Be Careful
Ame’s POV
It was the day of the match against Makoto’s team. I and Coach did what we can do to train these idiots. We only stayed a few days at Hotaru’s mansion but I can see improvement on these idiots’ statuses. Especially, the first five starters. I sat next to Teme, who was unusually quiet and even flinched when I talked to him. “You’re strangely not yourself today, what’s up?” I asked not looking at him. Several seconds passed by and he still hasn’t answered my question so I glanced to look at him and found out that—“Why is your face blushing red all of a sudden?”
“Ah! Well… uh…” he stuttered scratching his neck and avoided eye contact.
T_T
“I’m just nervous…”
Tch.
“Then tell me that while looking at me straight in the eye” I demanded giving him a hard stare, which he felt awkward. Our faces were just close. “I really hate dishonest persons, Teppei” he looked taken aback by my words at first but then manage to pull himself together with a sigh.
“It’s nothing big actually… I just can’t forget about yesterday…” Yesterday? What does he mean by that? I raised an eyebrow at him and gave a questioning look.
“Yesterday?” I wondered as he flinched and shoved his face at me.
“Y-You don’t remember Amei-chan? The night you… you k-k…” if he was talking about the night he found me at the woods then—
“It happened the other day, idiot. I was sick yesterday remember?”
“Eh?!” he flinched and his cheeks burned bright red again. Man, this guy is really an honest player. Even he can’t lie to me. He ends up stuttering. “I’m sorry… it’s just that…”
“What are you sorry about, idiot? And quit thinking stuff about that, it loses your focus in a game” ah, great. He made me remember that I was an actual scaredy cat in the dark. Screw it. “J-Just because you saw me shivering out of fright i-in the d-d-dark doesn’t mean you always have to remember it! F-Forget about the other day will you?!” great, now I’m stuttering.
“Ah, sorry, Amei-chan, I’ll try to focus on the game” he smiled looking his usual self whom I know.
“Also… don’t let your guard down…” I reminded with a low tone, looking at him seriously. “You know Makoto…”
“Yeah, I will” he promised and patted me at the head.
“Good” I replied and was about to remind him about a technique Kirisaki Dai Ichi uses for their foul play when three brats came interrupting us. Way to go butting in while I talk to Teme. -__- Well, I can tell him later after they’re done taping his knee. Wait, they know about it? How…? “Kyo, did you tell them about last year?” well, there’s only one person I know who’s a big fan of Kiyoshi Teppei. Kyo turned to me and look at her fellow freshmen before nodding.
“Well, they’ll find out eventually. Plus, Hyuga-senpai already told Kagami-kun and Kuroko-kun about it” she said nonchalantly, looking away from the data sheet she’s holding.
“Eh, Hyuga-kun you told them?!” Teppei reacted negatively and gave Junpei a look. The captain just stretched his muscles with an impassive expression and nodded.
“What? You have to tell them anyway. What kind of team keeps secrets from each other?”
“Uh” Teppei cringed and then looked at the three freshmen in front of him. The three of them smiled and told him that they were done taping his knee. I looked at it and sweat dropped, seeing that his knee looked like a mummy.
Idiots.
I gave them each a smack at the head and sigh. “I know you’re concerned but at least do it properly” Sheesh. I untapped his knee, pulling every stick taped pasted on his skin and redo it normally and in an unmummyish way. “There” I slapped it lightly and stood up handing the tape back to Hiroshi (Fukuda).
“Thanks, Amei-chan” Teme stood up and ruffled my hair again.
“I just taped your knee, no need to be grateful” I muttered crossing my arms.
“Well, I just find it caring of you, that’s all” with those words, his cheeks turned rosy pink as he put his hand behind his head. T-Teme… he called me caring? I blinked not expecting it from him and thought of something to reply.
“Hey Teme—” I was cut off when we heard the buzzer; signalling that it was time for the match. Rude. Very rude, buzzer. I made an annoyed face and turn my back at him. “What were you saying, Amei-chan?” he asked me but I just waved it off. “Nothing. Don’t lose, idiot. Be careful” I whispered the last part and went to sit on the bench where I passed by Junpei. He glanced at me before running towards the court.
Teppei’s POV
I walked to the court with Hyuga-kun because the match was about to start. The referee let us greet and bow with our opponent and then proceeded with the Tip Off. I glanced at Amei-chan and wondered what she told me earlier. The part after she told me: don’t lose. I think she said something after that.
“Hey Kiyoshi, focus on the game will you?” Hyuga-kun scolded which I responded with a sorry and a sheepish smile. He sighed and gave me an irritated look. “Were you thinking about what Ame told you earlier?” Does he mean—“Yeah, don’t worry, I plan on winning” I smiled at him but he yelled at me. “That’s not it, idiot!” eh?? I was confused and looked at him curiously. He sighed at me irritated, and followed by a serious annoyed stare. “She said be careful, idiot” after he said that, my motivation suddenly boosted up.
Amei-chan really is caring.
