Oh, hi there! I owe everyone here a huge apology, I really am sorry for my recent absence. I've been going through a really hard time, and I just don't have the energy or the time to write. Chapter 23:

You see, what Sandor didn't realize when he posed a seemingly innocent question was that the alicorns, more importantly Silvenly, held the piece of the puzzle everyone else was missing. The only way to heal a mind was to have three things. An impenetrable mind, which no one had, the ability to inflict positive emotions, which, again, no one had, and the ability to find the 'warm nook' that the sane mind retreated to. But Sophie had taught Fitz to find that nook.

And Silvenly inflicted positive emotions all the time.

If Dex was right, he could make a tonic that would temporarily boost Fitz's mind, making him nearly immune to Sophie's broken consciousness. And with some help from a certain Alicorn, they could inflict the positive emotions necessary to heal Sophie. Everything could be fixed.

But they needed time. They needed the council off their backs for long enough to get the alicorns to Havenfield, long enough for Fitz to master finding the nook, time for Silvenly and Fitz to work together on transmission and infliction, time to learn how to fix an elfin mind. Because they would only get one shot. One shot, with unproven tonics, a stubborn Alicorn, and a very stressed teenage elf, to heal a mind.

The only way to get that time was to gather all the necessary information, and then some, to keep the Council off their backs. And a little touch of blackmail wouldn't go amiss.
