The Battter proceeds through the Smoke Mines, his power grows with each spectre he slays. However, he knows he's far behind the imposter, and without Add Ons, he needs to rely on his own strength. He also has to use what he finds, as Zachrie is not interested in selling him items.

The Batter reaches the end of the Smoke Mines. He remembers what's next. Dedan. Guardian of Zone 1, the first boss. The Batter decides it best to beat the imposter to the punch and kill Dedan himself. With the next card in the Batter's hands, the imposter will be unable to reach Zone 2 and steal the Add On there that is rightfully the Batter's.

The Batter enters the meat fountains. The burnt are already dead. No, they are purified. The Batter notices the way to Dedan's office is open. He through the maze, desperate to beat the imposter.

When he arrives, he sees the imposter and Dedan fighting each other. The Batter finds himself choosing from the lesser of two evils.

Does he side with a demented purification incarnation? Does he side with a cold, uncaring bastard of a leader who is harsh to his zone?

The Batter recalls another phrase. "Have you filled your life with beauty?" A voice asks.

The Batter clears his mind, and joins Dedan.

"What the hell?" Dedan demands.

"It matters not," the Batter replies, "I have chosen to assist you. Help me purify this monster Deden."

"You are a spectre!" Dedan exclaims, "I don't understand."

"Nor do I," The Batter sighs, "just accept it."

"Very well then," Dedan replies.

The imposter uses Wide Angle.

Dedan attacks Alpha with Minute Hand. The imposter tries to Save First Base, healing Alpha's wound. The Batter tries to Run With Grace, striking Alpha hard. Alpha hits Dedan with an Awaited Embrace, poisoning him.

The sound of a Fake Orcestra rings through the air, growing more quiet as the poison wears Dedan down.

"I must ask," Dedan explains, "before I die. Are you him?"

"I can't answer that," the Batter replies, "as you will not die today."

The Batter tries to Save First Base, healing Dedan's wounds.

"Then I will answer," the imposter replies, "I am him, the one made by Hugo. I know not whom this imposter is, but it matters not, for soon, he shall be purified."

The imposter strikes with a Furious Home Run.

"Damn," Dedan mumbles, "he's to strong. Listien, I don't know if you're more trustworthy than him, but, I don't have a choice. Take this."

Dedan gives the Batter a Cow Metal Bat, a powerful weapon on par with the best in Zachrie's stock and a Cancer-card.

"Warn Japhet," Dedan replies, "please..."

A tear goes down Dedan's weird face.

"Don't..." he gasps as purification overtakes him, "Don't let this monster hurt that innocent child..."

Dedan is purified.

"This land is now pure," the imposter explains, taking a Cancer-card from Dedan's corpse.

"Good luck surviving to reach the next," the imposter smirks, "impure one."

The imposter disappears. The world goes white, silent, dead. The land is pure. The Batter doesn't feel the sense of serenity he felt last time. Dedan's words echo in his mind. Could... could he, instead of escaping his purpose, replace it?

He pushes his abstract hope aside. Escaping his purpose is impossible. For now though, he has to get to Zone 2. As in this pure world he is... Not Safe.
