Awakened Darkness. (Horror)

The darkness is awake.

I can feel it in my veins. Every living cell in my body is conscious of the unexplainable presence and its immense strength. A shiver ran down my spine with goosebumps sprouting out on my flesh. My eyes were widened with horror and my lips parted for a sharper intake of air. My hands clutched into a fist digging my nails on my skin. The pain helped relieve some of the fear coursing down my body, grounding my body. Ensuring that I am not dreaming. I looked up again at the vile creature. Creature, indeed. Neither was it a human nor an animal. An octopus, perhaps, with half of its body being serpent-like. It was colored pitch black with two big eyes that glowed red. It had ten arms which were more like tentacles and its head parted in half to reveal a tongue identical to a snake's. The whole scene reminded me of some monster or aliens from the 'Men in Black' series except for the fact that this is much more frightening and life-like than I could have ever felt.

The monster or so was snarling at the fridge. Maybe it was hungry but shouldn't it be eating something more human-like? However, the good news is that I am standing beyond the eyesight of the monster. Thank the god! It snarled at the fridge some more then grabbed at the thing with two tentacles and squeaked it to death. In simple word, destroyed it. My hands were sweaty and the supernatural vision in front of me kept me shivering. I wanted to move and go back to my room but the shock and fear kept me still.

I took a step back and immediately regretted my decision. Something snapped behind me and the monster turned its head towards me. It's attention focused on me. Adrenaline rushed through my veins and arteries. I could hear my own heart thumping against my ribs. I choked on a scream and everything went black.

Samira finished her narration. She could see the indecision in the headmistress's eyes. She kept her eyes trained on her feet not daring to look up. She made the mistake of venturing out of the dorm room at night without any prior information or important reason. The tear rivulets had dried up on her rosy cheeks. Her charcoal black hair was in a tangled mess sticking up in her face and her black eyes held fear.

Samira was found today in the dining hall, unconscious, beside the destroyed fridge. She was just a ten-year-old child scared to death due to the horrific scenes she had witnessed. The headmistress huffed a sign and instructed Samira to return to her hostel room.

"Do you think she is telling the truth?" the warden questioned the headmistress.

"That is debatable. However, I am sure she did see something yesterday night. Something scary. Maybe it was a monster, maybe not. She is a disciplined girl and I don't think she is lying and destroying the fridge was certainly not in her power. She is just telling what she saw." the headmistress replied.

"Maybe she had an anxiety attack or maybe she illuminated it all." the warden suggested.

"The possibilities are extreme but for now I want you to keep an eye on her" the headmistress's worried expression was mirrored in her tone.

Back in the dorm room, Samira was thinking about her past. How she was found by the street side a year ago by one of the orphans who lived here. How they had brought her in and took care of her. They had renamed her Samira because she couldn't tell her actual name. Because she didn't have one. Quite obvious. But they mistook it for her incapability. How much can a ten-year-old girl remember considering she told them she was on the streets for about three years? Ten years old. Really?

Yes, she did look like it but please, she had been frozen for years.

Perhaps ten years. Or maybe a hundred.

Or maybe a million.

She keeps losing track.

So much time had passed. The last time she had seen the world it never contained these vile creatures they call 'human'. Well, there were a few. But not in this abundance. Their groups were small. Ignorant. Afraid of the different dangers the world can unravel. Some of them even treated her badly.

When she first came here, she remembers being bullied by a girl named Lily. She was a senior... maybe. She isn't sure of her age though.

This Lily had shoved Samira into that small fridge one day to teach her a lesson. Samira hates cold.

HATES IT.

Mainly because she spent so many years sustaining it. But now? Now she is awake. So she couldn't bear the sight of the vile thing they called fridge. Who did even invent it? It's not like they don't have ice.

Lily thought that maybe Samira had learned her lesson but she doesn't know one thing. No one does.

No one knows she is capable of generating so much heat in her body that it can melt metal. No one knows she was frozen for so many years that she was older than all of them. No one knows that she has a different identity, different than anyone can even think of. No one knows that she is not human.

Samira was staring at the mirror, her tears had disappeared so was were the feared hands which were shaking. But this was no wonder. Even her figure which stood tall and prim wasn't a wonder. However at the place of a set of pained, fearfull, and innocent black eyes which was brown at the edges, back looked a pair of amazingly shone bright red eyes. Wonder, Indeed.

The edges of her lips were stretched wide apart. She was grinning. Maybe planning for a new victim to kill. The question was 'Who'? It had been so long since she had killed anybody. Maybe she will start with someone innocent. Someone small. Someone ignorant.

LILY.
