Proud Hippogriffs
Walking down the steps leading to Hagrid's hut you shook your head at Hermione as she spoke. "Death omens. Honestly. If you ask me, Divination's a very wooly discipline. Now Ancient Runes. That's a fascinating subject." She said making you raise a brow questioningly. "Ancient Runes? Exactly how many classes are you taking this term?"
Ron asked getting The bushy haired girl to glance back at him. "A fair few." She answered making you blink "Wait isn't Divinations scheduled at the same time as Ancient Runes?" You asked getting a small smile from your friend as Ron butted it saying. "You'd have to be in two classes at once to take both of em."
Making Hermione's smile drop. "Don't be silly. How could anyone be in two classes at once?" She asked before the four of you arrived meeting the already forming group surrounding Hagrid. "C'mon now, get a move on! Got a real treat for yeh. Great lesson comin' up. Follow me." Hagrid ordered smiling happily at his students.
Following Hagrid down a small forest trail you wondered what type of creature Hagrid was going to introduce to the class when you neared a paddock, a freestanding iron rack hanging with dead ferrets, buzzing with flies. Nearby is a pumpkin patch with what you think is the world's largest pumpkins. Blinking at that you carefully started petting your book to calm your nerves as you started to slightly worry.
"Gather 'round. Find yerself a spot. That's it. Now, firs' thing yeh'll want ter do is open yer books-" Hagrid instructed when Draco interrupted him. "And exactly how do we do that?" He asked hotly, annoyed as his book growled angrily. Blinking as he took notice of the many belts, ropes, spellotape, and other means available that have been employed to bridle The Monster Book of Monsters, which quivered violently in his students hands except for yours.
"Crikey. Didn' yeh know? All yeh've got ter do is stroke 'em. Look." Hagrid said gently taking Hermione's copy from her and broke, the Spellotape binding it. Watching the book as it begans to bite, you smiled as your professor calmly ran his forefinger down the book's spine making it shiver before it fell open quietly.
Silently watching Hagrid look suddenly unsure of himself. You were about to step up and comfort him when he said. "Righ' then. So... so... yeh've got yer books, an' now yeh need the Magical Creatures. Right. So... I'll... I'll go an' get 'em." Before turning and disappearing into the trees. Frowning a bit you saw Draco shake his head from the corner of your eye, turning to him when he spoke rather loudly to Crabbe and Goyle.
"God, this place is going to the dogs. Wait until my father hears Dumbledore's got this oaf teaching classes." He said making Harry turn to him angrily. "Listen, you stupid prat-" He started when Dracos eyes widened suddenly making him back up in fear. "Potter, there's a Dementor behind you!" Draco yelled making you and Harry jump and turn to see nothing.
Turning back to glare at Draco and his friends as they made eerie oooooh sounds, before break up into laughter. Scoffing. "Real nice Draco, real nice. Quite acting like a spoiled child." You growled holding onto Harry's arm to pull him way when a large creature broke through the tree line. Gazing at the beautiful beast with a torso, hind legs, and tail of a horse, as the front legs, wings and head of a giant eagle.
Gasping in amazement as the others took a few steps back in fear, you resisted the erge to go over and pet it when Hagrid came up with a bright smile. "The students step bacGee up, there! Beau'iful, isn' he?" Hagrid asked making you nod enthusiastically as the others seemed to differ a bit while still gazing in wary wonder nonetheless. As Hagrid coaxed the beast to the center of the paddock.
Making Ron pipe up uneasily. "Hagrid. Exactly what is that?" Turning to him and nodding "A Hippogriff, o' course. Now, firs' thing yeh gotta know is they're proud. Easily offended, Hippogriffs are. Don't never insult one, 'cause it migh' be the las' thing yeh do. Right then who wants ter come an' say hello?"
Hagrid said making everyone step back, moving to step forward you felt Hermione pull you back leaving Harry in alone front. "Good man, Harry!" Hagrid said gesturing for the green eyed boy to step forward, getting Harry to look around, then reluctantly approach the magical animal.
"Tha's it. Easy now... stop! This here's Buckbeak, Harry. Yeh want ter let 'im make the firs' move. It's polite, see? Jus' take step forward, give 'im a bow, and if Buckbeak bows back, yeh're allowed ter touch him. Ready?" Hagrid instructed stopping Harry before he got to close. "I want to go next!" You whispered to Hermione covering your mouth with your hand.
