Chapter Ten
Barry awoke with a start, eyes snapping open, his head lifting up from the soft pillow it had been lying on. He was fully aware and on guard immediately, his last memory being fighting some sort of crazy monster. His eyes were open but all he could see was the Forsaken and he started thrashing around, screaming as one of the creatures moved toward him.
Terrified, Barry screamed again and scrambled to get away from it. His heart beating a mile a minute, he tried to get off of the bed he was lying on. His brain had him trapped in the memory of last night and he struggled to breathe but he felt the panic seeping in. He prayed for Magnus and closed his eyes, feeling the panic attack take over before he was dragged down into the depths of unconsciousness.
OoO
The next time Barry woke, it was to the sound of hushed voices and the scrape of a chair. His hazel eyes fluttered open but he didn't move; he just stared up at the ceiling, listening to the voices.
"He's obviously of a Shadowhunter bloodline. I mean his body reacted to the healing rune as any of ours would have." A male voice, Barry determined.
"Yeah, but you guys saw his eyes right? I mean they were silver/gold!" Another male.
Someone sighed exasperatedly. "Simon, what are you even doing here?"
"Helping out jackass."
Barry decided that he'd heard enough and moved to sit up. He was surprised when he didn't feel any pain at all and he looked around at the people standing around his bed. Only one person was sitting in a chair that had been pulled up next to the bed he was lying in. There were three boys; the one in the chair had black hair and blue eyes, the one standing the closest to the redheaded girl had blonde hair and golden-brown eyes, the third had dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. One of the girls had a striking resemblance to the guy in the chair, and Barry guessed that they were related.
Barry stared at them, his hazel eyes full of confusion and curiosity. He blinked and the redhead stepped up, her green eyes filled with concern as she started to talk.
"How do you feel?"
Barry shrugged and rubbed his face. "Fine, I guess. Who-who are you guys?"
The guy in the chair spoke up suddenly. "I'm Alec Lightwood and that's my sister Isabelle," the girl with long dark hair smiled, "Jace," the blonde just nodded his head in greeting, "Clary and Simon." The redhead waved and the other boy smiled awkwardly.
"Hi...I'm Barry Allen." He glanced around the room and saw out a window that it was still dark out. "How long was I out?"
Isabelle shrugged and said, "A few hours. You woke up during the first hour screaming and thrashing around, so we had to make sure you didn't hurt yourself after the first time."
Barry frowned. "The first time..."
Alec sighed and stared him in the eyes. "You woke up for a moment or two when we were trying to get you here and you panicked, started kicking and flailing around. We were making our way up the stairs and I dropped you. Even after that though you kept fighting, like you were being attacked by an invisible enemy. You hit your head pretty hard and started to seize."
"We had to do an iratze on the spot." Jace added, motioning to Barry's torso.
Confused, Barry looked down, grabbing the hem of the sweater - they must have changed and cleaned him up too - lifting it up, revealing a rune. It was an iratze as they called it. It was a little bit above his right hip, close to the plane of his lower stomach. Barry brushed his fingers over the rune, facinated by the black ink etched into his skin.
"Usually, mundanes don't take well to having runes drawn on them. They turn into the things from last night--"
"Forsaken..." Barry whispered, looking up at the shadowhunters.
"But you're not a mundane." Clary said.
Barry stared at them for a long moment before he spoke. "No...I guess I'm not."
OoO
Magnus was worried out of his mind. He couldn't find Barry anywhere. He reached out to him with his magic, trying to sense him in any way he could. The connection was there, he was alive and that made the warlock relieved. Now it was the simple matter of doing a locator spell to find him and bring him home.
When he had panicked, he hadn't been thinking straight and didn't even think about doing a locator spell as he searched the entire city from top to bottom. Now that he knew Barry was safe and alive for the moment, Magnus portaled back to his penthouse to preform the locator spell. He grabbed a map of the city, a small vial of sand and a strand of hair he got from Barry's pillow.
Magnus layed out the map on the wooden dining room table, poured the sand out onto it, and placed the strand of hair on the map as well. Magnus, using his magic spoke the incantation.
"Ce che vous, pro la busque. Ce che vous, pro la busque. Ce che vous, pro la busque."
Magnus watched as the energy was drawn from Barry's strand of hair and the sand began to come together on a single point on the map. When the spell was over, it had revealed Barry's location to him and Magnus was not very thrilled about it. He stared at the point on the map where the Institute was supposed to be.
Sighing, Magnus portaled his way into the infirmary where he was sure to find one Barry Allen. And right he was. The minute he stepped out of the portal, all weapons that had been drawn were put away when they realized it was just him. Barry, the poor boy was sitting on the bed, eyes wide when he caught the look on Magnus' face.
"Crap." Barry muttered.
Magnus smiled. "May I ask why you are here, of all places Barry? And why you are out of the penthouse in the first place?"
Barry gave a helpless shrug as he looked at him sheepishly. "Uh...circumstantial coincidence?"
"Wow. He's worse at lying than Simon is, and that's saying a lot." Jace snickered.
"Hey!" Simon exclaimed indignantly.
"It's true." Isabelle agreed.
"Wait," Alec made a gesture for everyone to shut up. "You two know each other?"
Magnus stood with his arms crossed and he raised an eyebrow. "No one has answered my question as of yet." His voice was deadly calm and he saw Barry wince, knowing he was in trouble.
Barry hesitated to answer at first before, "IwasattackedbycreaturescalledtheForsaken."
Magnus raised the other eyebrow and Barry swallowed nervously. "What was that? I couldn't understand your mumbling."
Barry took a deep breath and closed his eyes, dipping his head in shame. "I was attacked by Forsaken and...they saved me."
To be continued....
