Chapter Twenty-Eight: Root Beer Hunt

*******Isaac's POV*******

The next day, I was typing some patient notes into my laptop at the end of my shift, and I heard a female voice clearing her throat.

"Are you Isaac?" She asked when I turned to look at her.

"I am," I told her, standing up and walking over to her, taking in her obviously pregnant belly and wondering if she was having issues with the baby. "Can I help you with something?"

She held her hand out for me to shake. "Hi. I'm Aurora."

I smiled at her and shook her hand. "You're Jimin's mate."

"Guilty!" She exclaimed as she dropped my hand. "I wanted to meet you, and Jimin was taking too long, so I decided to come and find you myself."

I laughed at her. "I'm glad that you did. I've been wanting to meet you. I didn't know that you were American."

"Yes, I am," she told me. "I'm so happy that one of the other guys has found his mate. I was getting lonely."

"I heard that Jungkook has found his, too," I told her as I walked over to close my laptop so that I could focus on her. "But Jimin said that he was being an idiot about it."

"Oh it's a whole story," she said as she rolled her eyes. "I would love to tell it to you. Do you mind walking with me and showing me where I can buy some root beer?"

I couldn't help but laugh at her. "Joonie told me that root beer was the sole reason you came here."

She giggled and shrugged her shoulders. "Don't tell Jimin."

"You have my word," I told her. I grabbed my phone and put it in my back pocket and packed up my laptop, then turned to her. "Let's go."

After walking for a couple of minutes, she started in on the story.

"So Jungkook's mate...." she said, glancing at me. "First off, she is also American."

"There seems to be a lot of that going around in their pack." I couldn't help but laugh at the coincidence.

"Yeah, it's weird," she said. "I don't know what the deal is with that. But it's your pack, too, now. You and Namjoon mated. You're one of us now."

I smiled at her. "Thanks for that. Please don't get offended if I don't fall right into it, though. It's been a while since I was a real part of a pack. Or had any kind of family. I'm not used to it."

She smiled at me and looped her arm through mine. "Oh honey, you'll get used to it. Trust me. The seven of them will overwhelm you at first, but they're all great guys."

"So far, I've met Jimin, Jungkook, and Hobi," I told her. "They seemed pretty mellow to me."

She leaned her head back and laughed as we walked arm-and-arm.

"Those three? Mellow?!" She laughed again. "They must have been on their best behavior."

"Oh, I know," I told her. "I've been here in South Korea for a little over two years. So I'm not new to K-pop. I didn't recognize Joonie right away, but as I told him, I'm more of a Stray Kids guy. I actually think it broke his heart a little. But anyway, I know BTS and what they're like. I don't expect them to always behave. I know better."

"I bet that did break his heart a little," she said. "And I love that you call him Joonie. It's so cute. But trust me, you'll get roped into BTS just like the rest of the world."

"I already have been since I met Namjoon," I told her with a smile. "He played me a song he thought I would like, which I loved. Then he spent an hour saying 'oh! Listen to this one, too!' and then 'And this one!' I got hooked pretty easily."

"What was the first song he played for you?" she asked me.

"Mikrokosmos. It was beautiful. I love it," I told her. "I think it's my favorite." I looked at her. "So tell me Jungkook's story."

"Well..." she started as we moved out of the way for an MP coming through on a golf cart. "He met Olivia about a month after Jimin and I mated. You know how werewolves work. Even if they met their True Mate, they wouldn't know until after their Alpha has mated with his. By-the-way, just a side note, I wasn't raised as a werewolf. I was adopted. I didn't even know I was one until I met Jimin. So I've been learning about them. If I say anything that sounds dumb or naive about our kind, that's why. Please don't judge me. I'm getting there."

I smiled at her again. I couldn't help it, I like her.

"Well I haven't spent much time around them since I was 19-years-old, and I may have forgotten a few customs, so the same goes."

"Ahhh...yeah," she said, frowning a little. "I hope you don't mind, but I plied at least a little part of your story out of Namjoon."

"It's okay," I told her. "The more he tells of my story, the less I have to tell and relive. But out of curiosity, what did you plie him with?"

"Oh he's easy," she said. "I just made him a steak."

"I'll have to remember that when I want something," I told her with a laugh.

"Back to Jungkook's story, because we keep getting side-tracked," she said, rolling her eyes at the both of us. "I am unsure of the reason, because he refuses to tell any of us, but Jungkook has never had a mate before in a past life. So he doesn't really know what to do with one, and he wasn't ready to settle down with one, yet, anyway. Neither was Olivia, from my understanding. So they got it on for a few months, traveling back-and-forth to each other, just to keep their wolves happy. Then Kook had to enlist, and from what I've heard, he hasn't talked to her since."

