The Poltergeist (P2)
Hey guys! I'm back with one more chapter! It's bittersweet, in a way...
Kathy tip- toed over to her sister, who was meditating on the bed. She signaled to Sybock, gesturing at him to go under the bed. She made Uhura stand behind the victim, and ducked in front of the bed. She then gave her fellow pranksters a thumbs up.
"Let the fun begin" She mouthed, wildly gesturing at Sybock to put his head under the bed and shake it.
Sybock (being a full blooded Vulcan) used his strength to shake the bed with enthusiasm. T'Preth let out a shriek, and snapped out of her calm state.
Uhura blew on her neck and jumped under the bed, coming face to face with Sybock.
"Sorry" She mumbled with a blush as she proceeded to move her hands from his chest, only to be stopped by Sybock.
"Oh no, I think I quite like this position. It's not everyday that you get to touch a hot guy with your dainty hands, is it?"
Awkward silence.
"That came out wrong, didn't it."
T'Preth had frozen and she didn't dare to look back as she hugged her pillow n fright, squeezing her eyes shut.
Kathy took this moment to start talking.
"Excuse me miss, I need your help. I hurt myself badly, you see."
T'Preth let out a mute shout of horror as she spotted Kathy sitting in front of her. She dashed past the girl and fumbled with the door. A hand touched her shoulder.
"Miss-"
"Get away from me you hideous freak!" She yelled and darted out of her room. Sybock and Uhura came out of their hiding places and ran out of the room, following T'Preth. The girls then split up such that T'Preth would be cornered.
T'Preth leaned again a wall and sank to the floor, covering her face.
Uhura sat next to her in a similar position, softly speaking when T'Preth lifted her head.
"Why didn't you help me?"
T'Preth gasped and ran, turning to find Kathy standing in her guise, in front of her. Uhura immediately his behind a turn in the corridors.
"I said why didn't you help me!" Kathy said, her vice sounding deadly and inhuman as she got into her sister's face.
T'Preth let out a sob and ran away. Kathy made no attempt to follow.
"Come on, let's go!" Sybock said gleefully, coming out from his hiding place.
"No" Kathy said with finality.
"No?" Uhura said, confused.
"Guys she was crying. I think she's had enough. Pranks are fun and all, but not if they make the other person cry..."
Sybock shrugged and sent a wave towards Kathy and jogged away, but not before blowing a flying kiss at a blushing Uhura.
The girls cleaned up in the latter's room, and set out to search for their friends.
"You go that way, and I'll go this way" Kathy told Uhura, who nodded at her. "Comm me if you find them!" Kathy called out as she skipped away.
She heard voices, and slowed down, peeking around the corner. She saw a hysterical T'Preth and a slightly concerned Spock.
Kathy felt a mixture of guilt, relief, sadness, anger, and jealousy as she saw T'Preth engulfed in the Commander's arms.
She angrily blinked back her tears, reprimanding herself mentally. She let out a sigh and turned around, deciding to speak to her sister later.
Kathy pulled out her comm and immediately called Uhura.
"Hey, ah gotta go for the class that Sir's goin' ta teach me" She said, the southern twang evident in her voice.
Uhura knew something was wrong when she heard Kathy, but figured that she just might be feeling guilty about the prank.
The truth was, Kathy wanted to be alone. So she lied.
Spock somehow managed to convince T'Preth that it was a hallucination, and walked towards where he knew Kathy was.
"Cadet" Kathy jumped, startled, as a light bush settled on her cheek.
"Ah, yeah sir?"
"May we continue with our sessions?"
"Ah, of course, sir!"
Spock tilted his head to the side, and led her to his office. Both reached out to close the door, accidentally brushing each others' palms and finger tips, performing a Vulcan kiss.
Spock jerked his hand back as though her were burnt, and Kathy blushed brighter.
"Ah apologize, sir" Kathy whispered, fidgeting with hands. She too, was as affected by the kiss as Spock was, if not more, due to her Circian heritage half.
Spock gave her a curt nod, fearing that his voice would crack should he speak.
