38| Trelawney Leaves

I came back to my dorm, to find a small package. It had a bar of chocolate, and few smaller candy inside it; a note attached.

To make up for the failed date of yesterday :)
- T.W

I smiled, and kept them in my drawer, and changed out of uniform into a pair of blue jeans, and brown full sleeve shirt which had loose sleeves. I went downstairs to the common room, and laid down my books and parchment, so that I could get as much work done as possible before my detention.

I looked at the clock 2 hours later, and it was time. So I hesitantly got out the common room. I went to Umbridge's office, and pushed open the door. There in a chair, sat a Slytherin. His grey eyes scanned the words that he was reading. I closed the door behind me, and his eyes left the book.

"Oh. It's you." he said unenthusiastically. "It's not like I love being here too? So what's my detention?" I asked.

"Professor kept some folders over there. You have to arrange them my date, and alphabetical order, without magic."

"Shouldn't be that hard." I said, and turned around. There were about 20 thick box files. "Have fun!" said Malfoy, and got back to his reading.

The files consisted of student records and stuff. It was boring, but I had to get it done. In about 2 hours, I had completed it; mostly because the handwriting was not that good, and it was hard to read.

I went back to my dorm, later. I was tired, but still did my work, and crashed on my bed.

-----

A few days passed, and the issue of the Quibbler with Harry's interview had been released. The previous day, I had Sirius about the charm they used on the marauders map, so that it opened at the password. He sent me a reply, and I had asked this because I had a plan.

I was distributing quibblers to anyone who wanted it (except for the Inquisitorial Squad members, who would snitch on me). Terrance was at a corner, sitting on a window ledge and reading the book that I gotten him on Valentine's Day.

"Ms. Smith, what are you doing?" asked an unpleasant voice. "Giving out free notebooks Professor." I said.

Terrance got up and come next to me, when he heard Umbridge's voice. "I heard that certain lies are being distributed around the school, regarding Potter. And you seem like one of those who would spread it." she said.

"Absolutely not professor. I would not spread lies. Never." I said, and hoped that she did not notice the mocking behind it. "Can I see one of them then?" she asked, and stretched out her hand.

"Yes Professor." I answered and handed out a book. She opened it and found that it was indeed just plain pages inside. She handed it back and went somewhere else, without a word.

"How? Where did the words go?" asked Terrance.

"I asked Sirius for the charm. It's like a password. When a student asks, I give it saying a 'yes you may' which makes the writing appear. When I say 'yes professor' the words disappear. The only person that I will be calling professor today, is that pink toad."

"That's a great idea!" said Terrance.

I was just gave out the last copy I had, when there was tap on my shoulder. "May I talk to you for a sec?" asked Annalise. Her hair was tied up, and two strands were let loose; allowing it to detail her face. Her green eyes popped a bit due to the sunshine hitting her face.

"Sure Ann." I said, and looked over at Terrance, and he gave me a nod; his mind going back to the book in his hand.

We walked outside, and sat near the black lake. It was where I always sat, and talked. '"What is it Anne?"

"Um.. You see? Nicole and I have been going out lately, but- I just don't think it will work."

"Isn't she nice? She's really beautiful too."

"The thing is. It is one-sided. I just don't like her the same way. I wanna tell her that, but what if I hurt her feelings? She's really nice to me, I don't wanna make her down."

"Why don't you just tell her why too?"

"I like someone else. She's beautiful. She's always there for me, and I had a crush on her forever."

"I'm sure Nicole will be fine. Just try telling her."

"What if she asks who it is or something?"

"Just tell her. And after that maybe. Just maybe, you can go and ask the girl you like if she wants to go to Hogsmede with you." I suggested.

"I'll do the former, not the latter. I don't even think she likes me that way. Does she even like girls?"

I just shrugged.

"Do you?" she asked.

"Do what?" I asked.

"Like girls?"

"Umm.. Fine. Yes I do. I think I might be bi. But.... Just don't tell anyone ya? You are the only one I said this to. I'll tell them when I'm sure and ready to."

