Trust No One

Here it is! My sequel to "Cipher's Pawn." If you haven't read my One of Us AU one-shot "Cipher's Pawn" yet, I recommend reading that first because you won't have a clue about what's going on in this. I hope you like it!

~~~~~~~~~~
Dipper, Mabel, and Ford fell into the soft grass. Instinctively, he yanked Mabel up, and the two backed away from Ford. Dipper noticed the yellow tape measure was beside Ford, who got up slowly, then snatched it.
Dipper glared at him. "What are you going to do?!" he said angrily. "Are you going to leave us here?! 'Cuz that would be better than going back with you!"
Dipper couldn't read Ford's facial expression, and when Ford took a step forward, Dipper ignored the pain in his foot and started to walk backwards without letting go of Mabel.
"Stay away!" Dipper yelled at him.
"Dipper--" Ford started.
"I don't want to hear anything you have to say!" Dipper snapped. Suddenly, Mabel gave a sharp yell from behind him, and her hand slipped out of Dipper's.
He turned around just in time to see Mabel stumble off a cliff.
"MABEL!" Dipper shrieked. How could he have missed that they were standing on a cliff? Out of nowhere, Ford was beside him. Dipper turned and glared at him. "I-I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY!" he choked out.
"Shut up, kid, I have to concentrate," Ford growled.
"I will NOT shut up, Great Uncle Ford! And don't expect me to--MABEL?!" To Dipper's surprise, Mabel floated over the cliff. She was surrounded in a pink aura; it disappeared and she fell to the ground.
Mabel scurried over to Dipper and hugged him. Dipper slowly looked up at Ford. "What are you?" Dipper asked, his voice wavering slightly.
Ford stared at the twins calmly, and Dipper and Mabel met his gaze with with fear. Ford looked down at the tape measure in his hands, then back at the twins. Hesitantly, he held it out. Dipper looked at Ford, and his eyes flitted from the tape measure in Ford's hand to his face.
"Well," Ford said with a hint of annoyance, "are you going to take it?"
Dipper still didn't trust Ford, even though he just saved Mabel's life. For all he knew, his great uncle could be tricking them. "I don't trust you!" Dipper said. "And I'm not letting you go back home, if that's what you're trying to do."
Ford spoke gruffly. "I wasn't planning on it."
This caught both twins by surprise. "What?" Dipper asked.
"I said, I wasn't planning on going back. I have no intention to do so," Ford replied.
Mabel swallowed, then said hesitantly, "You wanted to get stuck in time?"
Ford kept surprising the twins. His face grew glum, which was very different to the way he was acting before. "I wasn't in charge of myself. Well, my dark side was in charge, and I was constantly being influenced by Bill . . . What I'm trying to say is: I didn't betray you."
"Sure," Dipper said dryly. "I'm sorry--okay, not really--but I don't trust you. At all." Dipper crossed his arms clenched his fists.
"I'm aware of that," Ford sighed. "And I'm sorry. I truly, honestly am. Now, do you want to go home or not?"
Dipper bit his lip. "I-it's busted," Dipper said finally.
"What?" Ford raised an eyebrow. "It's not--"
Dipper suddenly grabbed the time travel tape measure, threw it on the ground, and stepped on it. "See? Busted."
Mabel was taken aback. "What the heck, bro?!" she demanded. "Now we're stranded here!"
"Not exactly." Ford picked up the broken tape measure. "If we can find civilization, I could fix it . . ." Ford trailed off, turning his back to the twins.
Mabel, making sure Ford couldn't hear them, leaned over to Dipper and whispered, "Do you seriously trust him?"
"No," Dipper whispered back.
"Me either," Mabel agreed.  "So, what do we do?"
Dipper frowned. "Make sure he doesn't get back to the present."
"What about us? You destroyed the tape measure!"
"Well, I was sure as soon as I used it, he'd grab my arm, and we'd all go back." Dipper shrugged apologetically.
"But he's gonna fix it . . . What if he leaves us here?" Mabel asked.
"Look, Mabel, I'm not going to let that happen, okay? I'll figure out a way to get us home, and stop Weirdmageddon."
Mabel nodded slowly. "Okay. I trust you."
"What are you two talking about?" Ford interrupted them.
"Twin things!" Mabel said quickly. Ford stated at them before shrugging. "That was close," Mabel whispered.
"How about we stop whispering and talk later?" Dipper rolled his eyes at his sister, who nodded in agreement.
"Okay," Ford said, "we should probably try to find a place to camp. We need to find a way to fix this, and get back to our own time." Ford began to walk, and the twins had no choice but to follow their traitorous uncle.
Dipper and Mabel kept their distance from Ford. Both didn't want to get too close to him, in case this was all a big performance. The two had no idea if Ford was in their side, or Bill's, or if he was just by himself now. Since they had no idea what time they were in, Dipper glanced around for anything that could give them a clue. To their right and in front of them was a forest, and behind them was the cliff Mabel had nearly fallen off of.
"We're going into the forest?" Mabel asked behind Dipper. She clutched onto Dipper's vest.
"Yes," was Ford's only response.
Mabel glanced at Dipper. Maybe they could sneak off during the night. Dipper, however, was still watching Ford uneasily. The two twins followed their great uncle into the dark forest, since they had nowhere else to go.
~~~

