Saying Good Bye

Keeping your head and ears outside of Harry's jacket, you braced as Buckbeack leapt from the terrace and into the sky. Turning back to the tower you saw Snape and Fudge enter the top of the tower, making you mentally sigh in relief. Facing forward again you closed your eyes to feel the rushing winds through your fur as your long ears flopped in the air.

Hearing Sirius laugh gleefully you could imagine his wild unkempt hair blowing in the wind. "You truly are your father's son, Harry!" Sirius yelled over the wind as Buckbeak dipped down towards the school's courtyard to land. Shifting to get comfortable as Harry wrapped an arm under you to keep you from falling out of his jacket, Harry and Sirius quickly climbed off of Buckbeak.

Waiting until the green eyed boy knelt down you slipped out from under his jacket and turned back and shivered. "Whoa its cold. Let me back in." You said turning back to Harry as he snickered while Sirius swung Hermione off of Buckbeak and onto the ground next to you and Harry. "I'll be forever grateful for this. To the three of you."

Sirius said gratefully when Harry stepped forward. "I want to go with you." He said longingly wanting to be with the one family member who would properly take care of him, making Sirius smile apologetically. “One day perhaps. For some time…life will be too...unpredictable. Besides, you're meant to be here.” Sirius said before clapping a hand on Harry’s shoulder, looking him in the eye. “But promise me something, Harry.”

Sirius said seriously, making the green eyed boy nod. “Anything.” Making his Godfather continue saying. "Trust yourself. No matter the challenges you face and I fear there will be many, you'll be surprised how many times you can find the answers...here.” Sirius said gently tapping Harry over his heart before backing away to climb atop Buckbeak, when a shooting star arced through the heavens.

Seeing the bright falling star streak across the sky Sirius grinned widely as he turned back to the three of you. “A shooting star. Make a wish.” He shouted before slapping Buckbeak’s rear making the hippogriff jolt and rear slightly before moving to run and soar up taking the both of them into the glittering sky. Waving at them as you watched Sirius and Buckbeak disappear. “Please be careful out there!!! Remember to take care of yourself and don't go doing anything reckless!”

You shouted happily when the clock tower rang out with a seemingly loud Ding! Wheeling around with Hermione and Harry to stare at the tower you looked to Hermione as she wide eyedly looked at you and the wild haired teen worriedly. “We have to go.” She said making the three of you dash off, through the halls, racing up the tower stairway, then passing through the mechanism of the clock tower and on through to the end of the corridor.

The clock tower bell was still thundering in the background as your group raced through the halls to the hospital wing. When the doors of the hospital opened, Dumbledore backing out saying. “By the way, when in doubt, I always find retracing my steps to be a wise place to begin...Good Luck.” Before closing the door behind him. Fumbling to come a immediate stop the three of you are about to hit the jamb, when... suddenly... Dumbledore stops. Looks up with a knowing look in his half moon glasses.

"Well?” He asked simply as Harry panted slightly. “He's free-Sirius. We-we did it.” He said getting an innocent tilt of Dumbledore’s head. “Did what?” He asked with a twinkle in his eye, before swinging the hospital door open for them. Happily smiling as you waved at your headmaster as he left you followed Harry and Hermione as they entered slowly catching the faintest glimpse of yourselves across the room just as they evaporated.

Watching Ron blink in confusion then turn to the three of you as you all calmly walked back in the room and then frown at you all. “How'd you three get over there? I was just talking to you over there?” Ron said, glancing to the other side of the room, frowning more. As Hermione glanced mischievously at you and Harry. “What d'you think, (First/Name), Harry? Too much for him with everything that's happened tonight?”

She asked making Harry grin
“Afraid so. Always been a bit of the nervous type, Ron has.” He said making you giggle as you walked over to the bed Ron was at as he stared at you and the other two confounded as they grinned. “When you're feeling better, maybe I can figure out a way to tell you what just happened.” You said as Ron just sighed and shook his head. “I’d hope so.” He grumbled as Hermione and Harry moved to join you at his bed.

