A Lost boy found

Warning: Cursing, but it's censored, still a more cursing than usual. And yelling. Lots of yelling. And definitely some dark thoughts. Self-esteem issues out the wazoo.

Rem woke up to someone banging loudly on his hotel room door. Without thinking, he got up and opened it, to find his soulmate on the other side.

"Virgil?" Rem gasped, attempting to closer the door, but the taller held it open.

"Rem, what in the world are you doing?" The emo came in, closing the door behind him.

The dull brunette tried to stay silent, only to be bested by the soulmate bond. "Running away."

He begged the universe for Virgil to just leave right then. But Rem had decided that there was no god a second later, when Virgil balled his hands into fist.

"Why, the f*ck, would you do that?" Virgil snapped, before pulling back. He took a deep breath before asking much quieter, "Is it because you hate me?"

"No. I don't hate you, sweetheart. I just- I realized you don't need me." Rem pushed his sunglasses on, adverting his gaze.

"What?" Virgil practically shouted.

"You don't need me. I'm not "important to your happiness" and you aren't to mine. We've both been happy before any of this soulmate bullsh*t started happening! We aren't needed for happiness." The man in sunglasses explained.

Virgil didn't need him. Rem was a waste of space. And they could both be happy without the other. Rem didn't need Virgil either.

"So?" Virgil furrowed his brows, gesturing with his hands. "What does it matter? I'm not important to their happiness, but they still keep me around. Logan, Roman, Patton, I don't matter. But, I don't just get up one day and say, "I feel like giving everyone who gives a sh*t about me a heart attack!" What were you thinking?"

No one "gave a sh*t about him." Virgil was just here because that's what you were supposed to do. Virgil was going to give up in a minute, go home, and celebrate with the others. Just like Rem would with his friends! No, that's a lie. It'd take a week to get over this, then Rem would be perfectly happy, hopefully.

Rem hated the fact the bond made him answer, "So, why keep me around? Why keep me around if I'm not going to make you happy? If I'm never going to make you smile like you do around them? I just wanted out before all of you dumped me on the curb."

"Because I'm in love with you! That's how soulmates work!" Virgil pulled his hands through his hair.

"Well, I'm not in love with you!" Rem shouted back, regretting it as soon as he said it.

"What?" Virgil glared at the other.

Maybe Virgil wasn't just here to say that he tried. But he would definitely leave after Rem confessed that he didn't love his one and only soulmate. Virgil would hate him and leave him.

"I'm not in love with you. I should have felt something for you by now. But, I haven't felt a thing! I haven't had the same feelings towards you as I have P-" Rem cut himself off, looking to the ground. "Other people I've dated. I don't feel anything for you." Silence hung heavy on them, until Virgil broke it.

"You've got to be kidding me." Virgil ran his hand over his face, before sighing and shouting, "Rem, that's not how soulmates working, you f*cking idiot! I didn't just look at Patton and go, "I would die and suffer in hell for all eternity for you!" It took me ten years to fall in love with any of them! And now you expect to go love-crazy in a week? This isn't a high school movie!"

"I fell in love with Patton in a week!" Rem shouted back. "If I fall for someone else faster than my soulmate, then something's wrong."

How could some normal person fall in love with someone other than their soulmate faster than they did for the person they were destined to be with?

"No! No, there's not! Because guess what, b*tch; Logan fell in love with Roman first!" Virgil's smile was manic with anger. "And it's Patton! I was suprised you didn't fall in love with him at first glance!"

Virgil had a point, but Rem still wouldn't let his walls down and accept the love he was promised. Because how could Virgil give him all of that?

"But you'll never love me like you do them! I'll always be this valley boy who came into your lives and now just sits there while you all do something together! I'm the odd one out! You all smile and laugh and are so comfortable around each other! You jumped when I said a word! You never wanted to be a part of our conversation! Sweetheart, you never wanted me as a soulmate!"

"I never wanted any of them as my soulmate! I never looked at them and wanted them to only tell me the truth! I never wanted anyone to be stuck with some b*tch with no talent like me! But guess f*cking what! Here we are, meant to be together!" Virgil stomped his foot on the ground. "And I didn't just meet them and feel safe! I have anxiety! Wait for once in your life!"

"Then what? We'll try to have our own time? You have three other boyfriends, you'll never have time for me!"

"I can spend time with more than one of you at once! And you'll also have Patton! Just think for a second!" Virgil screamed at his soulmate.

Rem felt dread in his stomach as he started to see how Virgil was right. Why couldn't he just accept the fairytale ending he was promised? Because fairytales aren't real. Rem had hurt all of them and there was no way they were going to come back from what he's done. So why even try when he could just push them away and ignore it.

"Why did you even come all the way up here? I'm a narcissistic bastard who almost got your boyfriend killed!"

"Is that what this is about? That was dumb, yeah, but it was a mistake! Doing this isn't going to make it better! But coming back will!"

No, it wouldn't. Rem knew that. But a part of his mind was telling him to try. To just be humble and apologize, accept everything the group had to offer and stop acting like some bratty kid. Rem never could listen to himself.

"It's about all of this, the fact you've been with the others so long, not falling in love with you, and the mistake! Why do you even like me?"

"I have no f*cking clue! Maybe because I seem to be attracted to clueless morons!"

"Why did you follow me? You could have ignored it and we would have all been happy, living our normal lives."

"Because you are my normal life now! You can't just come into my life, steal my heart, then walk back out! I wouldn't be happy, and you wouldn't either! Why won't you just come home?" Virgil's voice tore it's self to shreds as tears poured down his pale face.

And Rem wanted to make himself resemble that sound visually when he saw Virgil start crying. He made that happen, again. Why couldn't he just stop messing up? If he just left, Virgil would never look that way because of him again.