Due to the pain in his foot, Dipper had been limping the whole time they walked, but he ignored it. However, as time went on, his limp grew worse. Mabel noticed, and she put an arm around her brother to try and help him. Dipper accepted her help and leaned against Mabel.

"Dipper?" Mabel asked softly. "Are you okay?"

Dipper took a deep breath. "I'm fine, Mabel."

Mabel frowned. "You can barely walk, Dip."

Dipper glanced at her. "Okay, my foot is killing me. And Great Uncle Ford's method of bringing me into the Fearamid didn't help at all."

Mabel stopped walking. "Grunkle Ford, we need to rest."

"Why?" Ford said in his gruff voice.

"Dipper can't walk. His foot hurts, plus you hurt him, too!" Mabel snapped. "If you really care, then we need to stop."

Ford grumbled but used his newfound powers to make a fire. Dipper and Mabel, of course, stuck together away from Ford. Ford seemed to ignore them, though, as he stared at the broken time traveling tape measure in his hands.

"Maybe I can use my powers to fix this . . . ," he said slowly.

"I-I don't know, Great Uncle Ford," Dipper said quickly. "How about you get some sleep?"

Ford grumbled something unintelligible, but he continued to stare at the tape measure.

"What's your plan?" Mabel whispered to her brother.

Dipper tried shrugging a little, but his soreness didn't help. "I really don't have one at the moment . . ." He yawned, then winced. "Okay, yawning hurts. A lot. Pretty much, breathing hurts in general."

Mabel hugged her brother, but not tightly. Then she realized that Dipper felt slightly warm. "Dip Dop," Mabel said as she touched his forehead, "you're burning up! You need to rest."

"But what about . . ." Dipper glanced at Ford.

Mabel shook her head. "Bro-bro, I'm serious. You're going to get really bad sick if you don't."

Dipper stifled a yawn. "I'll be fine."

Ford piped up, "You should listen to your sister."

Dipper glared at Ford and muttered, "What do you know about listening to your family?" Ford either didn't hear Dipper, or he ignored it because he didn't say anything.

Mabel put her arm around her brother. "I'll be fine, Dipper. You really need to sleep."

"You sure?" Dipper asked softly.

"I'm sure."

"M'kay." Dipper felt drowsiness washing over him, and within minutes he had fallen asleep on Mabel's shoulder. Dipper shivered because of the cold winds that had suddenly kicked up, and Mabel tried to keep him warm.

This really isn't the best way to keep him from getting sick, she thought. The young girl glanced at Ford. Maybe he can use his powers to heal Dipper if he does get sick. Mabel didn't think that Dipper would approve of that, though. So she just sat there, holding onto her sleeping twin, occasionally moving him whenever he started to drool a bit, and warily watched her great uncle from across the fire.

