Chapter Nine
Elliot told me that you had to call up the box office and book tickets to pick up when you get there, information that I passed onto Sherlock before I left Baker Street to go back home and search for a suitable outfit.
I walked into my apartment, flicking on the light and heading straight through to my bedroom to pick out an outfit. After what felt like hours, but in reality was only around fifteen minutes, I settled on a burgundy skater dress and a black hat and heels. I left my hair down, as it usually was and put on my makeup. Once I was finished, I reached over and checked my phone. I saw that it was almost half seven and, as if on cue, I heard knocking at the door.
Swinging the door open, I greeted Elliot before we left the flat and made our way to the circus. We approached the theatre, which was decorated in Chinese lanterns, still chatting away. I had filled him in on everything that had happened with Sherlock. He was my best friend, I told him everything, even if he teased me relentlessly. "Chloe and Sherlock, sitting in a tree, K I S S I N-" He sang, only to be cut off when I covered his mouth. "Hey what was that for?" He asked once I had taken my hand away. I nodded towards the approaching figure.
"Hey Sherlock, where's John?" I asked him, ignoring the look that Elliot was giving me.
"Hello Chloe, inside I assume, with his date." He returned. "Shall we?" He offered, leading the way into the theatre.
"Great, I guess that I'm fifth wheeling." Elliot grumbled, prompting me to elbow him sharply in the ribs.

John was very surprised to see us at the circus, and slightly annoyed by our appearance. He and his date were at the box office picking up the tickets as Sherlock approached him, myself and Elliot coming up close behind. I could see that John was very confused about the extra ticket when Sherlock decided to chime in and explain, "I rung back up and got a ticket for myself, I couldn't be the only one not to go could I?"
"What?" He asked. I chuckled at the look of confusion on his face, stepping forward to join the conversation. John looked taken aback by my presence. I ignored him, reaching past both him and Sherlock, to shake his date's hand.
"Chloe Watson, John's cousin." I smiled, as she took my hand hesitantly.
"Sarah." She returned before turning back to John. John looked at Sherlock angrily, kind of scaring me a little. I did not want to be there when all hell broke loose, so I turned to Elliot, grabbed his wrist and dragged him into the auditorium, ignoring the burning eyes of the back of my head.

"He was totally jealous!" Elliot turned to me when we arrived into the auditorium. I almost laughed.
"What are you talking about Elliot, he doesn't like me, or anyone else, in that way, he's a sociopath." I reasoned.
"Self-proclaimed sociopath." He corrected before looking at me dead in the eye, "You didn't see the way he was looking at you back there, you need to wear dresses more often." He chuckled, turning back to the stage, as John, Sarah and Sherlock entered the auditorium and walked towards us.
"Hey." Sherlock stood next to me. I could feel his eyes on the top of my head, making me turn and look up at him.
"Yeah?" I asked, meeting his eyes.
"You look nice tonight." He smiled, inducing a blush across my cheeks as I bowed my head shyly, thanking him quietly. I looked to the side slightly to see that Elliot was wiggling his eyebrows and sending a wink in my direction, before stepping away from the two of us. I sent a glare back at him, and then, turning back to Sherlock and sending him a wide smile, I turned back to the stage, where a woman had appeared.
Throughout the show, Sherlock was whispering in my ear, telling me how the things in the performance were done. I chuckled at his statements, shushing his playfully every so often, even though I didn't mind, I could tell people around us just wanted to enjoy the show.

Sherlock tiptoed away, just as the warrior escaped death by arrow, I turned to go after him, but Elliot came up next to me and began talking excitedly about the stunt. I chatted back until the woman announced a "Chinese bird spider."
"Whoa." I heard Elliot breath in awe. I turned towards John and Sarah. She wore the same expression as Elliot, but what really caught my attention, was John's troubled face. Sarah asked John something, which he quickly replied to before he looked over at me, then around me as he realised that Sherlock was missing.
"Where's Sherlock?" He mouthed across to me. I shrugged before looking around for myself.
"Elliot, I'm just going to the bathroom, I'll not be long." I explained to my entranced friend, who just waved me off, not taking his eyes away from the acrobat. I walked away, passing John and whispering , "I'll look for him," into his ear, before I left the auditorium.

I was looking around in the foyer, when I heard a scream, which I could only describe as a battle cry. Following the noise, I rushed up the stairs, to where I knew the back stage dressing room area was. I entered the room to see Sherlock fighting against a man in a warlord costume, and he was loosing. I scanned the room for anything to help Sherlock, when I noticed the yellow spray paint, which had been used to leave the messages. I ran across the room, drawing the attackers attention, and just as he lunged for me, I grabbed the spray paint and sprayed it at his face.
The warlord swung his sword at me. I ducked out of the way, or at least I tried to, but wasn't quick enough as the sword caught my cheek slightly. Before he could swing at me again, Sherlock barreled at him, knocking him off balance and through the curtain into the auditorium.
I got up, feeling blood drip down from the gash on my cheek, and made my way through the curtain when I heard Sherlock call out for John's help. I saw the warlord punch John and turn towards Sherlock, to punch him again. His punch lands as Sarah grabs a wooden plank and hits the attacker over the head with it, before running to help John. All of the audience had dispersed out of terror at this point, but I noticed that Elliot was looking around for me helplessly.
The man wasn't knocked out by Sarah's blow to the head, but was merely stunned, as he stood up, still brandishing a sword. Sherlock had ripped the shoe from the warlord to see the mark of 'The Black Lotus', as the man stumbled around, flailing his sword around. I stepped forward, pushing the warlord over from behind, before pulling Sherlock up and running towards the exit with him, as John and Sarah followed. I grabbed Elliot when I passed him and he quickly got the hint, running alongside us and the five of us left the theatre.

We went back to Baker Street, via the police station to talk to Dimmock. Elliot made sure I was okay, which I assured him I was, even though it was a small lie as my cheek had began to hurt badly, since the adrenaline had worn off, before he headed home for the night. My hair had covered my cheek, and no one had looked at me too closely, so no one had noticed it yet. I had decided to get John to look it over when we got to 221B Baker Street. I knew the gash wasn't that deep and that it wasn't anything John couldn't handle so I left it be for the time being.
We arrived Baker Street, Sarah still in our company, when John and Sherlock began to discuss the night's events. Sarah was about to leave when John told her she could stay, at the same time as Sherlock told her to leave. John assured her that it was fine for her to stay when she mentions something about being hungry. She goes to talk to Sherlock, when John left the room and bustled around the kitchen. I followed him through.
"John?" I called him through the pain in my cheek.
"Yeah?" He turned to face me. I had brushed my hair, which had blood on it, behind my ear, so that my bleeding cheek was visible. He noticed it and rushed over to me. "What happened?" He asked me, reaching up to touch the gash on my cheek. I winced when his hand met my cheek and flinched away.
"The guy caught me with his sword before we got into the auditorium." I explained as he grabbed the first aid box out of the cupboard. He came back and began working on the cut. He patched it up, and put some butterfly stitches on it. I thanked him with a hug and began to help him find some food.

Sarah points out two words that were already translated that we hadn't noticed. They read, "Nine" and "Mill". We began talking about the meaning when Sherlock jumped up and rushed out of the room. He shouted something about the book before he left. After a few moments I went to follow him, heading down the stairs when I was met by some people I didn't know. "Who are you?" I asked before they knocked me out.
