Chapter 2

"No Katie, he's not," Jamie said, worry etching her face.

Katie scowled. "He is too! Why can't you just trust me for once?"

"Because demons are crazy messed up pieces of horror! You should know this!"

"Not all demons! Wrath is good, I know he is."

"Something is seriously messed up with the demon inside you, okay? The exorcism didn't freaking work. That does not happen. Ever."

"It's not working because I'm keeping him in." said Katie, causing Jamie's mouth to gape in horror. "He hasn't done anything since he last escaped the underworld."

"It's literally in a demon's blood to hurt people! He'll give in eventually, and sooner rather than later."

"Yes, but remember what he said about me being in danger? He's protecting me."

"DUDE. You believed that? Insanity is not a sin, and you wouldn't be able to become a deadly sin, anyway. He lied. See? See how untrustworthy he is?"

"He's not! I--" Katie cut off as her gaze fell on the swirling mass of black smoke that had returned from the graveyard. Jamie threw herself in front of Katie. "Stay out of her!"

Katie shoved her friend out of the way just in time for Wrath to take over once more.

Jamie flew to Katie, who was now Wrath. "Katie?"

Wrath slowly stood, laughing quietly. "Ah, how good it feels to be in control again."

"DANG IT, WRATH! GET OUT OF HER. NOW."

"And has a demon ever listened to you cute little humans?"

"Yes, if said 'cute little human' is an experienced and very pissed off hunter," Jamie growled.

Wrath pulled out a knife and held it against his chest. "If you try anything, I'll kill her."

"AHH! Okay, chill. Chill."

"You will obey my commands, or my knife may..slip."

"Fine. Okay. What do you want me to do?"

"You must to allow me to possess you."

"Why do you need to possess me, exactly?"

"I believe I'm the one in charge here, don't you think?"

Jamie sighed, taking off her anti-possession necklace. "I hate demons."

Wrath threw Katie's head back and moved in black smoke from Katie's body to Jamie's.

With dark, black eyes, Wrath smiled. "Hello Katie."

Katie blinked, rubbing her head. "What happened? Why am I holding a knife? Um, Jamie? Why are your eyes creepy?"

"Wrath, here. Strange seeing me in someone else, isn't it? Now, see this gun here?" Wrath pulled a pistol out of Jamie's bag. "I'll shoot your little friend in the head if you don't do exactly as I say." Wrath ended with a maniacal grin. Katie gasped, and gave Wrath the kind of look that would have burned a hole in his head if he was human.

"You. Wouldn't. Dare." Katie growled.

"I would, though. Unless..you think there's still some good in me? Some humanity?" Wrath mimicked Katie with a high voice and laughed. Katie's face turned red with fury.

"I trusted you!" She screamed. "I defended you! I actually believed there was good in you, you slimy, low-lifed, murderous traitor!"

"Alrighty, enough small talk then. I want, briefly put, your soul. Or at least, Lilith does. She's got big plans for you, sweetheart," Wrath said with a cold smile. Katie's expression became increasingly murderous.

"Don't ever call me sweetheart," she growled. "Why me?"

"Ah, that's one of the many secrets that us demons will not tell to mortals with souls," Wrath said with an air of demonic superiority, before smirking and adding, "sweetheart." He lifted his hand, and Katie slammed into the wall behind her. "Hurry up on the decision there, sweetheart. My finger's getting twitchy." The malice in Katie's expression melted into fear.

"Okay, okay! I'm so, so sorry, Jamie. But..I'll do it." There was a pause. "Well, I would, if I knew how. How exactly does one go about selling souls?" Katie added awkwardly. Wrath sighed at how little the girl knew in comparison to her friend.

"Well, usually it's bound by a kiss. But..why not have a little fun? Let's do it the hard way. Meaning, I reach into your chest and pull it out." Katie tried to press herself further into the wall in fear, but was rendered immobile by Wrath's powers. "Don't worry, it won't bleed or even leave a scar, but I promise you..it will hurt. A lot." He leisurely strolled toward her while twirling the gun around his fingers.

"Okay, that is really gross."

"Ready, sweetheart? One..two..three." As Katie closed her eyes in preparation, Wrath stopped and grinned. Katie's eyes popped open.

"AHH! Not cool, bro!"

Just before Katie finished talking, Wrath smashed his fist into her heart, grabbing her soul while he reached around painfully in her lungs.

Ripping his fist out, Wrath smiled. "See you in a week." Katie fell to her knees as his grip on her released.

Wrath threw Jamie's head back and escaped once more in his black smoke. Jamie gasped and coughed on the floor.

"Ow, ow, ow, ow, that was unpleasant," Katie said, wincing.

Jamie blinked as her memories came flooding back. "Katie! Why would you do that?! You literally just insured yourself a one way trip to the underworld, you flipping idiot!"

"He was going to kill you! You let him possess you!"

"Okay, listen. There's no way I'm letting you go down there. Lilith holds all the souls. We just need to find her and kill her, or at least make her give them up, within a week."

"Well, if that's all," Katie said sarcastically, then sighed. "I'm doomed."

"NO, YOU'RE NOT. SHUT YOUR FOOLISH PIE HOLE."

"Yes, I am."

"No, you're not. Didn't you say you were close to finding something?"

"Uh, well, I thought she might be in Denver, but I wasn't really sure. I don't think-"

"Great! We're going to Denver."

"But-"

"If you have a better idea, please share."

Katie sighed. "Fine. Let's go. But I'm driving. You look like you're about to fall asleep."