Stan and McGucket were able to round up many of the Townspeople, including Pacifica, Candy, Grenda, Soos, and Wendy. The Shack was pretty full since McGucket had brought many of Gravity Falls' supernatural creatures.

"Ugh, this place is so dirty," Pacifica hissed.

"Yeah, well, not everyone can be rich enough for two ponies, Pacifica," Grenda snapped.

Stan sensed a fight between the two, but left McGucket to deal with it. Stan went to make sure Dipper was alright, but no one was there.

"Oh no," Stan whispered to himself. That's when he noticed the note on the chair. Stan snatched it up, and read it quickly.

Grunkle Stan,
I know you'll be mad, but I went to the Fearamid. Bill said that he had Mabel in there. I had to go. Please don't follow me. I don't want anyone else to get hurt. I'm sorry about all the times I got mad at you. You really were just looking out for me.
-Dipper

Stan stared at the note. "You're too stubborn, kid," he muttered quietly. Then he said louder, "Well, I am, too. No triangle is going to hurt you or Mabel."

"What are you talking about?" Wendy asked behind him. Stan turned around and shoved the note in her hands.

"I'm going after him," Stan announced.

"Wait, Mr. Pines, Dipper actually went to the Fearamid?" Wendy looked up from the note. "And Bill has Mabel?"

Stan nodded.

Wendy set her jaw. "Then I'm coming."

"No you're not, Wendy," Stan growled.

"You're not my dad. I can go if I want to go," Wendy countered as she placed her hands on her hips.

Stan shook his head. "No. I might not be your dad, but these kids are my niece and nephew, not your's." Wendy frowned. "I'm serious," Stan added. "I don't want those kids or anyone else getting hurt."

"I doubt Bill will hand them over," Wendy pointed out sadly.

Stan sighed. "I'm going to do anything I have to do to keep them safe." With that, Stan left Wendy and walked into the ruins of Gravity Falls.

~~~
Bill sat on his new throne made entirely out of stone people. The citizens looked petrified; literally. His demon friends were off somewhere causing havoc. Ford had disappeared, along with the twins, but Bill had destroyed Time Baby. He could control time now, and would be able to pop back to the time Ford and the twins were at. If all went well, Bill could have a new asset.
A lone eye-bat flew into the Fearamid. It carried a statue Bill knew all too well.
"Stanley Pines," Bill chuckled as the eye-bat dropped the stone version of Stan his hand. Stan's face looked like he had been frozen in the middle of a sneeze. With a snap of Bill's hand, the stone melted away, and the older Pines let out a rather loud, "ACHOO!"
Stan rubbed his nose, then looked up. Bill looked extremely amused with him, and that only made Stan angrier. "WHERE ARE MY NIECE AND NEPHEW, YOU ONE-EYED FREAK?!" he demanded.
"Whoa, whoa, calm down, Fezzy!" Bill adjusted his bow tie. "I don't have 'em."
"What do you mean you don't have them?!" Stan fumed.
Bill laughed to himself. "Oh, right. The time travel cops showed up, distracted me, and they got away with your traitorous brother."
"You knew where they're at, don't you," Stan growled.
"You know what else I know? The fact that I'm not gonna tell you." Before Stan could respond, Bill snapped again, but this time Stan turned to gold. His face had a worried look, and Bill laughed. "I think I have the right amount of leverage I need."
~~~

Dipper was dreaming again. Except this time, he was dreaming of how he snuck out of the Shack to go meet Bill.

Dipper sat in the chair, thinking about his recent dream. He had to meet Bill. It didn't matter what Stan said. He had to find Mabel. So Dipper got up and limped over to the table. He got out piece of paper and pencil, and he wrote a note. It started out with the basic "I have to," but Dipper paused. What if he never saw Stan again? Dipper wrote down a short apology. It wasn't much, and was very bad, but Dipper didn't have the time. He limped back over to the yellow chair, and he laid the note down in it. Dipper peeked into the room where all of the monsters and magical creatures happened to be staying in. All of the monsters were murmuring to one another, which was good. Dipper would be able to sneak out unnoticed. Quietly, he limped to the door and opened it.

