Logan: Beach party

"There we go again" Jackson said while smirking. I laughed and rolled my eyes. Nothing new here.

We were again sitting near the main pool, our sunglasses on, laughing at everyone passing by. The beach party had started half an hour ago. It was even better that the previous year's. The beach was full of people. Playing volley, swimming or sunbathing. Children running round.

The water was calm and had a beautiful color.

Poly was playing volley at the court with some other girls near the sea. She had always had a thing for sports. And she was good. I could see her from where I was sitting.

The beach area started some meters from the pool. Trees and plants separating them. The view from were I was was spectacular. Like always.

The sun was shining, the sky clear and a light blue. There were many people walking around, drinking and dancing. The music was too loud for my ears, as always. Pop music was a trend, even in Thailand.

Jackson was laughing like crazy the last hour, me just smirking beside him. We found ourselves really happy, just from observing Lee's moves.

From the moment we had arrived, Lee was already staring at a read-heated girl on a blue bikini near the pool. After that, he approached her, and started talking to her about a God know what.

We were watching him, holding our laugh. He tried to flirt with her and failed miserably. He was now trying to talk to the girl next to her. They both seemed confused. I could imagine why.

"Some things dont change Jack" I smiled as the girls turned around at once, a disgusted look on their face, and walked away.

I wonder what he said to them.

Lee made a grimace and looked at us. We started clapping our hands while grinning. He narrowed his eyes and showed us his middle finger.

"Wanna go for swimming or something" Jackson suggested. But we both knew I couldn't leave my spot. The beach was a chaos.  And the pool was full. I didn't like people that much.

Especialy the drunk and crazy ones.

"Nah, I prefer staying here. Thanks" I said quickly and looked around the pool. Everyone was at the beach. I counted only three couples, some children and the two girls who were now leaving. Good job Lee.

Another reason I didn't want to leave the pool, was that one of the couples were Connor and his sister. I least I hoped she was his sister.

They looked alike. Both tanned with freckles and black, messy hair.  The girl looked older that Connor. Possibly around our age, maybe 18. She was wearing a short white dress and a hat. Her face was really pretty.

My eyes drifted back to Connor. I didn't want him to leave that early. Especially the same day. And not only because I would loose the stupid bet. I possibly hurt him when I told him about the bet some hours before. I didn't mean it though . I only wanted to explain why I had been so annoying. The fact that I liked him hadn't change.

We locked eyes. He had a blank expression, except from a slight frowning. His sister was talking to him, but he clearly wasn't paying any attention to her. She then turned to face the girl to her, a dark-skinned girl with frizzy hair.

I suddenly had the need to talk to him. Apologize and everything. I looked into his eyes and nodded my head towards the hotel's direction. He raised his eyebrows and turned to his sister, totally ignoring me.

I signed out in frustration. Of course he wouldn't want to talk to me. I dropped my gaze and then looked around the pool once more. Lee hadn't got back. He was now at the bar, having his back to us. He was drinking and talking to Jasper, who was making some drinks. He had a tired look on his face, probably wishing Lee to stop distracting him and just go away. I smiled.

I realized Lee and I were stuck at the same kind of situation. Being in love with a sassy person was hard. Neither of us had any luck, even though we were both handsome. At least I hope we are, I thought.

I had zoned out completely when I fell a hand on my shoulder.  I turned around to see Jackson looking at me with a strange look on his face.

"What's wrong buddy? You have a really funny look on your face" He said and laughed. I smiled back. I must had been frowning the whole time.

"Yeah, I was thinking" I said quickly.

"Now that's dangerous" He laughed and took a sip from his drink. He then looked at me. "Everything okay? You seem too serious" He put on a worried face.

I just shook my head "I'm fine, just a bit dizzy" I lied and looked up at the sky. Some clouds had gathered.

"Whatever you say" Before I could say anything, he got up. He put on a black T-shirt and gestured me to do the same. I just eyed him strangely.

"Oh, come on! Let's go for a walk. Somewhere with less people" He didn't even wait fro me to answer. He started walking towards the beach.

I sighed and got up from my chair. I wasn't in the mood for a walk, but Jackson had always been stubborn. I left my stuff near the chair. I looked one last time at Connor's direction, but he was reading his book. Stupid books. I started walking behind  Jackson.

He headed towards the beach. We left the pool area, walked down the stairs and started following  the path, which led to the white sand, some meters away.

The beach was huge. I couldn't spot the end of it. White sand was covering everything. Music and people's voices were reaching my ears from every direction. I could see plants everywhere. Green, purple and pink. Also palm trees and other tropical ones.

