Chapter Twenty-Nine: Mate Gone
*******Namjoon's POV*******
My phone rang with a video call and I picked it up to see who it was.
Yoongi.
I answered and smiled when his face filled the screen.
"Hi, Hyung. How are you?"
"Honestly? I'm bored," he said. "This shit is horrible. I'd rather be in the Army with the chance of re-injuring my shoulder, than sit behind a desk for even five more minutes."
"You miss us, don't you?" I asked him.
"I didn't say that." He rolled his eyes at me. "But...maybe a little."
"Awww! Hyung, you're such a softy."
"I'm hanging up now," he told me.
"No! Wait. I'm sorry. I'll be nice. What's up? Why did you call?"
"We haven't talked much lately. I know that you finally found your mate and know that he's not Big Foot, but what else has happened since then?"
"Welllllllll..." I drew out the word as I pulled down the collar of my fatigues to show him the mark on my neck.
"Is your mate and Alpha?" He asked me.
"No. He's an Omega. Why?"
"You let him mark you?" He sounded confused.
"Why not? Aurora marked Jimin," I reminded him. "And besides, I would do it a million times over. It felt incredible."
"Gross. I don't need a play-by-play of your mating," he told me with a scowl on his face. "What's his name?"
"Isaac," I said. "He's a doctor in the US Army."
"What is with all of your mates being American?" He asked me. "First Jimin, then Jungkook, and now you?"
"It's not like we get to choose what country our mates are from, Hyung," I told him.
"I know that, I just...find it weird, is all," he said with a shrug.
"You do realize that to stay on trend, your True Mate is probably American, too, right?" I asked him, my words coming out in a laugh.
"Shut up," he said. "I really hope not. How would I ever be able to communicate with them?"
"You can speak English fluently, Hyung," I pointed out.
"No I can't."
"Not liking the way you pronounce things, and not knowing the language at all, are two different things."
"Sometimes your brain is annoying," he told me. "I should have had this conversation with Seokjin. He would feel my pain."
"I don't think so," I told him as I shook my head. "In the Army, they encourage us to learn English, since we deal with American troops a lot. They offer classes and incentives to learn it. And Jin-Hyung did a lot. He might be as fluent as I am now."
He aggressively shook his head. "No. I refuse to believe it. Seokjin and Taehyung are my only comrades in this. The rest of you jumped on that train a while ago."
"And Jimin, Jungkook, and I are all glad that we did. How else would we talk to our mates? Or to ARMY?"
"To be honest, Namjoon," he said, staring at me through the phone screen. "I'm not sure how much 'talking' Jungkook and his mate did."
I sat back and laughed. "Okay, okay. Fair enough. But you do know enough English, just in case that's the language your mate speaks."
"I know, I know." he waved his hand at the camera. "I just hope my mate doesn't laugh at me."
"They won't, Hyung," I told him. "Nobody has the guts to laugh at the great Min Yoongi."
************************************
About five minutes after I ended the video call with Yoongi, my phone rang again. This time, it was my mate.
"Hi, handsome," I said as I put the phone to my ear.
"Hi, Joonie," he told me. I couldn't see him, but I could hear the smile on his face. "Do you want to grab dinner? I'll tell you about the latest member of your pack to ambush me at my field tent."
"Oh, God," I groaned into the phone. "Who was it this time?"
"Aurora."
I instantly perked up. "That's not so bad. She's the tame one."
He laughed. "I like her a lot. She's fun."
"Yeah, she is," I told him. "And dinner sounds great. Do you want me to come and get you?"
"Nah," he said. I could hear the wind through the phone, so he must be outside. "I'm on my way to your barracks right now."
"Okay, baby. I'll meet you out front."
We hung up and I changed into civilian clothes, then went to wait outside.
After twenty minutes, I started to worry. Another ten, with still no Isaac, and I was starting to freak out, so I called him. No answer. I tried again, and still no answer. I pulled up the Life360 app that Isaac had insisted we get to share our location with each other throughout the day. It said he was just down the sidewalk from my barracks, so I followed the little dot on the screen to where it said he was, but he wasn't there. After looking around for a few minutes, I found his phone in the grass, but no Isaac.
I spun in a circle, looking around, trying to find him.
Where in the hell was my mate?!
Mate gone. Mate stolen!
What the hell are you talking about?
Mate taken. From here. Find mate!
Full sentences, Osian. Tell me what the hell is going on.
I can't sense our mates. I don't know where they are. The smell is faint. Like somebody tried to cover it up.
Cover it up with what?
Not sure. Air freshener, I think.
Who would take our mates?
I don't know. I can't catch their scent, either.
Then how do you know that they were taken?
I can just tell. You must find them.
I know that, but how?
I don't know. Call the police. Make sure you get somebody who is one of us.
Yeah. Yeah, okay.
I called 119 and asked for somebody to be sent here, then called my C.O. and explained the situation, and he said he would be here shortly, with some MPs that he knew were our kind, and to move away, and keep others out of the area, so that our scents didn't taint what little scent of Isaac that was left behind.
I was freaking out, so I called the other members, too.
Who in the hell would kidnap my mate?!