"I'm sorry, Grunkle Stan," Dipper muttered softly.

He made his way through town. It was painfully slow with his limp, but it wasn't like he had much choice. He was going to find Mabel. The eye-bats swooped over him, but never tried to turn Dipper into stone. That freaked him out more than anything else. What was Bill planning? This was when the dream changed. Instead of Ford walking out and throwing a fireball at him, Ford just walked up to him and picked him up.

"What the heck?!" Dipper struggled against his great uncle.

"Shut up," Ford hissed.

"What are you doing?!" Dipper demanded.

"I said, shut up!" Ford shook Dipper.

~~~
Dipper was jolted awake. He glanced around, and Dipper realized that he was being carried through the forest. His captor, whoever it was, was carrying Dipper over their shoulder as if Dipper were a bag. I knew I shouldn't have fallen asleep, he thought sluggishly. Dipper felt feverish and sick, but he tried to get out of his captor's hold. Unfortunately, his hands and feet were chained together.
"Stop," a voice hissed, "or I'll drop you and leave you here."
"Great Uncle Ford?" Dipper gasped. The feelings of betrayal hit him again. "You really did betray us," Dipper said darkly.
Ford faltered but continued to walk. Dipper struggled against him some more, but it was useless. Suddenly Ford stopped and dropped Dipper, earning an, "Ow!" from the twelve-year-old. There was a fizzing noise, and Dipper rolled onto his stomach and looked up. They were in a clearing, with trees circling around them, and it creeped Dipper out more than he already was. A strange portal was opening in front of the two, and a triangular silhouette appeared.
"Wow, Fordsy, you actually did it!" Bill's chippy voice said. "I'm impressed!" He twirled his cane like he always did.
"What do you want with me?" Dipper demanded.
"Oh, Pine Tree, Pine Tree, Pine Tree," Bill laughed. "Always with the questions." He raised Dipper into the air in a blue aura and left him floating there as they talked.
"You better leave Mabel alone," Dipper said in a serious tone.
Bill rolled his one eye and stopped twirling his cane. He snapped his fingers. "Okay, there, I sent her back to 2012 for you. Happy?"
Dipper grumbled, "Maybe."
"Anyways, Pine Tree, you're here because you're going to join me just like Sixer did."
"What makes you think I'll do that?" Dipper snapped. "You were somehow able to send Mabel back to her own time, so you have nothing to use against me."
"I could kill you, you know," Bill stated matter-of-factly.
"I'm not joining you," Dipper repeated. He was starting to feel even sicker each second.
Bill tapped his "chin." "Well, maybe this'll change your mind." He snapped and a gold statue appeared, but it wasn't any gold statue.
"Gr-Grunkle Stan . . .?" Dipper asked softly. His eyes began watering, but Dipper refused to let the tears fall. "What did you do to him?" Dipper's voice shook.
"It's obvious that I turned him into a gold statue. Seriously, Pine Tree?" Bill muttered sarcastically.
Dipper felt his anger rising. "Why do you have to do this to me, Bill?!" He was getting dangerously close to crying. "Why can't you just leave me and my family alone?!"
"Well . . . You guys are all part of a huge prophecy, but . . ." Bill floated closer to Dipper and flicked him in the face. "I think it's fun to mess with your family." Dipper glared at the dream demon. The Pines were apparently a part of some kind of prophecy, but what angered Dipper most was that Bill did most of what he did to them out of fun.
"Well, are you going to join me or not?" Bill asked in a haughty voice. "I think you know what happens to Stanley if you don't."
Dipper looked at Stan, then sighed. "Only if you leave my friends and family alone."
Bill looked like the happiest triangle in the world. "Wow, two Pines on my side? This is amazing! C'mon, Pine Tree, Fordsy, let's go tell our friends!"
Dipper hated this. He didn't want to be on Bill's side. He wanted his sister, but he had no choice. If Dipper wanted to protect her, he had to do what Bill said. The blue aura around Dipper disappeared, as did the chains. He fell onto his face and groaned. He was feeling even more nauseous than before, and Dipper staggered to his feet. The portal was still open, and Bill went back through it. Ford kept a firm grip on Dipper's arm, so he couldn't run away--not that he had much of a choice--and the two followed Bill.
~~~

