Gray Emmerson

''Did it really have to take you so long to get back home?'' I huf towards Elaine, who apparently was standing in the doorway. ''You are unbelievable! You know that?''

After Matthew's magical words, I felt starstruck. I mean, this was the first time someone ever took some sort of interest in me. I never knew how to act in situations like these nor was I experienced. I wasn't even sure if what he said meant something and if he really was about to take action this time, but somehow I felt quite positive about it. He had this certain determination glinstering in his eyes and his tone gave away the willingness.

There was not much of a doubt with Matthew.

''Well, it was a fun party.. You left way too early Emmerson..'' He mutters and shrugs nonchalant, leaning against the wall as the drunk ass he was.

Elaine's face was nothing but exhausting. He was putting his entire weight on the wall as he struggled to keep his eyes open. Even from where I was standing, I could smell the alcohol that was he was reeking with.

''My god.. Let me get you to bed..'' I sigh while shaking my head, knowing I was always the one pulling Elaine's head out of his stupid ass.

I turn towards Matthew with an apologetic face, feeling this guilt playing heavily on my heartstrings. The boy was being so nice to me and stayed with me all night. Now I have to throw him out of the house thanks to my annoying best friend.

Let's be honest, Matthew deserved better than that.

''I'm sorry, but I really have to go help that asshole..'' I smile while staring in his eyes. ''Thank you so much for tonight. I really do appreciate it.. Hope I'll see you soon? Without having this idiot to interrupt us..'' I laugh softly, trying to lighten up the mood by making fun of Elaine.

''Of course you'll be seeing me..'' He grinned soft, watching me with a playful look on that damned face. ''I have the guts now, remember?'' He winks at me, pointing back on something he said earlier. He walks past me towards the front door and left, but not before a good stare in the eyes.

He took my breath away just by that simple look. His eyes were staring inside my soul and that heartwarming smile, melted my insides. My heart fluttered at the thought of someone who liked me, other than Elaine. It wasn't just a simple person who liked me. No, it was actually someone who had been crushing on me, thinking about me in some sort of romantic way.

Matthew seemed like a boy you could trust. Maybe this time I will finally have someone who will fight over me. Someone who is going to stay by my side until the end.

''And what was he doing here?'' I hear Elaine murmer unamused and I didn't even need to look at him, knowing he was rolling his eyes at Matthew.

Elaine had always been protective over me. Every time I talked to someone else, had to go to a place that I have never been or whenever I was alone, Elaine would be there by my side to keep an eye on me. It was his way of protecting me, which was pretty cute if you asked me. Sometimes he could be too overprotective though.

''Be nice to Matthew, asshole'' I snort and walk towards Elaine after Matthew left. ''Unlike you, he was there when I needed someone and he actually took me home. You know how much I hate party's, yet you got what you wanted. You always get what you want'' I pull Elaine's arm around me and tried to drag him towards the bedroom.

He was so drunk he didn't even bother replying to my remark. Elaine's eyes were pretty much shut, he was drooling over his entire chin and you could actually hear some soft snores coming out of his mouth.

I couldn't help but smile at the sight as I carefully laid him down. These were moments in which Elaine looked small and peaceful. I was the only one who knew who Elaine really was: from the outside he acted like a tough big boy, but from the inside he was a sweet boy who genuinely cared about others, wanting nothing but some love. I eventually wrapped the blankets safely around him and cleaned his face.

My attention got caught by his phone that suddenly lit up. I carefully pulled the phone from his hands and accidently read the text message he had received.

Sara | 01:45

Where are you? Why did you suddenly leave like that?

Elaine | 01:49

I'm going to Gray, he needs me. I already stayed too long at the party.

A smile unconsciously appeared on my face when I read it. Even though it was way too late and Elaine was already sleeping when he arrived home, he came all the way back for me.

I carefully laid next to Elaine and watched his face. My hands had found their way towards his dark hair as I had been wrapping some dark strands around my finger, curling and caressing his hair. The moonlight shone on his perfectly light face, making him shine even more than he already was. Maybe I imagined it, but Elaine suddenly started to smile a little which made my heart beat faster.

My thoughts were getting clouded with all of these memories I made with Elaine in the past few years. If you asked me what my favorite memory of him would be, I would barely be able to answer it since I had way too many. But there where three certain memories that would always stick with me for the rest of my life.

The first memory that stayed with me, was when it was my first birthday while Elaine and I were friends. Before I met Elaine, I never made a big deal of birthdays so it wasn't a surprise to me if everyone forgot it. Little did I know that Elaine was fully aware of my birthday and threw this entire surprise party for me. There were many guests and my favorite artist was at the party to sing for us. He even made sure to get a cake, presents and decorations. This was one of the first days I cried all night long because I was so happy. Before this day, I never knew I needed a surprise party to feel as good as I did back then. I remember Elaine telling me that everyone deserved a birthday, he thought I deserved it to be put in the headlights.

The second one was this random moment in high school. Everyone started laughing at me and making fun of me, because I was wearing a pink underwear. Elaine suddenly left my side. I remember feeling pretty hurt and upset about it, because he left me there on my own and I hadn't seen him all day. Until lunch break. Elaine walked inside the cafeteria, stood on a table and showed off this entire pink glittery outfit. He gave an entire speech about how pretty the color pink was and how everyone should shut their mouths before he was going to burn the people. After that, he grabbed me by my arm and took me to treat me on my favorite milkshake that was on him. It was hilarious, emotional and so thoughtful of him.

My third and final favorite memory, was of course the first day I met Elaine. How could I not pick that one? He dropped all of his friends just so he could play with me and my Spiderman. It was the day that Elaine chose for me, only me and promised me his neverending loyalty to me. From this day on, our neverending, loving and caring friendship started.

And that's when I realized it, that was the moment my life started to change forever.

Holy shit..

Oh no...

No, no, no, no, no..

I was in love.. I was in love with my best friend..
