Chapter Thirty-Six

Tony sat in his lab, working on a new suit for Peter Parker. It was going to be nanotechnology, just like his own new suit. He was currently working on the web shooters and how they would house the web while also being nanotech. It was a weird area of unknown but he was having fun figuring it out.

"Mr. Stark," FRIDAY suddenly spoke through the ceiling. Weird, she rarely spoke without being prompted.

Tony set his stuff down. "What's up?"

"I've lost Miss Silva."

Well that was a phrase that would certainly put anyone into a panic, and it did just that to Tony. The stool scraped on the ground as he stood up, getting his stuff together so he could leave the compound. "What the hell do you mean you lost her? How did you manage that?"

"She was at the Bleecker Street address she requested I direct her to, then Norway, then she disappeared from my scanners. I can't locate her at all, not even through other technology," she answered, now in his ear. "She was in the middle of speaking when she disappeared. Miss Silva also mentioned something about Thor."

Tony physically reacted to that name, now extremely confused at the God who said he was on the hunt for the Infinity Stones. "Thor? The hell is he doing back on Earth?" he asked rhetorically, knowing FRIDAY wouldn't exactly have an answer otherwise he'd know by now.

"Where was she heading before she wound up in Norway?" Tony asked, now seated in one of his favorite sports cars. FRIDAY, rather than answering, turned the car on and Tony saw an address already plugged in on the screen. "Let's go."

Stephen Strange was waiting impatiently for Rey to show up when there was a pounding on the Sanctum doors. He was so wrapped up in his thoughts, he wasn't even paying attention to the door. With a wave of his hand, the person was transported inside.

He was expecting Rey, so when an angry billionaire came up into his face, he was surprised to say the least.

"Where the hell is Rey? What did you do to her?" Tony interrogated, not allowing Strange to think for even a second after letting him in.

Stephen shook his head and took a step back. "I'm sorry? I-I'm a little lost here," he answered.

"What a shitty answer, try again," Tony responded. So many people wanted Rey in prison. So many. If any of them got to her before Tony could help... well, he didn't think he'd ever be able to forgive himself. "What did you do to her?"

Stephen looked confused. "I've been waiting for her here. I haven't seen her in about two weeks since we first talked about everything- which, I'm assuming at this point that she's filled you in?"

Tony nodded. "But she did show up," he started. "The motorcycle she's claimed as her own is outside. FRIDAY is telling me she was here then she got magically transported to Norway for some damn reason." His temper was short and patience nonexistent.

Now Stephen was even more confused. "Norway? What..." The words faded as realization finally struck. His face fell and horror came upon it.

This didn't make Tony feel any better about the entire situation. "Why- why are you making that face? That's not a good face," he said, panicky.

Stephen sighed. "I think I know what happened. Not long after I sent Rey the message for her to meet me here, I noticed Thor and his brother, Loki, were on Earth. Loki is on my list of threats to Earth so I quickly took care of him and then brought Thor here to see what they were doing in New York- well, Earth in general."

Tony shook his head and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Wonderful story and all, but what does this have to do with Rey?" he asked, cutting Strange off.

This made the other man glare. "Well, if you let me finish then you'd understand." Tony rolled his eyes but stayed quiet. "As I was saying, Thor came and said he was looking for his dad, who was in Norway. So after retrieving Loki, I sent them through a portal to Norway. I bet Rey came in and got sent through as well without me realizing."

Tony let out a harsh breath of air and let out a humorless laugh. "You're kidding, right? You just... 'accidentally' sent her through a portal to fucking Norway? This has to be an elaborate joke of some kind because there's no way you could be that idiotic."

If the air wasn't tense before, then it certainly was now. "Look, you are not about to come into my sanctum and criticize me. I was dealing with a very angry god and his brother, trying to get them off Earth as soon as possible because they are threats that I am responsible for watching."

"Yet somehow you let Rey get caught in it! I don't trust Loki either, I fought the son of a bitch and he gave me the creeps- he's not a good guy, so I'm not thrilled at the fact that he's going to be around Rey in any situation," Tony said through gritted teeth.

Stranger shook his head. "You're awfully protective of her. She's an adult who can make her own decisions," he shot back.

This had Tony fuming. "Yes, she's an adult, an adult who hasn't had anything normal in her life. I know her a lot more than you do and I know that she still needs help before she can function completely on her own. Growing up in Hydra doesn't exactly prepare someone for social situation where you aren't intending to assassinate anyone.

