepad. “And don’t tell Hotaru this! I must be the first person to tell her this pun!”

I-Izuki-senpai and Hotaru-ne…?

“I got it” I smiled at senpai.

“By the way, Shun. I noticed that you and Hotaru haven’t been in contact like you always do. Also during our practice at their doujo, you never once talked to her” Ame-ne mentioned, glancing at Izuki-senpai whose suddenly went down at the sound of Hotaru-ne’s name.

“Yeah, I noticed that too. During our practice at their doujo, Hotaru seems to avoid me often, and even avoids eye contact from me. I think she even changed her phone number” Izuki-senpai replied then looked at his notepad. “She doesn’t even want to hear my puns!”

“Nobody wants to hear your puns” Ame-ne pointed out.

“So mean!”

Poor senpai… I understand why Hotaru-ne’s pushing him away. She has to leave. I have to leave. Every one of us has to leave. We’re going to have to leave everyone behind.

The atmosphere grew silent as everyone head back to the locker rooms to fix their stuff. We were all surprised when we saw Kaede-ne waiting for us there.

“Kaede-ne” I called her.

“K-Kaede?! What are you doing here?!” Ame-ne wearingly stepped away from our older sister and hid behind Kiyoshi-senpai.

I looked at her. “I told you, didn’t I? We’re going to meet up with oka-san and Daizo-san today. Did you forget already?”

“Wait, Yoite’s back from Germany?” Ame-ne wondered making me flinch. Taiga-kun nodded at me reassuringly which I’m glad that he’s here for me.

Before I could reply, Kaede-ne already spoke. “You know it’s weird to hang-out with the team who just beat us, so will you hurry up Ame? We don’t have all day you know” Kaede-ne’s not herself today. I wonder what’s up.

“Tch, fine” Ame-ne huffed and let go of Kiyoshi-senpai’s jacket. “You can go home ahead, Teppei” she told him. “I’ll guess I’ll see you tomorrow” A-About that…

After observing Ame-ne, Kaede-ne whispered at my ear. “You haven’t told her yet?” I stiffened and shook my head. “I thought so”

“I don’t think she’ll take it well” I admit looking at my nervous hands.

“I think none of us would have. But we have to tell her, Kyo”

“I know that…”

“See you guys, then!” Ame-ne waved goodbye at the team. I bid my farewell to them and took one last glance at Taiga-kun who smiled at me soothingly. Oh his smile…

I wish I could see it every day.

So we three sisters headed at the station where we would meet up with Nikki-ne who is in college. While Ame-ne was busy playing games—yeah she still does play—Kaede-ne opened up a topic both of us didn’t like.

“I told Yukio” she said, as if the life was drained from her voice. “I told him before the game and he… he promised he’ll make sure we’d win before I leave. That he’ll take the team to the finals”

K-Kaede-ne…

“Apparently he didn’t fulfill that promise of his to me. So I told him… I told him don’t bother because even if they did win, I wouldn’t be by his side the time, they attended the game” she laughed bitterly. “You should’ve seen the look on his face… he looked… miserable”

I gasped when I saw the look on Kaede-ne’s face. She looked sad. Miserable. Lifeless. As she didn’t want to exist in the world. The same look Ame-ne had before.

I became scared.

What if Ame-ne becomes like that again?

Or even worse?

“Hanamin! Kae-chan! Kyo-chan!” we heard Nikki-ne’s voice call as we saw her ran towards us. “Ah, it’s so nice to be reunited like this again! How are you girls?”

“Just fine” Ame-ne replied turning off her PSP and keeping it in her pocket.

“Hmm, Hanamin finally turns off her PSP! It’s a miracle!” Nikki-ne crushed Ame-ne in her arms as the poor rain flower sister struggled in her grip. “Hanamin get friendlier and friendlier this days, it’s so nice~”

“O-Oi Nikki! Get off me!” Ame-ne whined, pushing our oldest sister away.

“That’s enough” Kaede-ne stopped them looking serious. “We should hurry up. Oka-san doesn’t want us to wait”

“Tch, that old hag’s returned after all these years” Ame spat bitterly. “Well, at least she returned” I heard her mumble. A-Ame-ne… she’s still sad about oto-san disappearing, isn’t she?

“Oh, Asami-chan, Hotaru-chan, Soko ni kon'nichiwa!” Nikki-ne cheerfully greeted at our two step-sisters that were waiting at the restaurant oka-san told us to wait. We joined at the table, our parents in absence, as we noticed the gloomy expressions on each other’s faces. Except for Ame-ne.

Apparently, she’s the only who doesn’t know.

“Why do you all look like you’ve seen someone died?” Ame-ne questioned, looking at our depressed faces.

“Shut up, Ame” Kaede-ne sneered irritated.

“Whatever” Ame-ne shrugged.

I guess this is the part where I… tell her.

“Ame-ne, can I tell you something?” I asked her.

“Huh? Sure, what is it?” she asked nonchalantly.

“I want to… Oka-san—”

“Hmm, all of you are here, huh?” a voice said as we turned to see our parents arrive. T-This is the moment of truth… “Perfect timing; let me tell you all something”

O-Oka-san…
