Kim Seok Jin
We approached a mirror. The same mirror that I had passed before coming into the room. I looked up at Namjoon and he motioned for me to stand in front of the mirror. I stood there and I heard his voice in my ear. "Now begins your journey to who you are." I felt his presence disappear and that's when I saw someone standing inside the mirror. He mirrored my every movement and kept a straight face. I got close to the mirror and I noticed that my hand went inside of the mirror. I tried to pull it back out but I couldn't. The reflection then grabbed my hand and began to pull me inside of the mirror.
When I was in the mirror, I immediately, I heard the sound of my footsteps echoing down a hallway that was dark but soon was filled with light. I covered my eyes to protect them from the blinding light before slowly uncovering them. I walked forward into the bright, white office and closed the door behind me. I sighed just before I heard a knock at the door. "Doctor? There's someone here to see you." "Alright, just give a few minutes." "Yes sir." I touched my lips. I didn't say that. Who's speaking these words through me?
I opened the door and took a seat at my desk. The door was knocked upon again, making my head look up. It was a woman. She kept her head down and I couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with her. "Please make this a quick checkup." She said. "Are you alright, ma'am?" She ignored me and kept her arms crossed. I sighed and proceeded with the checkup. From my observation, I was a gynecologist. This made me slightly uncomfortable, but my outer face knew what it was doing. It was almost like I was just watching a movie from someone else's point of view.
Afterwards, she began to cry. "Ma'am, I assure you that everything will be alright. Okay?" She ignored me once more and slipped on her coat. "Lee Mei-Wai." She paused and turned towards me. "I know who you are. I have known your heart for years. Please, just talk to me." She paused and sighed before looking back up at me. "This town is not big enough for the two of us. I will be leaving at dawn." "Mei-Wai.." "Goodbye Jin." She said before opening the door to leave. "Forgive me." Forgiveness from what? What have I done?
The door closed behind her and before I knew it, I was being transferred into another vision. It was set towards later on into the night of the past when I had gotten set free to explore the world in my spare time. As I was walking, I saw a body falling from the corner of an alleyway and I caught it. Blood was splattered all over the body and the dress was exposing her most sacred areas. I took off my coat and covered her with it. I brushed the hair from out of her face and that's when I realized who it was. Lee Mai-Fang. Mei-wai's younger sister. Yeo-Dong-Saeng.
I wept as I held her body close to mine. I couldn't call her sister because it was already past the time that she had left for her trip to another world..
Away from me..
I was then transferred to an event that was even further into the future. I wore a black suit and Mei-wai wore white. I couldn't look at her and she couldn't look at me. For I knew that this had been my fault. If I had only been there, watched out for her and stuck to my promise, none of this would have occurred. I made a promise to honor and protect Lee Hyung's daughters on his deathbed. I vowed to be their oppa and now, I have failed him.
I decided that since I was so unworthy of still calling myself Mei-wai's Oppa, I also beheld myself to be unworthy of my own life. But I didn't want to die. Secretly, for the longest time, Mei-wai has been my only reason to live. And now that she sees me as a man who would bring harm to her and her sister, a man who is unworthy of his life and breaks his promises, I have my final words written down to give to her.
Although I know that she will never read them, I will still have the comfort of knowing that I have said what has been on my heart for the past nine years. I grabbed her hand and placed the note in her palm. I wanted to keep her hand in mine, but I knew that fate, my fate, would soon be met. I left after taking one last long glance at her heart through her wondrous eyes and went back to my house. I sighed as I stared at the clock. I picked the exact time for me to go away from this earth.
Twenty minutes away from my fate, I sipped away at my tea. The blade resting peacefully in my left hand. The heat rising on my face as I got closer and closer to each minute that would come with my passing. I stayed seated where I was with only ten minutes left. I began to think about Mei-wai and my never-ending love for her. I knew that she could never love me back. Especially after all that her sister has gone through and where her sister is now because of me. Five minutes left on the clock and I nodded to the picture of Lee Hyung. I prayed for forgiveness until I heard the clock say that it was time.
Tears streaming down my face, I raised my blade and stuck it through my body. "I shall bring honor to the family name." I then began to drag the blade across my stomach and soon found myself choking on my own blood. The room becoming darker and colder with every blink. The pain was unbearable and yet I still did not scream. I saw as I rose up out of the body as if I were a spirit and that's when I knew that the body of the man that I portrayed, was dead.
But one minute later, I heard knocks at the door. The fists were pounding at the door and a female's voice was screaming. I went up to the door and unlocked it. She came inside and screamed even louder than before when her eyes landed upon the dead body. "Seok Jin! Kim Seok Jin!" Her wails brought the attention of many people who then alerted the police. She cried as she held his body close to hers, not caring about the blood that was spilling onto her dress.