Jamie shook her head. "Sorry girlie, but I don't trust you to not 'go to the beach for your dying days' or something incredibly cheesy like that. I'll drive. I'm-" Jamie stifled a yawn. "-totally awake."

Katie looked skeptical, but nodded in agreement. "Fine."

The friends exited the motel, packing quickly and shoving their belongings in the backseat of their ancient car. Jamie was walking to the driver's seat when two men passed by, one tall with long, light brown hair, and the other shorter with dark, spiky hair.

"Denver, huh?" Spiky said, pulling out his keys as he walked to an old-looking black car. This caught Jamie's attention, so she stalled in order to eavesdrop.

"Yep. All signs point to there," Giant said.

"I dunno, Sammy. How are we even going to waste her, anyway? We can't find the colt," Jamie looked guiltily at her coat pocket, where the gun was carefully stashed. "and she's obviously gonna be surrounded by boatloads of demons. Seems kind of like a suicide mission, if you ask me."

"It's our best shot, though," 'Sammy' said. "We gotta try."

With that the pair disappeared into their car. Jamie's eyes slowly widened and she leaped into the seat.

"What took you so long?" Katie asked, her computer already out.

"I..I found hunters."

Katie slammed down her computer lid. "Seriously? Where?"

Jamie gestured to the black car. "The one with the long hair is named Sammy. I kind of eavesdropped. Oops."

Katie eyed the hunters. "Where're they going?"

"Denver. They caught Lilith's trail too."

"Seriously? Let's team up with them! Strength in numbers, right?"

Jamie looked back at the two men. "I don't know. Usually hunters aren't super friendly." she started her car.

Or tried to. The engine rumbled to life, then sputtered out after a few seconds. "Crap," Jamie said. She tried five more times, with the same results.

"We could ask those two for a ride," Katie suggests tentatively.

Jamie looked for a third time at the two hunters, who were still arguing inside the car. She sighed, "Fine. It doesn't look like we have a choice, anyway."

The friends got out of their car and approached the black one. Katie knocked on the window of Sammy, who jumped, then slowly opened the door and got out of the car. Spiky did the same.

"Uh, who are you?" Sammy said slowly, looking warily between Jamie and Katie.

"I'm Katie Stratton, and this is Jamie Blackwood," Katie explained quickly so that the two hunters wouldn't think she was an enemy and open fire. "Our car broke down over there, and.." she looked at Jamie to explain.

"Well, we sort of overheard you were going to Denver," Jamie said. "And that you're looking for Lilith."

"How do you know about Lilith?" Spiky said with suspicion.

Sammy rolled his eyes slightly at his partner's hostility. "Dean, they're obviously hunters. Uh, hi, Katie and Jamie, I'm Sam Winchester, and this is my brother Dean Winchester. We're hunters too."

Katie looked around awkwardly. "Well, we're looking for Lilith too. Would you mind giving us a ride? We..kind of need to get there quickly."

Dean walked over to Sam's side. "Why?"

"When did you get so suspicious?" Sam muttered under his breath to Dean.

"Well..I kind of sort of maybe a little sold my soul to the deadly sin 'Wrath'. And..I may or may not have a week to live." Katie smiled uncomfortably.

"A week?" Dean cried. "That's the best you could do?!"

Before Katie could get defensive, Jamie cut in. "So, yeah. Could you guys give us a ride?"

Sam looked at Dean, then back at Jamie. "Sure, I guess."

"Thank you so much." The two girls jumped into the back seat of the black car.

"Nice car," Jamie commented.

"Thanks. She's my baby," Dean said, grinning.

Sam winced. "Dean."

Katie perked up. "Percabeth or Solangelo?"

Sam laughed. "Percabeth. Duh."

Dean looked between the two. "Perca-what?"

Jamie shook her head in exasperation. "It's Percy Jackson."

Katie continued. "But do you ship Solangelo, is the question."

Jamie looked at Katie with warning. "Please don't-"

"SHUT UP, I need to know if I can be friends with this guy!"

Sam grinned. "Yes, but not as much as Percabeth. I mean, come on..it's Percabeth."

"Yay, we can be friends!" Katie smiled and clapped her hands. "Yeah, I kind of have to agree with you. Percabeth has basically been religion since the first book."

Dean shook his head at his brother. "Sam, how do you have friends?"

"SHUT UP DEAN! This is the first intelligent conversation I've had with someone in over a month!"

Jamie laughed. "Ouch."

Katie turned to Sam and continued. "Did you realize that Percy proposed in the first book, though?"

"Woah, Katie. If you want me to read them don't go spoiling all over the place," Jamie said. Sam immediately turned to her.

"You haven't read Percy Jackson?!"

Jamie laughed. "You and Katie are literally the same person, gender and all." This gained her a high five from Dean.

Katie shook her head. "That was cold, dude."

Dean nodded. "Yeah, almost as cold as you'll be if we don't get moving. Lilith's not gonna wait for us, you know. She probably knows we're coming, anyway."

"Okay, then let's go!" Katie said enthusiastically. Dean started his beloved car and began driving towards Denver.

Katie continued in her mad fangirling frenzy. "And technically Grover proposed to her, too!"

Jamie cocked her head. "Why is a character from Sesame Street in Percy Jackson?"

Sam slowly shook his head. "That's it. I'm not talking to you anymore."

Dean looked back at Katie. "So what'd you sell your soul for, anyway?"

"I sold it to save this one's life," Katie said, gesturing to Jamie. "Wrath, like one of the seven deadly sins, took it. And..now I have no soul I guess."

Dean sighed. "Well that's just..peachy."
