"Hi," I said to my two other friends Lily and Xavier as I sat at the table with them in the canteen.

"Where's Katie? " Xavier asked me.

"I don't know exactly," I lied to her, but it wasn't a complete lie though. Katie told me that she was going to meet Dave before rushing off towards the field.

"Hey babe, sorry I can't give you a ride back home today. I have practice after school. " Peter, Lily's boyfriend, told her as he wrapped his arms around her shoulder. Peter and Lily had been dating for the past two years. They were an adorable couple.

"Okay. I'll go with Xavier," she said looking at her best friend.

"Yeah no problem. "Xavier replied.

"But then, I won't get to hang out with you." Lily pouted.

"Aww. "I said a little too loudly but covered it with a cough when Lily glared at me.

Xavier and I both fake gagged as Peter and Lily started kissing in front of us.

"Eww! I am literally trying to eat here." I said scrunching up my face in disgust as they continued kissing as if their life depended on it.

"Why don't you guys try some actual food, you know, instead of eating each other's faces, " Xavier grumbled as Lily went red with embarrassment while Peter grinned sheepishly. Then giving a small peck to her, he hurried off.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I opened it to see a message from Alex.

He: Come and meet me at the parking lot after school ends.

Me: Okay.

He: :)

Me: By the way where will we be going?

He: No idea. I don't exactly know a lot of places here. But I'll figure it out probably.

Me: Don't worry. I have figured it out already :)

He: Oh , where's it ?

Me: You will see.

He: Is it a surprise?

Me: No :)

He: Uh... Okay then. See you later?

Me: Yeah.

I walked out of the class as the bell rang. It was the last class of the day and... I was tired as usual.

"Hey. " Katie walked up beside me, her eyes shining with excitement. "Can you come to my house today? "

"Uh no. Why? "

"I.... um....I have a date."

"Yeah right. The one with Dave. "I replied, uncertain as to where she was heading.

"So I was thinking if you could swing by my house and help me with my make up and choosing a dress. "

I looked at her, widening my eyes dramatically with shock and horror.

"What? Me and make up? Ha Ha. Yeah we were childhood best friends you know ."

I knew nothing about make up. I couldn't even dress properly. Katie was the expert in this field.

Katie gave me a flat look. "You are not that bad okay. "

"At this point I seriously think that you are mocking me. "I said shaking my head. "You know I'm terrible at these things. "

"Okay okay fine. " Katie sighed. "But atleast you can help me choose a dress. "

"Sorry but I don't think I can manage. Uh... Alex and I -"

"Date, I get it. " Katie said grinning widely at me.

"Yeah - wait what? " I looked at her, my eyes wide with shock. "No, we just decided to meet up, since we met after such a long time. "

"Oh, okay then. I'll probably call Malissa or June. Bye. "

"Ya. Bye. I want the deets tomorrow. " I said wiggling my eyebrows at her.

" Depends ." She said before grinning and waving me off.

Then shooting off a quick text to mom saying that I would reach home late, I made my way to the parking lot where Alex was waiting for me.

"So where are we going? "Alex asked once we both were seated in the car.

"It's a small cafe. It's pretty close to my house. I often go there. "I directed him.

As we reached the cafe, Alex stopped the car, parking it in front of the cafe. We entered it and made our way towards the back of the cafe and occupied a small round table with two chairs placed opposite to each other. Apart from an old couple and a boy, the cafe was pretty empty.

We sat down but neither of us spoke a word.

Speak something Anna. Stop staring down! I said to myself. My mind wandered back to when conversations flowed easily between us.

"So.... Hi. "

Wow! Real smart way of starting a conversation. I mean after racking your brain for two minutes all you came up with was a 'hi'?

Alex chuckled lightly at my failed attempt to start a conversation.

"God how I missed them. "He said still chuckling while I flushed red. "So it's been pretty long huh? "

"Yeah. " I replied.

"How have you been? "

"Pretty good, you know, the usual. High school, hanging with friends, parties though I mostly avoid them. What about you? "

Alex shrugged. "Same. But it's been quite boring since you left. "He winked.

Wait, did he just flirt with me?

"So you want to eat something ?" he asked.

"Yes. " I smiled sheepishly. "You know me. "

I ordered a latte while Alex settled for a cappuccino along with some waffles.

Slowly as we spoke with each other, the discomfort of meeting each other suddenly after such a long time dissolved completely. We spoke just like old days, discussing about our lives and recollecting memories of Florida.

"We should probably head home. It's pretty late. "Alex said after sometime.

I nodded as I looked outside the cafe. I hadn't noticed that it was already dark outside.

"I'll give you a ride back home. C'mon. "Alex offered once we were out.

"No, it's fine. I'll walk. It's really close to my house. "

" Anna, I insist. It's dark, I can't let you walk home alone. " He argued.

I sighed in defeat and hopped up the car obediently without further arguments and we drove off.

As we reached my house, I looked at him and smiled gratefully.

"Thanks. "I said and turned around to open the door when Alex called out my name.

"Anna? "

"Mhm." I hummed in response turning back to face him. I almost gasped at our proximity and watched as he leaned down towards me.

Is he going to kiss me? Oh my God yes. What should I do?

"Goodbye. See you tomorrow, yeah? " he said softly.

"Y-Yeah." I stammered quickly and practically rushed out of the car, trying to process what exactly had happened.

Okay so first of all, a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all of you who have bothered to read the book upto this much. Since I'm in the tenth grade, I have my boards next year and so I've a lot to study! But I still manage to find a little but of time just to update the story once in a week.