"Don't worry. I'll keep it. But telling to others does take off a huge weight from our shoulders."

I nodded appreciatively.

-------

The days went by quick and slow; even though that is not technically possible. The days almost seemed to merge together. Harry was often seen disturbed by all the visions that he was having.

And the day came, which I had forgot about. I knew it would happen, but I had forgotten when. I was leaving after my class, when I saw a large group of students  crowded around in the courtyard. Sobbing was heard, and Umbridge told someone to leave.

Sybill Trelawney. Umbridge told everyone to go back to their classes, and the students slowly started leaving. The rest of the teachers were visibly sad, by the departure of their dear friend. Trelawney gave one last look at the magnificent castle, and then slowly and shakingly started treading out the gates of Hogwarts.

I had to do something right? She never left in the original timeline; Dumbledore was there. As she left, I could see a man entering the gates of Hogwarts. From his attire, I could make out that he was from the ministry. He had a suitcase in his hand, and came to me. "Good Afternoon, could I know how to go to Professor Umbridge's office?" asked the man. He looked a bit old, maybe in his 40s. "Umm... Through that door, the first left and then a right. If you go straight, you'll see a door sir." I said. He nodded and left.

That should be the new Divination teacher. Firenze won't come, I remembered. I rushed out the gates, hoping that Trelawney had not got far. I rushed to Hogsmede, and found her about to enter the Knight Bus. "Professor Trelawney!" I half-screamed.

"I'm no longer a professor. And I shall find a job elsewhere." she said. "Look you can stay at the school. Dumbledore will be back, and you'll soon be the divination teacher again." I said.

"Are ya getting on or nah?" asked Stan Shunpike. "Ye-" started Trelawney, but I cut her of with a no. He rolled his eyes, and the bus zoomed out of sight.

"Look child, don't give out promises you can't fulfill. No one knows where Dumbledore is." she said.

"I'm giving a promise that I can fulfill. Just trust me. Hogwarts is you home; our home. Don't you think Umbridge is an intruder over here? Someone who came and destroyed the peace at Hogwarts?" I asked.

"Yes. Yes she did I suppose. She just kicked me out of my only home."

"See? And do we just let intruders kick us out? No!" I said. I guess all the talking helped, because she finally agreed. "Great! Just stay at Hog's Head Inn. I'll come by at 9 and I'll sneak you in to the castle. You'll stay in the Room of Requirements, and I'll make sure that there are no loopholes, so that only I can get in." I explained the plan. She nodded.

I took some of her stuff, and went back to the castle. I kept the things in the Room of Requirements, and waited for the night to come. But before that, I needed to make the room, fool proof. And so consulted two of the biggest smarties I know; Terrance and Hermione.

--------

I told them why I was doing this, and they agreed. Though Terrance was quick to understand, it took some time to convince Hermione. We quickly made a way to ask the Room for a secluded room, with some facilities like a bed, a desk, washroom etc. , without a loophole. Don't know how long it will last. But it should for sometime right?

That night I sneaked out the castle (with the help of Fred and George) and went to Hog's Head Inn. We sneaked back Trelawney back into the castle, which was harder then we thought because of all the Inquisitorial Squad members.

I waved a good-bye to her and then the three of us, went back the common room.

I laid in bed; my eyes wide open. I could hear Katie's small snores, and the moonlight shone in through the small opening in the curtains. I think it was about 12 am, but I couldn't sleep. Did Firenze no arriving have any concequence? I thought hard; trying to recollect all that I had read 2-3 years before in the Order of the Phoenix book.

My mind soon shifted to different things that I had to achieve; the faces of people I had to save. Sirius, Dobby, Hedwig, Nympahdora, Remus, Fred, Mad Eye, were the first to come in my mind.

I thought of the trick that my dad had taught me when I couldn't sleep. Counting. I closed my eyes, and counted; starting from one. As the image of the number formed in my mind, I found myself slowly floating to sleep.