When Mabel opened her eyes, all she could see were flashes of light. She felt like she was falling, but in slow motion. The colors swirling around her grew brighter and brighter until Mabel had to close her eyes. The feeling of falling in slow motion gradually increased, and it started to feel much more like she was falling for real. Suddenly, Mabel was laying on the forest floor. She glanced around at her surroundings. It didn't look like Weirdmageddon. It looked . . . normal. Where was her brother, though?

 On cue, a familiar voice echoed through the woods."Grunkle Stan . . . No one ever believes anything I say."

Mabel's eyes widened. Dipper. She needed to know what just happened, so Mabel quickly followed his voice and the sound of hammering. It didn't take long to find him. Dipper was hammering up signs for the Mystery Shack, like he had done when he found the journal. Mabel didn't know why he was doing this. What about Weirdmageddon?

~~~
Dipper was hammering up signs for the Mystery Shack. He was upset. Grunkle Stan didn't believe him, but that wasn't new. He sighed as he put up another sign.
"Dipper?" Mabel's voice asked behind him.
 Dipper let out a shriek in surprise and whipped around, dropping the hammer on his foot in the process. "Ow! Ow ow ow!" Dipper yelled as he held his foot.
"Ohmigosh, Dipper, I am so sorry! I didn't mean to do that!" Mabel said in a fretting voice as she ran up to him.
Dipper looked at her strangely. "Usually you just say sorry, but not like that. You okay?" he asked as he stared at her. She looked a little beat up. There were scratches on her face and legs, and her shooting star sweater was dirty.
Mabel paused before answering. "It's, uh, complicated. But nevermind. Hey, what's today?"
Dipper knew something was bothering Mabel, but he decided to play along until she told him what was wrong. "The first week of May. Why?"
"First week of May?" Mabel whispered to herself.
"Mabel, seriously, what's wrong? Why are you acting surprised that it's May?" Dipper asked worriedly.
"Um--" Mabel was cut off when another voice interrupted behind Dipper.
"Hey, bro, who ya talking . . . Is that me?!"
Dipper turned around to see Mabel standing behind him. "Wait, what?" Dipper glanced between the two.
The first Mabel took a step back. "Oh no. This is not good!"
Dipper frowned. When was Mabel ever nervous like that? "One of you is a fake . . . ," he said nervously.
The second Mabel burst out, "Fake?! Well, she's one bad one. I never get dirty like that!"
The first Mabel glared at her counterpart. "Okay, seriously? Once you get into my situation, you won't care that you're dirty!" she snapped.
The second Mabel frowned. "What kind of situation would that be? I mean we're not going to do anything major during summer, right?"
Dipper glanced between the two. "How am I supposed to tell  between the two of you?!"
The first Mabel sighed. "Listen, I'm not a fake. I'm from the future, and--"
Dipper cut her off. "Whoa, if you're really from the future, then you can't tell us anything!"
Future Mabel shook her head. "You don't understand. There's this triangle guy, and he--" Mabel was cut off once again, but this time it was by a strange fizzing noise. She turned around to see a small pinprick of light that grew larger with each second. Soon it looked like a portal with familiar swirling colors. A dark shape was in the middle, and Mabel couldn't tell what it was. It looked like it was getting closer, and then it fell out of the portal and onto the ground.
Dipper's eyes widened in surprise, and Mabel whispered, "N-no way . . ."
Future Mabel looked horrified. "No, no, no!" she yelled. "Dipper!"
