Chapter Twenty-One: He's My True Mate

*******Namjoon's POV*******

I took a deep breath and knocked on the door to the temporary office my C.O. was using while we were at Camp Humphreys.

"Come in," a voice called.

I opened the door and walked into the small office, giving him a salute, then a bow. "Sir, I was hoping that I could talk to you about something."

"Of course," he said, gesturing to a chair in front of his desk. "Have a seat."

I sat down, then looked at him, when he nodded for me to start, I took another deep breath before I did.

"Sir, I was wondering what process I have to go through to make sure that I don't get separated from my mate."

His eyes widened as he stared at me. "You found your mate?"

I nodded my head once at him. "I have." I reached up and pulled down the collar of my uniform, showing him my neck.

"And you let her mark you?" He asked, even more surprised now than he was before. "That's very...modern of you."

"Well...I let him mark me, sir," I told him. There's no reason to lie about it, despite how backwards my country is about same-gender relationships.

"Your mate is a man?" he asked. I was starting to think his eyebrows might be stuck in that Seemingly-permanent surprised arch.

"He is, sir."

"That might cause some problems," he told me. "You understand that, right?"

"Sir, with respect, I can not control who my mate is," I reminded him. "You're a werewolf, you know how this works. He has always been my mate. In every lifetime. And even if I could control it, I think that I would still pick him."

"Have you always been...."

"Gay, sir?" I asked, not in the mindset to beat around the bush.

"Yes," he said. "That."

"No, sir, I have not," I told him. "I have always been into women. I was shocked when I learned that my mate was a man."

"Then are you certain that he's actually your mate?" He asked me. He had his elbows on his desk and his fingers pressed together to form a triangle.

"I am, sir," I told him. "He's my True Mate."

"Well then," he said. He reached for his laptop and started typing on it. "Which unit is he in? I will see what I can do about getting him transferred to our base. Though, as you know, the fact that he's another man will not go over well. But, hopefully, being who you are and all, it will make it easier. Now, what does he do?"

"He's a doctor, sir," I told him.

"Oh, very nice," he said with a smile. "At what base? I assume it's not ours, since you have not come to speak to me about this sooner."

"This base, sir."

His eyebrows shot up again as he stared at me. "This one? Then he's..."

I nodded my head. "He's American, sir."

"Well that does present another small problem, now doesn't it?" He asked. "I can not control what the US does with their doctors, Specialist Kim."

"I know that, sir," I told him. "But I was hoping you could talk to them and see what could be done. Isaac and I have already mated and marked each other. You know how bad it can be if a wolf is split from their mate after that."

He nodded to me and started typing again. "I do know. My sister almost died when her mate had to enlist. And this was back before the government knew about us, so it wasn't as easy as it can be now."

"How did they get around it?" I asked out of curiosity.

"Uhhh....she enlisted, too," he told me. "And she's made a career out of it ever since. She's actually the one that I am emailing right now. She's become a sort of liaison for our kind, helping soldiers get settled into military life in a way that won't affect their mates. She's the one who helped your bandmate, Park Jimin."

"Sounds like we needed someone like her," I told him.

He looked up at me and gave me a small smile, which is a big deal. I don't think that I have ever seen him smile.

"We did, indeed, Specialist Kim," he told me as he pushed a pen and a piece of paper towards me. "Write down whatever you know about him, his deployment, how long he has been here, and if you can find out who he answers to, send me a text, okay? It will help."

I wrote down everything that I knew from what Isaac had told me, then sent him a text for what I didn't. He answered me right away, so I added that information to the bottom, then handed it back.

"I can't make you any promises right now," he told me. "But I will see what I can do."

I stood up and bowed to him. "Thank you, sir. Truly."

He nodded once as a way of dismissing me, then went back to his laptop as I walked out of his office.
