Chapter 2: Who Are You

The moment I woke up, my eyes snapped open and I shot up into a sitting position on the comfortable bed I found myself on. The last thing I remembered was falling asleep as I was being carried by Stephen. Since I wasn't dead or being burned alive, I assumed that the group of people weren't actually murderers, and so I let myself relax.

Swinging my legs over the four-poster bed, I pushed myself onto my feet. I looked down and saw that I was wearing a pure white night gown. Surprisingly, I didn't want to know how I got in it, nor how my skin and hair was clean.

The room around me was simple. A large bay window was the main focal point of the blue painted room. White sheer curtains blew lightly rom the breeze coming in from the open window. There was a dresser in the corner near a closet. Next to the closet was a half opened door that seemed to lead to a connecting bathroom. Nothing else was in the room besides a small painting of light blue orchids. Familiarity ached in my mind, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

I walked into the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror for the first time. Hollow was how I looked. It was if my body was collapsing into itself. My arms were dreadfully thin and my collar bones were sunken in. I observed my face and ran my fingers across my button nose and sharp cheek bones. My eyes were icy blue and my hair was short, black, and messy. I guess I was pretty, but I did look awfully sick. Perhaps my appearance would have made more sense had I actually known what happened before I woke up in that hole.

My attention was drawn to the sound of voices, and I quickly made my way to the door of the bedroom, silently opening it to peer outside. The hall was empty but the voices weren't that far away. I slowly followed them so I didn't alarm anyone with my presence and make them attack me. I slowly padded myself down the stairs and came around the corner to a semi-large kitchen. I stood at the doorway just watching the people in the room converse around the kitchen table.

I recognized Stephen right away, olive skin tone with light freckles around his nose. His hair was a dark brown shaggy mop on the top of his head and the dark brown scruff around his jaw and upper lip perfectly complemented his skin. The one thing that truly made this medium built man stand out was his light green eyes that seemed almost iridescent. He was dressed in all black except for the olive green hunting jacket.

I turned my gaze up observe Finn who was currently engaged in a very animated discussion, although I didn't really care too much about it and instead focused on his appearance. He had dark skin and curly black hair. His eyes were a deep chocolate brown that seemed to brighten every time he smiled. He was wearing a grey henley top and black pants while his leather jacket was behind him on the chair.

Finally my eyes fell on the girl whose name I wasn't aware of. Her tan skin and green eyes were accented by her short pixie cut black hair. She too was wearing all black but wore a brown leather jacket over top. She was pretty. She didn't look like me, all sunken in. She was full of life and beauty.

Maybe I had been observing the three for too long because they all turned to look back at me. I looked down almost immediately and clenched my hands behind my back.

"Morning Princess." Finn called out to me with a grin. Stephen got up from his chair and grabbed my hand, leading me back to sit down, and I just sat there with a small crowd of people surrounding me.

"So, what's your name?" Stephen asked curiously and everyone slightly leaned in more. I opened my mouth to respond, but still no sound came out. It wasn't like it would matter. I didn't even know my own name. Looking down, I shrugged my shoulders.

"You don't know?" The beautiful girl said. "Well then I- Oh!- I never introduced myself. My name is Maeve." Finally my curiosity was quenched and I felt satisfied. I gave her a small nod in return.

"Hello darling" a new voice said. "I'm Philip." I turned my head to look at a middle aged man with a large bushy beard. His hair was dark brown and long. His eyes were grey and seemed to be full of kindness. "Welcome to our town of Rasten. This is my wife Lucy."

Lucy was a short petite women with shoulder length chestnut hair and light brown eyes. Her smile was warm and inviting and I felt myself relax.

"I'm sorry you've had such a hard time sweetheart. I can't even imagine if something like this were to happen to my own daughter." Lucy said sympathetically.

"Do you remember anything?" Finn asked. I shook my head no and then felt Philip's hand on my shoulder.

"If you like, we'll help you attempt to get your memory and even your voice back." Philip offered. "You can stay as long as you'd like." I smiled to give a thanks, and then Maeve spoke again.

"Listen pretty eyes, you are gonna learn that everyone is family here." Two boys who were sitting on the counter looked at each other and then back at me.

"Not literally, like, metaphorically." One of the boys replied. The other responded by punching the one in the arm.

"She knows that, stupid. She isn't an idiot." The other boy said with a snarky tone of voice.

"She might not have! I was just clarifying." The two boys began to argue until Lucy cleared her throat.

"Jax, Thomas. That will be enough my boys." They looked down and mumbled a "yes mom". I smiled a little at the scene but let my face go back to a resting neutral look.

"Here i'll give you the run down." Finn started as he dramatically stood up and propped one leg on his chair. "Okay so you've met Philip. He's the mayor here. Love this guy. And we have Lucy who is like a second mom to everyone. they have three little munchkin bites: Jax, Thomas, and Sarah Grace. Then we've got Stephen and Maeve. Those two idiots grew up with each other so they're basically siblings." He then threw his arms out. "Now there is me. I"m the toughest one here."

Maeve snorted. "Just yesterday you were crying over a fly." I raised my eyebrow and looked back at Finn who had fallen back in his seat with his head resting on the table.

They die before they can find love! It must be lonely for them." He his his face and Stephen patted his back.

Lucy got up and lead Philip over to help move a larger table into the kitchen. "Okay now. I'm going to make breakfast and we can talk about what to do next. Who wants eggs?" There was a chatter that started, and I just sat back and observed. I took the to observe everyone's faces, antics, and relations. If I couldn't talk, I was gonna get to know them before they even said a word. I needed something to focus on and here it was.

Time to find out everything.