I knew Jackson wanted to talk to me. But I didn't really know what to say. Of course he had  noticed my staring. He wasn't stupid. Maybe Jackson was the only person I could talk to about my love life. Lee would laugh at me. And Poly wasn't an option.

The path lead into a small forest some meters away from us. I heard a shout from the beach and we both turned our  heads around, just to see Poly waving at us with both hands while jumping. We laughed and waved back at her. She shot us a smile and kept playing valley with a bunch of girls near the sea.

We kept walking for some more minutes,  me observing the place. My eyes drifted to the path in front of us. I couldn't see the rest of it,  as it disappeared behind some banana trees some meters ahead of us.

We entered the small forest and the light disappeared.  The trees we're so big that covered the sun completely. Not that I complained.

Jackson hadn't said a word. Neither has I. I liked silence. It let me think.

I looked around the forest.  It was really beautiful.  The combination of colorful flowers and trees was amazing.  There we're also benches here and there close to the path.

Jackson didn't stop though.  He kept going,  so I followed close behind.

I stopped walking after we ten minutes.  I turned to Jackson.

"We're are we going anyway?" I asked and looked around again.  The path kept going and turned left.

"There" he pointed to the end of the path, were it turned, and kept walking towards it.

I sighed out in frustration and followed.  As it came out,  the turn lead to wooden stairs,  placed at a small mountains surface.  I guessed it would get to the top.

The stairs looked steady. We started walking again. It didn't took us long to get to the top.  Of was more like as a hill.

We stopped to take a look on the place.

The hill was a bit taller that the highest tree. It was mostly green,  with some trees and plants.  There a was bench under a palm tree.  We headed towards it.

After we had sat down Jackson broke the silence by clearing his throat.

"So,  what's the deal? " he simply asked and looked at his feet.  I instantly understood.

Jackson didn't want to talk about my problems.  Something was wrong with him.  I should have known it. I should have paid more attention to him.

"With me?  Nothing serious Jack" I looked at him sideways.
"what about you?"

He eyed me strangely,  but I knew he understood.  I raised my eyebrows at his reaction. He just signed.

"Fine,  I gotta tell you something too. But you first" he said and smiled.

I had no idea what it could be. It scared me a bit.  But I was certain that if it was something serious,  he would tell me.

"Okay then.  Me and Lee did something stupid.  Don't ask what.  And now I'm in love with a boy that doesn't even wanna talk to me" I said really quickly and looked at him.

He had a shocked look on his face.  And then he burst out laughing.  I felt my face burning.

"Finally!  We found someone who is not attracted to you!  It's a miracle! " he said while laughing.

"Hey! You're wrong!  He likes me!  He just doesn't know it yet" I said and pushed his shoulder.

"So, that's all about me" Now it was his turn.  My curiosity was killing me.  I hoped it wasn't something bad.

"Your situation isn't that bad.  Lee has been through worse" We both laughed.  True,  I thought.

"Right.  So, what's wrong with you?"

He turned to me.  He hesitated and then spoke.

"Poly is cheating on me" He said quietly.

I am sure I had a shocked expression when I heard that. He must have made a mistake. It was impossible.

Poly and Jackson had been together for God know how long.  Since I could remember.  They loved each other. That was for sure.

"How do you know?" What else could I say?  I didn't believe him.  I wanted proof.

"I saw her kissing the guy who works on the reception" He looked down on his lap.  I bit my lip.

I didn't really know what to tell to him.  I may be a misunderstandment , I thought hopefully.

"It's okay Logan. I had long ago noticed that she was looking at other guys" He said in a quiet voice.

I still hadn't said a thing.  My problems didnt seem that important anymore. I should have known,  I though bitterly.

A sound interrupted my thought.  I turned my head towards the hotels direction. The view has hidden from some tall trees.  The sound got bigger.

I couldn't recognise it. My instincts kicked in. I got up.  Jackson didn't.  He looked at me curious.

   "Hey,  where are you going?"

I ignored him and started walking. I heard him saying something behind me.

"I just heard something" I said quickly while walking. I passed the big trees in front of me and instantly the bright sun hit my eyes. It took me a minute to adjust to the light.

I could hear Jackson's footsteps behind me. I looked in front of me. The resort was indeed huge. With the beach on one side and the forest on the other. The mountain was some kilometers  away.

I turned my gaze to the source of the now loud sound. Buzzing. I looked straight at the coast.

My breath was caught on my lips. My eyes went wide. Horror grew inside me.

The surf had drawn back hundreds of meters, the abandoned sand shining pale and bright.

And that could only mean one thing. I scanned the horizon, desperately hoping I was wrong. Then I saw it, the blue line on the horizon.  I heard the first screams.

'Tsunami,' I breathe