"So... what are we doing today?" Kathy asked as she shuffled slightly under Spock's unwavering gaze.
"Cadet are you aware of the emotional harm you caused to T'Preth?" He said.
Kathy felt her stomach knot. All this time, he only cared about her.
She is his bond- mate, genius.
Don't, remind me.
"Er... yeah, about that... I was planning on confessing-" Kathy began, only to be cut of by Spock.
"You will do no such thing, Cadet." There was a sharp edge to his voice, Kathy noted. So she decided to change the topic.
"What are we going to do now?"
"We shall practice meditation. In my quarters." Spock said, observing a now frozen Kathy.
"Cool" She responded, gathering herself quickly as Spock led her to his quarters.
"Before we meditate, I shall perform an exercise." Spock began. "T'Preth."
Kathy winced mentally.
Well shit.
After all this time hun, now you realize. Why?
Ah... Loki...
Spock cleared his throat, making Kathy snap out of it. "T'Preth shall try to elicit emotional response from you. Your objective is to not show emotion."
Kathy rolled her eyes and looked at T'Preth.
"Spock, I can't do this. I can't hurt my sister." T'Preth faked, letting out a frustrated sigh. Kathy let out a laugh.
"No one said anything about hurting me, sister dear, only about making me show emotion."
She watched, thoroughly amused, as T'Preth looked lost for a moment, before shaking her head and walking out.
"Well, that went well" Kathy said with a smirk. Spock resisted the urge to roll his eyes.
Spock got his PADD out and tapped something. Immediately, a scene from Thor turned up. Kathy gaped at him, before scooting closer to Spock, leaning her back against the bed like him. Ignoring the cold floor, and the minuscule distance between her and the Commander, Kathy peered into the PADD, watching the scene.
"No, Loki" Odin said. Loki had an expression of pure heartbreak on his face as Thor realized what his brother was about to do.
"Loki NO!" He shouted, just as Loki let go of the Gungnir, and fell into the abyss as tears shone in his emerald eyes.
Spock heard sniffling as he turned to look at Kathy, whose head was bent and shoulders were slumped.
Their sides were touching, and the Cadet's hair was tickling his neck and part of his ears. He, much to his own horror, took a whiff of Kathy's hair, breathing in the chocolaty fragrance.
"Katherina..." He whispered softly, making Kathy suck a breath and look at him through her eyelashes, which were slightly damp from the un- shed tears.
"I'm sorry, I'm being silly. It's just that this scene always gets to me."
Cadet Uhura had been right. Kathy was quite an emotional and passionate person. This was now getting more difficult than Spock had originally thought.
"This is why your mo- your biological mother insisted upon teaching you the Vulcan way." Spock said, correcting himself immediately. His eye brows shot up when Kathy looked at him with a fierce expression.
"Oh, so this is what all this is about?! Is my dear mother only concerned about what society thinks about her, and not her supposed daughter's happiness?!"
Spock was silent, a bit startled by her out burst. Kathy let out a humorless laugh, and stood up, misinterpreting her professor's silence. Spock stood up along with her, being the gentleman he was.
"So that's how it is, I see. Thank you for your services or favors or whatever, Professor, but I think that these classes have come to an end. Good day."
And then, Kathy walked- scratch that, stormed out of the room, almost bumping into her sister, who sneered at her.
"What's up with her?" T'Preth asked Spock, who was standing by the door. Spock said something Kathy didn't quite hear, before she saw them hug and kiss as she turned.
Kathy walked away, her heart breaking becoming heavier with every step she took. And then, Kathy wowed to herself, to never fall for anyone. Especially not a cold, heartless Vulcan.
And somewhere at the back of her mind, a tiny voice made a sound of protest. Little did Kathy know, that this was just the beginning; a promo of sorts; of what was to happen in the future.
School starts tomorrow! It's a bitter sweet feeling, 'cause it's my last year in this school... so yeah... Can't wait to meet my friends after the 2 month summer vacation though!
Anyhow, thanks for reading!
All the love,
Kit_Kat