Watching Harry unsurely step forward and bow you held your breath when Buckbeak's head cocked to the side as its eagle eyes studied Harry carefully. Waiting for what felt like an eternity you jumped when Buckbeak flared his wings a bit. "Back off, Harry! Back off!" Hagrid ordered making Harry start to step back up when he stepped on a stick.
Gasping and taking a step forward worriedly when Buckbeak ducked his beak bowing back at Harry making you sigh. "Well done, Harry! Go on. Give 'im a pat." Hagrid said smiling happily at the wild haired teen. Tilting to the side to see Hary tentatively reach out and lay his hand on
Buckbeak's fierce beak.
Clapping along with the class your smile winded when Hagrid said "Look at that! I reckon he migh' let yeh ride 'im!" Grabbing Hermione's arm "I'm so going next!" You whispered watching Hagrid left Harry up and onto Buckbeak's back. "We'll jus' set yeh behind the wing joint. Mind yeh don' pull any feathers out. He won' like that. And off yeh go!"
Hagrid said smacking the hippogriffs flank making Buckbeak rear up before bolting forward into a gallop starting to flare his wings out. Watching both Harry and Buckbeak leap into the air you and the others slightly chased after to continue watching until they were out of view. Quickly bolting over to your professor.
"Can I please go next Hagrid?!" You asked getting the bearded half giant to laugh and pat your shoulder. "Sure yea can, when Harry ge's back you can try n get Buckbeak ta let ye ride im." Hagrid said lightly patting your shoulder as he turned to whistle loudly.
Seeing Buckbeak come into view you waved at Harry when the hippogryph came to a galloping halt make the class cheer then, except for Draco, who narrowed his eyes maliciously at Harry. Backing away a bit so you wouldn't offend Buckbeak you grinned as Hagrid helped Harry down. "Good work, Harry!" Hagrid started happily before whispering "How'm I doin' me firs' day?" Getting Harry to grin. "Brilliant... Professor."
Grinning at the two you frowned when from the corner of your eye you saw Draco push through the class roughly, and stride straight towards Buckbeak. "Draco!" You hissed as he started going on a small rant. "Give me a go at that thing. If Potter can do it, it must be easy. You're not dangerous at all, are you, you great ugly brute-"
Bolting over to the pale blond halfway through his tangent to either push or pull him away. "Malfoy! No! (First/Name) get back here!" Hagrid yelled just as Buckbeak reared up swinging his talons downwards. Freezing alongside the steel grey eyed boy you felt a slight sting on your forearm when you moved to push Draco back.
Watching Draco fall back you stepped in front of him when you saw Harry dash forward making Buckbeake whip around and raise his talons, but lowered them at the sight of Harry. Sighing when you knew the hippogriff wouldn't hurt Harry you turned to Draco who was crying out.
"It's killed me! It's killed me!" Looking at Dracos arm your eyes widened at the blood seeping out between his fingers. "Calm yerself! Yer fine... jus' a scratch…" Hagrid said quickly coming to Dracos aid and moved his hand away from his wound. Gasping and covering your mouth at the deep gash glistening on Draco's limp arm you turned to Hermione who ran forward.
"Hagrid. He's got to be taken to a hospital. I'll go with you, if you like-" She started making the half giant shake his head. "No. I'm the teacher. You all… you all just... Class dismissed!" Hagrid yelled scooping Malfoy up and flopped him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, and lumbered toward the castle with the class following him.
Feeling your arm slightly sting you brought up your arm to see a small cut bubbling blood down your arm. Turning to Harry as he was lightly petting Buckbeak you hid your wounded arm behind your back and held onto it tightly to stem the bleeding. Carefully walking over you put on a smile. "I'm sorry about what Draco said to you. Your an amazing creature."
You said lightly bowing your head making the hippogriff look at you and bow its head to you and lightly rub against your cheek. Widening your smile you lightly petted him with the back of your knuckles so you wouldn't bloody Buckbeak's feathers. "Common Harry let's head back to the castle. We'll need to tell Dumbledore what really happened before Draco spews some story." You said getting Harry to nod.
