Chapter 1 - Surprising News

"PAAAAAAPYYYY!" A shrill shriek of his name startled the skeleton awake, jolting upwards into a sitting position from where he had been sleeping on the couch. He blinked blearily and rubbed his skull with the back of his hand, clutching a bottle of honey, as a shorter skeleton burst into the house.

"PAPYRUS I'M SO GLAD YOUR AWAKE!" Papyrus looked over lazily at the small monster, his head tilted to the side questiongly.

"What's the occasion?"

"Alphys said that you were going to train me from now on!" Sans squealed and pushed his gloved hands to his cheek bones, his pupils shimmering baby blue stars.

"She did, did she?"

"Yes! And I'm SUPER EXCITED!" Sans' bones quivered in anticipation and he hopped in place, his smile spreading wider.

"This will be sooooo cool! You and me, training together, summoning bones and playing out mock fights," he gasped and turned his face upwards to his older brother. "We could even spar!"

Papyrus had been barely listening as the kid droned on, but stiffened at the mention of moving around, let alone fighting.

"Uh.. You can save that one for Alphys.." He muttered and fixed his hoodie, pulling the orange fabric down and giving it a shake to reduce the wrinkles.

Sans had been talking to himself in his squeaky voice when he looked up again, his eyes wide and filled to the brim with curiosity.

"Okay! But what will you teach me, then?" Papyrus paused and thought for a moment, his mind reeling till it came to a screeching halt, a mischievous grin spreading across his cheeks.

"Has Alphys taught you how to escape if your were to be captured?"

"Captured? She mentioned once something about it but almost immediately changed the subject.." Sans put his finger on his chin and then shook his head.

Papyrus chuckled and swung his legs off the couch, standing up and rubbing the top of Sans' skull adoringly.

"That's what we'll do, then." He started to walk to the kitchen but stopped, looking over his shoulder to the joyful skeleton behind him.

"Sans?"

"Yes, Papy?"

"I have your first mission." As soon as the words left his mouth Sans was in front of him, his hands gripping the bottom of his sweater.

"Really? Tell me, tell me!" Papyrus laughed, his smile pulling up to one side of his face.

"Woah, calm down kid. Your mission is to get some rope."

"Rope?"

"Nope."

"Uh.. Then what am I supposed to get?"

"Rope."

"But.. You just..?" Sans shook his head, closing his eyes as he became frustrated with his bother's confusing words.

"Okay, I'll get some rope. Stay here, I'll be right back! Mweh heh heh heh!~" Without another word, Sans dashed out the still open door and slammed it shut behind him, racing off into the fuzzy white of Snowdin.

Papyrus chuckled and turned away, heading to the kitchen and grabbing a fresh bottle of honey, throwing the old one away. He sighed and relaxed as he leaned lazily against the counter, awaiting his younger brother's return.
