Julie's POV:

*Five years later*

I waited outside of Hunter's school. The wind whipped my hair across my face, and I crossed my arms over my chest. The grocery store I work at, gave me a thick green sweater to wear over my uniform during the autumn and winter. It was a slow day, so my manager let me leave an hour early. It was nice not to be rushing to the elementary school at the last minute to pick Hunter up.

After that night I killed Tommy, Jimmy and I stuck to the story that we created together. The trials took months and were long and exhausting. Jimmy and I had to sit up on the stand and tell our story over and over to a room full of people. In the end, Jimmy was sentenced to ten years for being an accessory to murder because he never told anyone about Tommy or Charles. The time apart has been long and grueling, but his sentence could have been worse. During the trials, I had nightmares that they would lock him away for life or give him the death sentence.

The threatened to put me in jail, but they quickly decided that I was a victim in all of this. The court makes me go to therapy every week. Every Monday morning, I dropped Hunter off at school and then head downtown to the doctor's office. Dr. Lane is nice, so I don't mind going to her office. She helped get rid of the nightmares. She often talks to Detective Cameron about my progress. On my first meeting with her, I told her I wanted to visit Jimmy. She talked to Cameron, and they decided that when Dr. Lane decided I was ready to visit Jimmy I could. Five years later, and she told me Monday that I was allowed to go.

Detective Cameron called me that night. He told me that for good behaviour Jimmy had been transferred to a minimum security prison just thirty minutes away from my apartment. He offered to drive Hunter and I there because he said he had to be in the room. I didn't care. I got to see Jimmy.

The bell rang to the school and I waited at the bottom of the steps. A couple kids started running down the steps. I saw Hunter in the crowd with his backpack that was way too large for him, but it was the one he wanted. He had grown an obsession with insects and he loved the dragonflies decorating that bag when we were in the mall.

I waved at him, and his face light up when he saw me and he cut across the stairs. He gave me a quick hug and I pulled down his hat that he hadn't pulled over his ears.

"We get to see Daddy now?" he asked.

"Soon," I told him. "We have to go home and eat first."

He held my hand as we walked back to the apartment. My stomach was twisted into a knot, so I couldn't eat, but I made Hunter a sandwich and a glass of milk. While he sat at the table he was playing with two of his plastic dinosaurs. I was too nervous to stay still, so I went into the bedroom and changed out of my work uniform.

There was a knock on the door and when I opened it Cameron was standing there. Because of all the publicity the trials got, Cameron became busier than ever. I rarely saw him since Carrie died, but he did pop by every once in awhile to check in on me. I don't know if he had to do it, or if he did just because he wanted to do.

"Are you ready?" he asked.

"Yeah," I said. "Hunter is just finishing dinner."

Cameron stepped in and followed me into the kitchen. The plate in front of Hunter was empty.

"Mommy, can I have a cookie?" he asked.

I reached up into the counter and grabbed a bag. I placed one on his plate and then I handed one over to Cameron. He chuckled and ate it.

When Hunter was done, I told him to go wash up and he ran to the bathroom. I cleaned up the kitchen, but Cameron did not say anything to me. I went into the bathroom to make sure Hunter did not flood the bathroom with water, a bad habit he had, but he was wiping his hands on a towel.

"Can I bring one of my bugs?" he asked me.

"Only the fake ones," I told him. "None of the real ones."

Hunter nodded his head and ran into his room. He had a shelf full of plastic containers with holes in the lids. We often went to the park and I helped him catch worms, beetles, and crickets. Hunter looked at all of his toys he had stacked on his bed to decide which one to bring. I sat on the edge of Hunter's bed. I took the glasses off of his face and cleaned all of the smudges on them. He had Jimmy's large brown eyes, but I noticed that when he started feeding himself he couldn't pick up his utensils. He would grab way left or way right of his spoon or fork. One trip to the optometrist and one pair of glasses later fixed that.

I always wondered what we would have done if we lived in that house. We wouldn't have been able to go out and get him glasses. We probably would have had to let him go blind.

Hunter picked up a plastic mosquito and I took his hand. When we got back out to the kitchen, Cameron was sitting at the table and he had his phone in his hands.