"And I'm protective because I know that almost every government in the world wants to see her behind bars or dead, and there's this human part of me who would rather not see that. So yeah, I'm gonna be a little protective!" Tony yelled back. Veins were popping out of his forehead and neck to the point where FRIDAY had to quietly remind him in his ear that his blood pressure was rising a bit too rapidly.

The two men stood in a silence for a moment before Stephen finally spoke. "Okay, look, we obviously don't like each other. At all. But we need to figure out if we can find Rey or not." Tony nodded in agreement. "Let's check Norway."

"FRIDAY's already told me she can no longer detect Rey there, but be my guest." Strange sent him a glare then used the sling ring to create a portal to the grassy cliffside he sent the two gods to.

He stepped through, followed by a cautious Tony. They looked around for a moment, but found no signs of life. The grass barely looked disturbed. "Damn it," Tony mumbled, and went back through the portal. Strange followed in suit.

"My guess is they went off-world and somehow Rey went with them. Whether she went on her own accord or not, I'm not sure," Strange said.

Tony scoffed. "Off-world? To another planet, like Asgard where Thor is from? Or some other one out there? Jesus," he mumbled the last bit, putting a hand on his forehead to try and push away the headache forming.

"That's my only explanation, especially if you little AI friend can't find her," Stephen added.

"Can't you use your little... magic hand gesture things to find her?" Tony asked, trying to mimic the hand gestures, low-key offending Stephen. "Isn't there a way for you to just think of her and make a portal wherever she ended up?"

Strange rolled his eyes, annoyed at the fact that, technically, Tony was right. "I can try that," he said, keeping the uglier comments to himself. Getting back in the same stance he was just in, he thought long and hard about Rey to find her location. After a second, he started doing his circle to create the portal.

But it didn't work. It kept starting, but would immediately fizz out. This happened several times. After about the fifth, Stephen dropped his hands and let out a frustrated sigh. "Where ever she is, somehow I'm unable to find her," he said. "It is possible wherever she ended up that time works differently and she's moving too fast for me to find her in one spot."

Tony sighed, crossing his arms for a second then moving one hand up in a fist shape on his mouth as he thought. He thought about how much danger Rey really could be in and if she was okay. She was powerful, there were no doubts there, but mentally... she's been through too much to be easily transported to a completely different planet.

The men were silent, scared to speak and confirm the truth: they had no way of getting Rey back, not now. Tony didn't have anything ready for space travel yet and Strange had no idea what planet she was on so he could make a portal to the planet itself.

Two of the most brilliant minds in the United States- the world- were at a loss for solutions. "How am I gonna tell the kid?" Tony questioned himself quietly. He was in front of a bench, so he sat down and let his hands cover his face.

Strange thought about the book on his desk, open to the page where the spell started. "I found a spell," He suddenly said, breaking the silence. Tony looked up at him but Stephen stared ahead. "It was a long shot, something I would ask her a hundred times if she wanted to do it. But the spell could make her forget- literally pull certain memories and reactions out of her head. If I couldn't make it work on her abilities, it would at least work for the trigger words."

Tony got even more upset, remembering how excited Rey was when she came bursting into his lab, nearly giving his a heart attack. She was so sure, and she was right. Well, partially. Possibly. It was the chance she had been waiting for and now she doesn't get it.

He felt tears well up in his eyes but didn't dare let them fall, not in front of Stephen Strange, someone who's ego rivaled his own.

Tony stood up and looked at Strange, who had looked over at him with the sudden movement. "I'm going back... I gotta go. There are people I gotta inform... god, the kid," Tony mumbled the last bit again. He really didn't know how he'd tell Parker about this. The kid came to look up to Rey because she was was just so cool to him. Tony didn't know how he'd tell him.

Stephen nodded, understanding this was hard for Tony and others in Rey's life. "Of course. I'll let you know if anything develops," he said. Tony nodded, not bothering to ask how Strange would contact him, and left the building.

Everything felt weird in Tony's mind, but he managed to get in his car and close the door. He placed his forehead on the steering wheel and let out a shaky breath. She didn't deserve this.

Tony lifted his head back up and leaned back in the seat, letting his head hit the headrest. "Please, Thor, keep her safe," he said to the empty car. All Tony had now was hope and he hated it. He hated it a lot.

A/n: I thought it would be good to include this perspective so we can see how many people care about Rey and such. I feel like Tony gives dad/mentor vibes? Idk but something like that.
