[1] Day Before
J U N K A I Y O
I walked my way towards the gate, looked up at the old school in front of me. God, it looks like a mess. If this was something from the movies, I'd say it looks like it went through hell and became temporary refuge from a zombie apocalypse. I could still hear the speakers replaying one of the welcoming speeches made before the school got closed.
Welcome students to Satsujin Academy! A school for preteens and teens alike! Here, you can test your knowledge, skills...
I then opened the gate, walking inside the school's premises. The old cherry blossom trees were just a mere gray old looking decoration now. Its leaves were no longer there and there were no longer cherry blossoms growing.
As I held my DSLR camera in my hand, the speakers replayed the welcome speech in a loop.
"God, what is this? A commercial? Tch. What a school," I told myself as I held my DSLR camera and took a picture of the Satsujin Academy. The photo might be essential for later. Who knows?
The overview of the school seems a bit eerie and not to mention silent. But of course, it was pretty normal for me since it just reopened. The banner was still on top of the school as it hangs there like it was just pinned there and was never removed.
What kind of school would have that many kids when it just reopened anyway? Actually, I don't even know. Even if I tried to reason myself with that theory, I still felt like there was something off.
I tried to shook it off like was pretty normal to me but the feeling won't go away. What is this school anyways?
Being the club leader of the photography club back in the days was tough work. I have to admit, solving crime and stuff was very hard. I guess all the work paid off by going to this school. Of course, the photography club back at my school was like a crime investigating game. You're the photographer for the dead bodies and someone from the group shall be the detective.
I walk inside and saw some floor boards dirty and unpolished. Footprints and dust scattered everywhere. The janitor probably ran off, slacking and enjoying a little quality time for himself.
I can't blame him though, the school's a mess. Footsteps are marked within the floors with a little bit of dirt and mud. A mop would certainly help to clean it unless they don't have a mop.
I sighed as I walked inside the empty hallways. The sound I could only hear was my footsteps and someone breathing very loudly. A loud shutting door quickly echoed through the hallways and stopped.
Well, there goes the silence.
At the very end of the corridor, I saw something luminous. Something sharp I suppose. I walked towards it so I could inspect it but someone swiftly grab it before I do. It looked at me with its brown eyes then quickly took off.
"Hey! Comeback here!" I yelled as I followed it. Its footsteps went up hurriedly as I tried to grab on to its uniform. Once I did, it quickly got irritated.
"やめる! (Stop!)" It grabbed my hand and turned me around, the knife was just an quarter inch on slicing my neck. After a few certain moments, it pulled me back. I could feel its brown eyes staring at me as I look at the knife terrified.
"Don't you dare try anything or I'll make sure this knife will be the last damn thing you'll see." I then felt the knife leaving my neck as it lets me go, making me fall on the floor.
The it I was calling was a him.
He was a tall, asian boy with a cap on his head. He looks at me with his brown eyes, studying my features before putting the knife in his long sleeves. His dark black hair was a bit ruffled as he fixes his glasses before helping me up.
"When will you learn that grabbing someone's uniform is utterly disrespectful?" He said as I stood up and looked at him from top to bottom. I quickly looked at his name tag, seeing his name and picture printed on the case.
Akio Daichi
Class 2-A
"Hey, you're one of the chosen students, am I right? The guy from Hitozuki Academy?" I asked him, raising my eyebrows. He stares at me then quickly walks away. Rude. I grabbed his uniform once again and pulled him back.
"Answer me, おとこ の こ! (boy!)" I said as he looks at me. His eyes boring into mine like he was about to kill me the next time I pull on his uniform. He then puts his hands on his pockets as he turns back around and walked off.
"Look, I'm just trying to go to my class." I then followed him as he kept looking up at the signs and reads them.
"I don't care," I said as I crossed my arms. He sighed as he quickly grabs my hand and pushes me to the wall. His hands quickly went to my mouth, covering it while he looks around.
"A-Akio - " he then interrupts me as he used his other hand to signal me to shut up.
"Shh," he hushed me as he puts a hand on my mouth. I swear, I could hear a clanging sound coming from one of the rooms as Akio removes his hand from my mouth and pulls out the knife he had gotten earlier.
"Ara~Ara~" I heard someone singing as I could hear a chainsaw whirring and someone screaming for bloody murder. Then, a splashing sound and a clanging went on for a minute. I swear to God, it sounded like someone was getting crushed.
"W-Who was that?" I then put my hands on my mouth as I said it in a muffled voice.
