Darkness, a cold and empty presence
was forgotten by those who live in the light
Yet Darkness was well acquainted with us- who linger in the night
Our screams trapped by shadows, echoing- in our ears

We sit in silence, watching and wishing the-suffering would cease
Agony, torment, pain, anguish, despair
Once joyful hearts shattered beyond compare
Smiles replaced with grief and laughter-replaced by shrieks

The light left another heart behind as an-unfamiliar face wandered into the shadows
The Darkness welcomed him like an old friend
To a place where suffering knows no end
An endless abyss of sorrow and tears

With his sense of purpose withered, the boy-fled from the light
He ran into the arms of Darkness
And Darkness held him with a cold, yet-reassuring embrace
As he wiped the tears off of his pain-filled face

The boy sat next to Darkness and wondered-why he felt so empty
Darkness merely assured him he wasn't alone
He too had felt that pain and had been lonely
The boy looked back at Darkness and smiled- slowly

"Why is it that we suffer here?" The boy asked
"Well, it's because we've been broken and cast- aside"
Just as Darkness had been thrown out by Light
"I'm just glad I won't be alone tonight"

"You've been here too long"said Darkness-sadly
"I know you shouldn't stay here, but I wish- you would quite badly."
The boy understood why he had to leave when he felt the beating return to his broken heart
He replied softly,"I know I can't stay here, this would tear me apart"

Darkness looked up at him once again
"My real name is Depression and I'm sorry you had to meet me."
The boy looked back, appearing much older than when he arrived years ago
"I'm glad I met you, I'm stronger because of our time together"
