The Child in All of Us

Well people, here's another chapter. Enjoy! Thanks for the comments, I expect more though!! :D

"Oh Spock, you should be more sensitive!" Amanda said with a sigh, her heart pained at the poor girl's plight.

"I am well aware of it, mother" Spock said icily. "You know that as a Vulcan, I experience a difficulty in comprehending human emotion." Amanda let out another sigh as she gently touched Spock's shoulder, sensing her son's inner turmoil. Spock didn't say a word, making his mother sigh again.

"I will talk to her" She mumbled quietly and left her son to his own thoughts.

Amanda soon found Kathy, who was sitting on a bench in the field. Amanda walked up to Kathy, trying not to startle her.

"May I sit here?" "By all means" Kathy replied. After a moment of silence, Amanda spoke again.

"It will snow today." "Indeed" Kathy replied shortly. Amanda put her hand on the cadet's shoulder, and said, "You have a lovely smile, my dear."

"To bad no one will see it" Kathy commented dryly.

"Spock feels bad, you know. He didn't mean what he said." Amanda began. "By being this way, you are doing what your biological mom wants you to do. Your family and friends will be devastated at this behavior of yours. You are a wonderful person, my dear. Always remember that."

"Really?" Kathy asked innocently. "Of course sweetheart" Amanda said with a charming smile. "Now, if my son ever troubles you, remember, I'm just a call away."

Kathy let out a small, childlike giggle that made Amanda smile more. "See, you look so pretty when you smile!" Amanda gushed, making Kathy stutter and blush. "Go now", Amanda said, shooing the cadet away. "Let your friends know you're alive!"

"Yes ma'am!" Kathy shouted out, mock saluting the wise woman before skipping away. Amanda smiled to herself sadly. Oh how she wished that her son had bonded with a merry soul like her...

Kathy ran down the halls, letting out a giggle now and then. As she took a turn around the corner, she bumped into Bones. "Kit kat?"Bones said disbelievingly, making Kathy giggle. "Leeeoooooooo!!!!" Kathy squealed, letting out a giggle and flinging her arms around the older man's neck. She clung to him like a koala, letting out another giggle. "Can I have a piggy back ride?" Bones seemed stunned for a moment, before grinning, happy that his friend was normal. "Like you need to ask."

"It's going to snow" Kathy said cheekily, as Bones walked down the halls. "Maybe we could prank Jim!"

Bones smirked, cocking his head to the side. "I'm listening..." By the time they reached the rooms, Bones was exhausted, and it was snowing heavily.

"I'm gonna sleep" Kathy mumbled, collapsing onto Bones' bed. Bones shrugged and kicked of his shoes, before climbing in. "Me to." He said, as the two cuddled up and fell asleep. And that is how Jim found the two.

Jim, being Jim, immediately misunderstood the situation. After a few well earned slaps from Kathy and murderous glares from Bones, Jim shut up.

"Let's get some food" Bones muttered, walking out of the room. "Yeah, lets get some" Jim agreed. "That's what she said" Kathy said mischievously, wiggling her eyebrows and nudging Jim. Jim promptly burst into laughter, whereas Mcoy gaped in horror. "Not another Jim... James you arse!" "Yeah Jim, you've corrupted me!" Kathy mock wailed. "Oh wait, that's what she said!" "Oh lord..." Mcoy muttered, rubbing his forehead. "I'm doomed."

Jim and Kathy looked at each other gravely. "The future is dark." They said at the same time, before cackling like fools. The trio reached the dining hall, talking and laughing. Well, Jim and Kathy were doing that.

Kathy froze halfway through the meal, before shooting out of her seat. "I gotta leave." "Why?" Jim asked, making Kathy look at him with irritation.

"I have... Problems"

"What problems?"

"Iamonmyperiod"

Bones, who was coffee immediately chocked on his drink and spat it out comically. Jim sat with a deer caught in headlights expression as Kathy walked away, discreetly giving Bones a thumbs up sign and a wink, making the doctor snort into his drink.

After around 10 minutes, the young cadet managed to sneak into the science lab, which was deserted. Sort of. The problem was that the Commander and his mother were in the lab. Kathy attempted to sneak past them. She was seemingly succeeding when she hit her foot on a bench. "Owweee" She muttered, before freezing. The sound echoed through the lab, making the Commander turn towards her. "Who is there?"

"Well shit" Kathy grumbled trying not to calm her racing heart. She peeked around the table behind which she had hidden, seeing the Vulcan look in her direction with a raised brow. She immediately ducked back, biting her lip.

Oh my gosh, oh my shitting Zeus, I'm screwed, I'm dead I'm so bloody screwed!!!

Stop over reacting.

Shut up.

Kathy let out a frustrated sigh, massaging her temples in an attempt to quit her inner monologue.

Everywhere I go this bloody professor turns up. She thought to herself.

I know you like it... !!! Her inner voice of supposed reason sang.

Shut up.

"Cadet" Spock's voice rang out clearly. Kathy squeezed her eyes shut.

It's now or never, do or die.

This is going to be interesting...

SHUT UP!!!

Kathy winced at the screech, before getting up with a sheepish expression. "Yes sir?" Kathy noticed his mother's eyes twinkle with amusement, as Spock began. "Do you require anything, Cadet?"

"Ummmm... hehehehe... no?" Kathy said with a fake giggle as she tugged at the shirt of her uniform nervously.

"May I inquire why you are here? Are you not aware that the laboratory is closed?" Spock said with barely detectable sarcasm.

"Oh, yeah, 'bout that..." Kathy began, looking around desperately. Her eyes widened upon seeing a bundle of papers in the side, with her name on it.

Oh my god, bless your forgetfulness woman!!!

"... I forgot my notes here, and needed to collect them. They are quit important, you see."

Spock merely nodded at her explanation, deeming it logical, before whirling around, escorting his mother out of the lab. The said woman turned and winked at Kathy just as the doors whooshed shut.

Kathy quickly grabbed her notes and the required chemical, smirking to herself as she exited.

"This is going to be fun..."

Meanwhile, mother and son continued the tour of the academy. Amanda was still grinning, wondering what the Cadet was up to. "May I make a personal query?" Spock asked, a hint of curiosity in his tone. Amanda tilted her head, gesturing at him to 'ask away'.

"Is there a specific reason for the glint of mirth in your eyes?"

Amanda chuckled slightly, answering her son. "It's the Cadet-"

"What has she done mother, has she offended you in any form?" Spock immediately asked stiffly.

"Oh Spock, my sweet son, she hasn't done anything!" Amanda replied with a chuckle, as always, touched by her son's protective nature.

"She is quite funny" She added, eyeing Spock's expression. The corner of his lips turned up in a Vulcan version of a smile, as he replied, "Cadet Whitlock is intelligent, she has potential. She may be... 'childish', at times" Spock said, pausing for the correct word. "It is fascinating. I do not find the logic in it, mother." Spock tilted his head, asking a question in a non verbal fashion.

Amanda chuckled again. "It is a quality that I appreciate, dear. One must remember to never loose their innocence, no matter what. Honestly, we all are children on the inside, we just don't realize it!"

Spock still looked confused (well, as confused as a Vulcan can look), not understanding.

"Oh Spock, it's a human concept. It is very illogical, I doubt you will understand" Amanda said with a smile, walking ahead, leaving behind a confused Spock.

Sorry for not updating guys!