"We're ready now," I said.

We left the apartment and got into Cameron's car. Hunter sat in the back seat and was tossing his toy up into the air to watch it fly. I turned and looked between the seats and watched him. Cameron turned on the radio and only said a few words to me on the drive over.

I didn't know what I was expecting when we entered the prison, I had never been in one before, but I was surprised. I emptied out my pockets and put my purse and Hunter's toy through the scanner. Hunter was nervous to walk through the arch of a scanner, so Cameron took his hand and walked through with him. I followed after and picked up all of our stuff. We got to a desk and I had to show my ID. A dull alarm buzzed and Cameron opened up the door next to the desk. I was behind him as he went down the halls. He obviously knew where to go.

There was a room with multiple tables and chairs. The walls were lined with windows looking out into the hallways. There was one Officer sitting behind a desk at the front.

"Take a seat at an open table, Juliet," Cameron said. "He'll be here in a couple of minutes."

I sat down at one of the tables at the back. There was no extra seat, so Hunter sat on my lap. Cameron was with the Officer talking behind the desk. Hunter started to babble on about something he learned in school today, but I was too nervous to focus. I kept saying "Oh yeah?" and I couldn't stop my knee from bouncing.

Men wearing bright orange jumpsuits started flowing into the room. They each had someone waiting for them and they jumped right into conversation. I looked for Jimmy, but I couldn't see him. No one else came in and I looked up at Cameron. I couldn't hear him, but I saw him say something to the Officer. He picked up the phone and dialed someone.

"Where's Daddy?" Hunter asked me.

"He'll be here soon," I said.

I saw a flash of orange and I looked up as another prisoner walked in. If it wasn't for the scar across his face, I probably wouldn't have been able to recognize Jimmy. His long hair was now replaced by a buzz cut which made the scar look even larger. He looked like he had gained more muscle, but I didn't know if that was just my imagination. His jaw dropped when he saw me. I felt my face light up. He pulled out the chair across from me and reached out and grabbed my hand. It felt so good to feel his touch again.

"Julie," he said. I couldn't stop from smiling. I never thought I was going to hear his voice again. He looked over at Hunter on my lap. "And Hunter. I can't believe it."

"I missed you so much," I said.

"I still can't believe it," he said. "I never thought I was going see you again. No one has ever visited me."

"I wanted to come earlier, but they wouldn't let me."

"You're here now," he said. "I'm getting out soon."

"What?"

"I have a parole hearing next month. If everything goes right then I get to leave."

I squeezed his hand hard. He ran his thumb along my knuckles.

"Would you like it if Daddy lived with us?" I asked Hunter.

I looked down at Hunter to see him have his mosquito clutched in his hands. He didn't say anything but he nodded his head.

"Look how big you are, Hunter," Jimmy said. "I haven't seen you since you were a baby."

"He's real smart, Jim," I said. "He loves school. And he loves bugs. Show Daddy what you brought, Hunter."

He placed his toy on the table. "It's a mosquito. Mommy wouldn't let me bring the real ones."

"She wouldn't?" Jimmy had a faint chuckle.

"No, the bugs stay in your room," I said.

"They're not allowed in the kitchen," Hunter said.

Jimmy laughed and I giggled along. I took a quick glance up to see Cameron watching us. The Officer next to him was staring out into the room, but they were talking to each other.

"How have you been?" Jimmy asked me. "Are you two safe?"

"We're safe," I said. "I have a job at a grocery store and Hunter is in kindergarten. We have an apartment. It's not the greatest, but it's not horrible."

"Have you...um." Jimmy shifted his weight in his seat. "Have you had any boyfriends?"

"What? No, of course not, Jimmy," I said shaking my head. "I love you. I'm waiting for you to get out so we can be together again."

"We're still together," he said. "We're always going to be a family."

"Next month you can move in with us," I said.

Jimmy let out a deep breath and ran his hand down his face.

"Julie, if I do get out early," he said, "I have no idea what to do. All I know is the farm. I can't survive out there."

"Remember when you came to Carrie and I's apartment? I told you I would help you."

"Julie-."

"No, Jimmy. You saved me, and now I am going to save you."
