INT. F&B AUTO SHOP – NIGHT

Abram leaves the bathroom all cleaned up. He heads over to the office. The door is cracked open. Overhears, Mr. Edwards on the phone.

MR. EDWARDS

He's doing a great job. We'll take care of him...Yeah, no problem, Gwen. For you, anytime...Of course, we're still on for tonight. Are you kidding?...Love you too. Bye.

Abram just stands there, his mind racing. Mr. Edwards comes out of the office. He looks around at the garage.

MR. EDWARDS

Nicely done. If I knew you were this good, I would have hired you sooner.

ABRAM

How long have you been dating my sister?

Abram gives him a hard look. Mr. Edwards holds his glare. Cautious.

MR. EDWARDS

Let's have a talk.

He leads the way to the truck. Gets in the passenger's seat. Abram reluctantly gets into the driver's seat.

MR. EDWARDS (CONT'D)

We were close in high school. I never met your parents because she didn't want them to make it a big deal. But I wanted to be...

FLASHBACK MONTAGE

-We see a slightly younger James Edwards sitting in the driver's seat of his car. He's looking at his acceptance letter. The passenger door opens and a younger Gwen enters, elated. She shows him her acceptance letter to UCLA. He shows his letter. Both overjoyed. She gives him a fist bump and they blow it up. She stares at her letter, thrilled. He stares at her, happy.

-James sits in the driver's seat. The door opens and Gwen gets in. Sits stiffly. He's asking her what's wrong. Still looking straight ahead, she's saying they're moving away. Tears roll down her face and she breaks down. Heartbroken, James wraps his arms around her, consoles her as she cries in his arms.

-They're both sitting in the car. Both timidly staring out their windows. She's saying she's staying. She smiles at him, hopeful but scared. She reaches for the door handle. James reaches out for her hand. Stops her. He's asking her out. She grins. Says yes. James smiles, relieved.

-They're watching a movie at a drive-thru, sharing popcorn. He looks over at her. She looks over at him. They move closer...and kiss. They both smile and Gwen rests her head on his shoulder.

Overlay fade back to Mr. Edwards and Abram.

MR. EDWARDS

I knew things would be complicated. I knew there was a chance you would veto all of it. But you only get so much time on this Earth. Life will always be complicated. You have to decide what's worth fighting for.

He looks over at Abram who stays quiet.

MR. EDWARDS (CONT'D)

You might not be okay with this...

ABRAM

Stop. She's happy. I'm happy. That's all that matters. Just so you know, things will be irrefutably weird from this day forward.

MR. EDWARDS

Temporarily. I'm only going to be your teacher for a few more weeks. Why do you think I push you so hard to graduate?

ABRAM

Now it all makes sense.

MR. EDWARDS

You did a good job today. I want to officially welcome you to the F&B team.

ABRAM

Thank you. Seriously. I won't let the fact that you're in love with sister make it feel any less legit.

MR. EDWARDS

You've earned it. But that means you're going to need a way to get here.

He holds up the keys. Abram looks at him. Is he kidding? Mr. Edward smiles.
