Ch. 6 - Is this a Game?
PearlescentMoon
“Any luck yet, Pearl?”
Pearl shook her head. Lizzie sighed and continued placing torches as they went further into the tunnel.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this unlucky when strip mining before,” Pearl muttered. “Seriously, where are all the ores?!”
“Should we-” Lizzie began, but got interrupted by the buzzing sound of the communicator. Pearl also heard it and stopped mining.
“What does it say?” Pearl asked when Lizzie looked at the communicator. “I forgot mine at our base.”
“Looks like Scar decided to kill Impulse out of the blue,” Lizzie told her.
“Doesn’t really sound like Scar. Maybe he was the Boogeyman?” Pearl suggested. Lizzie shrugged and got back to placing torches.
“Scott’s not gonna be happy, at least,” she commented. “I think he planned making an alliance with Impulse.”
“Impulse will probably forgive him though. This is a game, after all,” Pearl pointed out. Lizzie stopped placing torches and sent Pearl a confused glance.
“A game? Is this a game?” she repeated. Pearl quit mining and looked at her. Lizzie had a confused but still a serious expression, and Pearl realized that Lizzie told what she thought was the truth. Had she already forgotten? The message they got in the beginning clearly said ‘let the game begin’.
“Yes...?” Pearl said. “What else would it be? I mean, it’s not a game we wanted to participate in, but it’s still a game.”
“Yeah I guess...” Lizzie said quietly. Pearl decided to not think much about it and continued mining. She gave up after nearly two hours, having found nothing except some coal, iron and redstone. Exhausted after the almost uninterrupted mining session, she and Lizzie made their way back to the surface. They had spent the whole night underground, and all Pearl wanted to do now was to sleep. Luckily, the entrance to the mine was just behind their cottage, so they could easily get to safety without risking to get blown up by creepers or shot by skeletons.
What Pearl wasn’t expecting when she opened the door was a Scar sleeping in her bed, snoring loudly. She didn’t expect a chest with a sign saying “Borrowed your base for shelter, here’s a thank you gift” either. And she most definitely didn’t expect a diamond chestplate to be in that chest.
She and Lizzie exchanged glances, then Lizzie took a few steps forward and carefully poked on Scar to wake up. He woke up and quickly stood up, looking at Pearl and Lizzie in a surprised way.
“Oh- Pearl! Lizzie! I was just uh- leaving you a gift!” he exclaimed with a panicked voice. “I’ll leave now, cya!”
And with these words he rushed out of the base, leaving the girls confused.
“Honestly, that’s normal Scar behaviour when you think about it,” Pearl shrugged. “At least we got a free diamond chestplate, by the look of things.”
“Yup,” Lizzie nodded. “Do you want to try it on?”
Pearl shrugged and put it on. It was heavy, but it was beautiful. Blue and shiny. “How do I look?”
“Powerful. Should we keep it?” Lizzie wanted to know. “Or should we return it to Scar?”
“I honestly don’t care. It was a gift, after all,” Pearl stated. Lizzie agreed and that was that.
Let’s just not hope the diamond chestplate would cause some trouble...
