Chapter 2 - A Tight Bond
"Rope, rope, rope, rope, rope.." Sans sprinted through the small town of Snowdin, his boots leaving footprints in the freshly fallen snow. He raced past Muffet's and the Snowdin Inn, stopping at the doorsteps of the town shop.
A tiny ding alerted the shopkeeper sitting at the counter, a reptile of a young age, his merchandise spread out about him on various dark wood shelves.
"Well hello there, kiddo! What can I do ya for?" His voice was smooth and reasurring, and the turtle leaned onto the counter, sitting up a little so he could look at the small skeleton.
"ROPE!" Sans stopped to catch his breath, planting his hands on his hips and looking up.
"I mean, I need rope! Please." The turtle looked at him for a second, then laughed, a bellowing chortle that seemed to full the small building.
"Alright, alright. You take a moment to catch your breath and I'll get it for you." He stood slowly and went around the counter, his eyes searching the shelves.
"Hmm.. Ah! Here we are!" He reached up an grabbed a bundle of gnarly rope, handing it to Sans who smiled and took it graciously.
"Thank you!" Sans shoved his hand into his pocket and fished around for his gold, his fingers wrapping around a few coins when the shop keeper held up a scaly hand, shaking his head slowly.
"No need, kid. It's on the house. Or.. In your hands." He chuckled as Sans opened his mouth to speak, about to insist he pay.
"It's my pleasure. I couldn't take money from a youngin' like you, anyways." He made his way back around the counter and settled onto his stool, sighing as the wood creaked beneath his weight.
"Thank you, sir!" Sans smiled at him and turned around, his hand pushing open the door when the turtle spoke up again.
"One more thing before you speed out of here, lad." Sans twisted around so he could look the turtle in the eye, his expression one of curiosity.
"Respect your elders, aye? They do a lot for you, and always for your own good, even if at times it doesn't seem right." Sans tilted his head and was going to ask a question when a gust of air rang the doorbell again, making him look up.
When he turned to ask the turtle what he had meant he was surprised to see that he was gone, leaving no sign that he had been there in the first place.
Giving a curt nod, Sans once again trekked out into the snow, returning home proudly with the item his brother had asked for.