He shrugs as he then grabbed my hand and carefully pass the room, trying to be utterly quiet. He took one step at a time as I tried not to make a sound as we walk.
But suddenly, the chainsaw sound stopped.
We could hear footsteps pacing to the room. Then, silence. I could hear someone breathing right behind me. The hair on my neck slightly tingles. I could feel someone breathing on the crook of my neck as if it was following us. Akio holds my hand very tightly, trying to tell me not to move. He then stopped walking, making me stop as well stand there, scared.
"Ara~ Ara~ Is someone there? I can hear you~ I can feel your presence~" then, the chainsaw brattles very loudly right behind me.
"Ara~ Ara~ Jun~" it whispered on my ear as I tried not to scream. God, I don't want to die.
Suddenly, Akio pulled me towards him. He then steps in front of me as I heard and saw an old lady screech in front of us. Her hair was in a tangled mess and her long white gown was white and definitely dirty. I closed my eyes, trying to block her scream.
"やめる! 彼女を放置する! (Stop! Leave her alone!)" Akio yelled as I heard the lady quickly took off, getting Akio's message. I looked at Akio who huffed and continues to guide me through the dark hallway.
"What was that all about?" I asked him as he ignored my question. We then walked silently and went upstairs. We then saw a room that said Class 2-A. We saw some chairs that were aligned in a circle and a room full of writings. Believe me, if I knew that I'd be going in an old abandoned school and knew there wouldn't be students roaming around, I would have already declined the offer.
We then went inside and saw a student, sitting on one of the chairs. I couldn't clearly see her face but I knew that it was a girl.
She wore a dark blue uniform that resembles the old uniform of Satsujin Academy. Her hair was in a bun and she was looking down to the ground, unfazed about my presence. I quickly went up to her with Akio on my back. He then looked around the room as he went to the teacher's desk and opened it. Not that I mind his presence around me though. I just feel a bit tense around him.
"E-Excuse me, are you one of the chosen students?" I tried to touch her but Akio quickly grabbed a hold of my wrist and pushed me behind him. I then removed his hands on my arm and looked at him, angrily.
"What's your problem Akio?! Can't you see the girl's alone?! I was trying to - " he then interrupts me.
"She's already dead. You don't need to ask her. Let her be," he told me as he mentions me to sit on one of the chairs. I stared at him at bewilderment and asked him.
"Huh? What do you mean she's dead?" I looked at the girl and saw that she was now staring at me. Her crimson eyes were piercing through me as I stared back. Every second I look at her much better, the more gruesome she became to look like. Her charming smile was then replaced by a ill-looking cut on both sides of her lips, smiling wickedly at me. Her eyes then became black as if it was possessed.
"Don't make an eye contact, Jun." I heard as I looked at her features more, my attention getting off my surroundings every second. I could see the pain in her eyes. She was pleading for help. The pain she went through was flashing before my eyes.
"Jun." Akio called back at me as I just sat there, not noticing him. I could see that she's trying to communicate with me. She was a victim. I could see her being stabbed open. Her organs scattered right across the floor.
In the Occult Club.
"Jun!" Akio then grabs a hold on both of my shoulders, pulling me out of the chair and into the floor - shaking me. I quickly snapped out of it as he said my name. How? I never told him my name.
"W-What? Where? How did you know my name?" I asked, stuttering as I looked at him - scared. He then sighed as he sat upright on the floor, facing me.
"Your name tag. God, don't scare me like that. I swear, if you try to interact with the dead again, I'll leave you here," he said as he stood up and stopped shaking me. He opens his bag and quickly tossed me some chips. I took a deep breath before calming down.
In the corner of my eye, I could still see the girl looking at me.
I opened a bag of chips and went to look at the photo I took on my camera. I then clicked some buttona, scrolling through the photos I took before I go inside. I then ate some of the chips as I inspected the photo of the school outside as I was at the main gate.
But something suddenly caught my eye as I quickly zoomed in.
There, I saw myself, smiling at the camera from the window with someone beside me.
Akio.
"A-Akio, did you search this area before I came in here?" I stopped eating as I looked up at him and shooked his head.
"No, not really. Why?" He asked me as he sat beside me and looked at the photo on my camera. I looked at him as he grabs the camera on my hands.
"I never went here before. What the -" then, my camera started to glitch out.
We saw someone on the other side of the window, smiling at the camera with a peace sign. A girl with a brown hair, smiling at the camera. She was beside me at the photo, looking right at me.
Akio then stared at me and then back at the camera.
"Someone's here."
