Chapter 14
Owen's head felt foggy as he blinked awake, at first he wasn't sure where he was, it was too dark to see any details but the floor beneath him suggested he was still in the warehouse. He sat up and blinked a few times until his eyes adjusted... when they did he found another slumped figure bound to the wall with blood soaked clothing.
"Murdar?" He limped over, his shoulder and head screaming in pain. Thankfully she seemed to be fine when he looked down at her form. "Murdar get up we need to leave."
He shook her before feeling her body jerk beneath him as she woke up, lashing out at him as she did so. Owen easily moved out of the way until she went still again, her eyelids closing again.
"I thought you were dead." She muttered without looking at him.
"Then I'm the liveliest corpse I've met." He replied. "You seem to have regenerated though."
She looked like she was still dying with the shadows under her eyes. "Yeah, failing to upgrade does that to a person."
He froze and looked towards the door. "It works?"
"Since two days ago..." She shifted her position to help relax her arms. "Yvonne has been trying to fix it... she'll be back soon."
"We have to get out of here before then." He started untying her, feeling her gaze burning into him. "I have a plan."
"You woke up less than a minute ago, how could you already have a plan?" She criticized.
"Don't you trust me?" Owen joked, trying to lighten their situation.
"You specifically give me no reason not to." She held up a hand to stop him from talking. "But, you give me no reason to trust you either."
"How about the fact I want to live?" He asked.
"You could sacrifice me for a means to allow you to escape."
Owen stared at her. "You just think through everything don't you?"
"No, just what comes to mind." She looked around before frowning. "Where's my bag?"
"I haven't touched it."
He watched her as she stood up and walk around before finally dropping near the corner diagonal from them. "Found it."
Owen moved closer as she opened the bag up, she gave him a cold look as he settle beside her before going back to digging through her supplies. "We could've been out of here by now if someone hadn't messed with all of this."
"I only went through the largest and smallest pockets." He replied in defense. "Not the one you're going through."
"Still Torchwood's fault." She growled before putting something on her jacket before putting it on. "I mean, come on, you people just want aliens to show up so you can kill and dissect them right?"
Owen glared at her. "How many times must we tell you-"
"And not to mention how you have a hand in a jar, a pterodactyl, and who knows what else just lying around. Sure dinosaurs are fine, great pets, but aliens... oh no! Those you kill on spot!" She cut him off and grabbed her knife.
He jumped back as she lunged at him, the blade was less than a millimeter from his face and she pressed her attack as she unbalanced him. Owen knocked the blade out of her hand with his good arm; not pausing as it skidded across the floor, before flipping them so she struggled underneath him, a sharp blow to his head sent dark spots across his vision. He fell to the side as his head cleared again, but by that time Murdar had once again pinned him and he felt pain fill his shoulder before the pressure let up somewhat as a popping sound came from the injury.
"Big mistake." He growled and pushed up from the ground, now that his shoulder was back in place the pain was starting to fade.
Murdar fell back and Owen elbowed her onto the ground, a snap followed and he looked back to see blood running out of her mouth and her head tilted at a strange angle. He heard the door open and backed away as the Cyberwoman walked in and stared down at Murdar's unmoving form.
"Subject 20-15-13 is deceased." The robot looked over at him. "Next subject will be tested for upgrade."
"Not today." He darted out of the metal arm's reach and was about to grab the knife when a Letifer slammed into his side and he skidded across the ground.
He groaned as blood trickled out of the wound in his side before noticing the creature looked different... in fact its eyes seemed to be the only organic thing left of its body. He felt the metal hand grip him before he was dragged out the door, looking back he swore Murdar smirked and shifted to look at him. She had faked her dead and condemned him to die or worse just so she could live, rage filled his veins as he was shoved back onto the machine and strapped into it. He couldn't escape now if he tried and to be honest he was scared. This wasn't how he wanted to die, not like this, not where he couldn't fight.
The machine powered up and he struggled against the restraints as blades descended towards him. He stopped struggling and stared up at the objects that would kill him, he wouldn't die a coward. Footsteps ran towards him but he didn't take his eyes off the blades, they were nearly on him, a few more seconds and it would be over... one side he'd become a Cyberman without feelings or his past... on the other side he would be dead.
"Hey, Yvonne!" Murdar's voice made him glance away from the blades. "Come fight someone who can fight back!"
"You will be deleted." The Cyberwoman turned away from him before a pained sound came from its robotic voice box before ash fell to the ground.
Another five seconds later the first of the blades cut into his skin before the power shut off. Owen swallowed as he saw the dead knife right above his left eye, another second and he would've lost his sight.
"Like a real Time Lord... Dignity even in death." Murdar stared down at him with a smirk. "I guess you do have some balls after all Dr. Harper."
"Just get me out before the Letifer Anguis come to finish us." He ordered, a slight frown coming over his face as he saw her take off a pair of metal gloves.
She leaned closer to him with a grin, her vortex like eyes stared down at him like a galaxy. "Strange, this is the first time I've ever seen a Torchwood member tied down before... I quite like the change in roles."
"Murdar..." Owen strained against the strong restraints. "Let me up."
"Fine..." She muttered before hitting a button.
He sat up with relief coursing through him before giving the gauntlets another look. "Where did you get those?"
"Gallifrey." She picked them back up and put them in her backpack. "Why? You want to take them too? I'm running out of weapons here."
"No, no... I wasn't going to take them..." He shuddered at the memory of the Resurrection Gauntlet. "Anything you will let me use to fight with?"
"Stun gun?" She pulled out a small weapon.
"Something that can kill." He emphasized.
She pulled out an alien gun and threw it to him. "It's like a flamethrower."
"Better." He grinned as he held the weapon with expertise. "Let's get out of here."
"You're on your own with that. I won't work with Torchwood anymore than I already have." She walked out of the room, twirling her knife in her hand as she went.
Owen followed her a moment later before hearing another sound of a deadly foe. A second later a Dalek's blast flashed in the dark room of the main storage room followed by the sound of it screaming the telltale confirmation of the enemy. "Exterminate!"
"Shit." Murdar's voice growled from a shadowy corner nearby. "It always has to get worse."
"Still want to go solo?" He asked, walking over to her. "Or will you finally team up for a bit longer so we can both get out of this?"
"I don't care if you die but I have more than one life, I know I'll make it out even without your help." Her voice didn't sound too certain.
"At least make it sound convincing." Owen called her out on her lack of faith. "Or is there something you know I don't?"
Murdar was silent for a long time as Dalek screams and growls of the Letifers filled the air. "It's like I saw before I woke up in your medical room... I die here forever."
"What if I told you, you don't have to?" He asked before holding his gun up to fight. "Just follow my lead, we can cover each other. We will get out, you can leave then."
"Alright." She agreed finally. "One last time."