Feeling bad about how you stopped Lupin last night you were heading to his office to ask how he was when Harry came up beside you. “Going to see Professor Lupin?” He asked as you nodded. “Yeah, I want to see how he's doing. I knocked him into a tree and not to mention Buckbeak. You?” You said, making Harry nod sympathetically as he looked away.
“I want to talk to him more about my parents, about Sirius, about everything really. There's a lot that I want to know more about.” He said as you silently grabbed his hand and squeezed. “We’ll find a way to clear Sirius’s name. You and Sirius deserve to be with real family.” You said as the both of you came up to the DADA classroom.

Seeing it empty Harry pointed to the slightly open doorway leading to Lupin's office making you both head up the small flight of stairs. Peering in quietly with Harry over you, you both saw Lupin standing over a battered suitcase, filling it with the last of his books from around the room. And without turning, he spoke. “Hello, you two.” He said making both you and Harry jump at seemingly being caught without being seen as Lupin turned, smiling through haggard eyes.
“Saw you both coming.” Lupin explained gesturing to The Marauder's Map lieing open on an otherwise bare desk.

Walking in and picking up the parchment to see what Lupin had as Harry nodded, you looked back to Lupin. And gasped at the state of Lupin's appearance making you drop the map and round the desk over to him. “Oh Merlin! Are you okay? It was too dark for me to see how badly youd looked last night!” You said worriedly taking your Professor's hands to pull him down so you could get a better look.

Smiling gingerly and tiredy. “I've looked worse, believe me.” Lupin said, carefully pulling away from you as Harry eyed the open desk drawers, the bare bookshelves, before saying quietly. “You've been sacked.” Making you wildly look around. “What? No! This isn’t right!” You said as Lupin lightly patted your head. “I resigned, actually.” He said, making you and Harry yell. “Resigned! But why!” sadly.

As Lupin smiled lopsidedly. “It seems that someone has let slip the nature of my condition.” He said as your shoulders dropped in dismay as Harry hissed. “Snape.” Making Lupin wave his hand dismissively. “Whoever. It was bound to get out. This time tomorrow, the owls will start arriving. Parents will not want a...Someone like me...teaching their children.”

He said sadly, making you shake your head. “That's not true! You're the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher we’ve ever had! They’ll understand!” You said as Harry nodded “And Dumbledore-” Harry started making Lupin raise his hand “Has already risked enough on my behalf. Besides, people like me, well...let's just say I'm used to this by now wizards and witches don't easily trust one such as myself. But before I go, tell me about your patronus Harry.”

Lupin asked, turning to the green eyed boy as he smiled. “Well. At first I thought it was a horse, or perhaps a unicorn, but I think it was-” He started as Lupin smiled more already knowing what Harry would say. “A stag.” He said simply, making Harry nod. “Yes.” Looking between the two, you tilted your head before it clicked. “The silver creature that forced the dementors away.” You thought as Lupin moved to walk around you and to his suitcase.

“Your father used to transform into one. That's how he was able to keep me company when I became...sick. He was a great friend, James.” Lupin said smiling wanly, lifting his sorry suitcase before stopping. “There are stories about him and your mother, you know. Some are even true. But I think it's safe to say, in the end, you'll know them best by getting to know yourself.” Lupin said locking eyes with Harry as you looked between the two knowing that there was more to this than you could understand at the moment.

Watching Lupin then with a wicked twinkle raised his wand before tapping the map. “Mischief managed.” He said making the map slowly return to its blank unassuming bundle of parchment. Turning to look back at Lupin and again try and plead with him to stay, you stopped at the empty space he was once in. “He...just left. I hope he can find a job that’ll accept him.” You murmured remembering how your Professor had looked at the beginning of the year as Harry moved to lead you out of the bare office.