"You all are so nice, then some c*nt comes in and messes everything up! I gave you a f*cking anxiety attack." Rem's face was becoming covered in tears coming from behind his sunglasses, as he made himself as small as possible. "A soulmate is supposed to make you happy, and I gave you a f*cking anxiety attack. Why don't you hate me? This would have been so much better if you hated me."

Why wouldn't Virgil just leave? Rem wasn't worth it. He hurt everyone, and yet, here was Virgil, trying to bring his *ss back. God, what had Rem done? He had one of the most forgiving soulmates in existence, and here he was being a b*tch.

He shouldn't have met Virgil. He shouldn't have asked for his number when it was obvious the other was intent on not meeting again. He should have taken the opportunity to leave then.

"I had an panic attack because I thought you and Patton were dead! This is the opposite of helpful with my anxiety! It wasn't your fault entirely, Patton didn't go back either." Virgil started to approach the other, who was sobbing.

Virgil took one of Rem's hands, just holding it for a minute. The emo wiped the other's tears away uselessly. More just came back to replace the others.

What was Virgil doing? He was staring at his soulmate that tried to run away, wiping the tears off his disgusting face. Why was Rem crying? Virgil's the one that's been hurt, not him. Sure, Virgil was crying softly, but the smaller was full on sobbing.

What was he doing? Virgil wanted him. Virgil was doing everything in his power to get Rem home. Virgil had dismissed most of the reasons Rem had displayed for why he left. And the emo still wanted to bring Rem back in his lowest moment.

"Rem, you don't have to make me happy all the time. I wouldn't be human if I was happy twenty-four seven."

"You'd be a game show host." Rem tried to smile, just resulting in more tears pouring down from his coal eyes.

"Are you okay?" Virgil's voice came down from the shouting match, and he tightened his grip on Rem's hand, his eyebrows suddenly going back to where they would usually sit, not furrowed from rage.

"No. I'm sorry." Rem sniffled, wiping away the liquid left from crying. "F*ck, why am I crying?" The coffee lover disconnected their hands and took off his sunglasses to furiously rub at his eyes. Virgil pulled the other's hands back, the sunglasses still clutched tight, so they wouldn't fall.

"I don't know. Calm down, tell me what's wrong." Virgil whispered.

"I'm being so horrible to you. Why do you even care about what happens to me?" The tears were making a small return as trials on Rem's face.

"Because I care about you. You're... Important to me."

"Why? I just gave you an anxiety attack, and then I f*cking leave. Like, that's the worst thing I could have done! Why do I never think anything through? Why am I such a b*tch?"

"I don't know about the other two, but I care about you because I've gotten close to you. And you care about me." Virgil played with the brunette's soft hand, his mouth becoming a thin line.

Virgil took a breath, before looking Rem in the eyes. Rem braced for everything Virgil could possibly say to him.

"Stop beating yourself up."

Apparently most things Virgil could possibly say.

"What?" Rem called out, though he heard the words loud and clear.

"I'm emo and I don't even think those things to myself, at least not when I'm in a good place." Virgil adverted his eyes, before furrowing his brows again. "Do you usually think like that?"

"No. Sometimes, but usually not. You don't have to worry about me offing myself." Rem chuckled faintly through his sobs.

"The only reason I'm not concerned about that now is the fact you can't lie to me. But, do you want to come back home?" Virgil stared deep into Rem's eyes, unable to get any read on them.

"Yes." Rem didn't even get the chance to think about it before the soulmate bond made him speak. He didn't want to go without Virgil, now. He didn't want to leave the others anymore. He wanted to go to their place and hang out with everyone. Watch Steven Universe while eating cookies, pet some dogs, and maybe cuddle.

"Now?"

"No. I- I want to lay down for a bit." He directed his eyes to the ground. "Did you get enough sleep last night?"

"Seven hours."

"Want to, like, sleep?" Rem asked, glancing up to check Virgil's expression.

"Sure. Let me tell the others that I'm okay." Virgil sighed, pulling away. Virgil took out a black phone, then began speaking into it, a cheerful voice on the other side.

After two minutes, Virgil hung up, and Rem was on the side of the bed, curled up in cover. Virgil got in, laying on the complete opposite side of the bed.

Rem tried to sleep, but though he was tired, and he should be able to get to sleep, he couldn't drift off, and he wanted something to hold. Well, Virgil was on the other side of the bed.

Come on, Rem had just gotten done sobbing, like Virgil would like to snuggle with that.

But Virgil was being so nice.

And he'd make Virgil uncomfortable by using pity to get cuddles.

Rem tried to ignore what he was thinking and scooted closer to Virgil. "Hey, Verge."

"Yeah?"

"Hold me." Rem smirked, throwing caution to the wind. Virgil blushed very brightly, confusion clear on his face.

"You sure?"

"Yeah..." Rem's smile fell suddenly.

"Get over here." Virgil rolled his eyes, wrapping his arms around Rem's stomach. They both laid in the fetal position, close to eachother.

"Good?" Virgil mumbled.

"Very." Rem sighed.

It felt nice. Being surrounded by someone who could protect him. Being with his soulmate. One of the kindest people he knew.

A man with dull green eyes that matched well with the purple he always wore. The person that put everyone's needs before his own. Virgil was kind, even though he dressed like an emo. Virgil would always be there with him to rein him in. And Patton would be there to help them lure Virgil out of the dark. And maybe Patton could get them both out of there.

Virgil and Patton were two sides to the same coin. Maybe that's why Rem was falling for both of them. Both? Virgil's lips looked really kissable right now, and he was really soft. Yeah, Rem's fallen for his soulmate and his soulmate's soulmate. He was in love with both of them.

At this moment, Rem could only think of one phrase to describe how he was feeling:

F*ck yeah.