"Not once?" I asked, frowning as I looked up to see the sun setting behind the trees at the back of the camp. "How does that even work?"

"They never mated," she told me. "He never marked her, and so they have no problems being apart from each other. I'm kind of jealous, because I had a hell of a time, even before Jimin and I mated."

"How so?" I asked, curious. I knew some of the story already, since Namjoon told me, but I wanted to hear it from her.

"Like I was telling you before, I didn't know that I was a werewolf," she said as we turned a corner, slowly walking towards the commissary. "I was never around any other werewolves, so my wolf never presented. After I met Jimin, and spent a little time with him, Petra started to present. And she was desperate for her mate, so that and the presentation made it really hard on me and my body. I ended up in the ER more than once, because I had no idea what was going on."

"Jimin didn't tell you?" I asked, a little confused. "Why would he do that?"

"My mate is a little....what's the word I'm looking for?" She reached up with her free hand to scratch at her nose as she tried to come up with it. "It's not the word I'm looking for, but stubborn. He thought he knew better than what the rest of his pack was telling him, and that I would be better off without him in my life."

"Why would he think that?" I wondered out loud.

"Because of who he is," she told me with a shrug. "Because of what his life is like on a normal, every day basis. He didn't want me to have to deal with all of it. But in the end, between her mate being gone at the same time Petra was trying to present, it almost killed me."

"Damn. I thought Jimin would be smarter than that," I said.

"Don't get me wrong with that story, Jimin is incredibly smart," she said. "He just sometimes needs to realize that just because he's the Alpha, doesn't mean that he shouldn't listen to the advice of his packmates."

"From what I've seen in my life," I said, looking down at the ground as we walked. "That seems like pretty normal Alpha behavior to me."

"It might be," she said with a shrug. "I don't know. I've only ever been around their pack. But I do know that BTS isn't a normal pack, either. They don't act like a normal pack does. I mean, take the fact that Jimin is the Alpha, but has no problem giving Namjoon the leadership role when it comes to the group. I don't think another Alpha would do that."

"You're right about that," I told her with a laugh. "Most Alphas don't even want to relinquish control over what's for dinner, let alone anything else. And they can be real assholes about it."

"See? That's my point," she said, pointing at me. "Jimin has no problem giving up control sometimes, and he very rarely has asshole tendencies."

"He's special, then," I told her. "I hope you know that."

She smiled at me and squeezed my arm with hers that was still looped through it. "I do know that. My mate is very special. I couldn't have asked for anyone better."

I couldn't help but smile back at her. "You seem really happy with how your life has turned out."

"I am, Isaac," she said. "I have my mate. I have my pack. I have my soon-to-be babies." She paused and rubbed a hand over her swollen stomach, then smiled at me again. "And I have a new friend."

I chuckled softly, feeling at ease, because her attitude was infectious.

"I'm not going to lie, I've been nervous about being a part of Joonie's pack."

"Whatever for?" she asked me. "We don't bite unless we're asked to."

I laughed at her and shook my head. "Okay, I like you. But... They've all been together for so long, and I'm an outsider. I guess I was worried about feeling like a third wheel, you know what I mean? I'm not used to being in a pack, anyway, and coming into this one is a little intimidating."

She rubbed her hand over my forearm to comfort me. "Once you're around all of them, that worry will fly right out of the window. I promise. They have never made me feel like a third wheel. They've been very welcoming. And they've become my family. They'll do the same for you. Because just like Jimin with me, they just want Namjoon to be happy. And it's blatantly obvious that he is, since he met you. And since you're the one making him that happy, they will love you, just for that. But from talking to you, I can tell you that they will love you for a lot more than that, too."

I stopped walking and turned to her, making her release my arm, since it put both of them at a weird angle.

"What's wrong?" she asked me, her brows furrowed together with worry.

"Nothing is wrong," I told her. "Nothing at all. I just... Thank you, Aurora. Thank you for coming to find me this evening. I haven't been able to find a way to tell Joonie about my worries, as far as his pack goes. I don't think I realized how badly I needed somebody to talk to about it. But you have completely calmed them down. So thank you."

She reached her arms out for a hug, but gave me the choice of if I wanted it our not. I did, so I stepped into her arms and hugged her back, being careful of her belly.

"You're welcome, Isaac," she said against my shoulder. "One thing, though."

"What's that?" I asked as we pulled apart.

"Stop saying 'his pack.' We're your pack now, too. You're going to have to get used to it."
