Chapter Sixteen: It Looks Like Sludge

*******Isaac's POV*******

Since the next day was Sunday, I had the day off, and I spent it gathering the ingredients that I would need for the spell. I wanted to get this over and done with. I wanted to let Delwyn out of his cage. I wanted him to be able to be with his mate, just as badly as I wanted to be with mine. I have been unfair to him for so long. I know that putting him in the cage wasn't right, but at the time, it was all that I could think of to do. He was still mad at me, but we had talked a lot lately, and I think he'll forgive me eventually.

I don't know how or why I changed my mind so quickly, but I wasn't going to fight it anymore. Namjoon had texted me a few times today, just to ask if I was sure I still wanted to go through with this. I assured him that I was 100% positive, that I wasn't going to back out, and that he was stuck with me for life now.

He seemed to like the idea of that, and I'm not going to lie, I do, too.

Once I had everything that I needed, I went back to my actual office to make the potion. I had a full lab in there for testing, so I could easily make it there. As much as I would prefer to go full witch, this seemed like a smarter option than explaining to somebody why I had a cauldron, over a fire, in the middle of the woods, on a military base.

I had to use Google Translate to find out how to do the spell in Welsh. I was going to do it in Irish Gaeilge, since my coven is Irish, and I already knew the language, but I also wanted to do it in Welsh for Delwyn. I didn't want to exclude him anymore. I wanted to show him that I was ready for us to become one again, and I think this is a good start.

I texted my mate to let him know that I was ready and I would meet him at our spot. I wanted to do it out there, because I didn't know what would happen once Delwyn was set free. Not all wolves could transform, but he could. Everyone in my old pack could. I didn't want to scare some random person if I started sprouting fur and claws right off the bat. Delwyn hasn't been free in a long time, and I can't blame him if it's the first thing that he wants to do.

I decided to walk to the spot this time, letting the beauty of the forest and the cool breeze calm my nerves. I wanted to do this, but that didn't mean I wasn't still a little bit scared about what could happen.

My nerves calmed immensely once I caught the first scent of juniper and cedar. My mate was already waiting for me.

When I spotted him sitting on the picnic table, I smiled. He was holding a single flower in his hand, and I realized as I got closer what it was. A larkspur. My birth flower.

I cocked my head to the side and smiled as I walked up to him. "How did you..." I wasn't sure what to say. "I've never told you when my birthday is. How did you know what my birth flower was?"

"I didn't," he said, handing me the flower. "Osian told me."

I pulled it up to my nose and smelled the clean, fresh scent of it. Larkspurs barely have a scent, and you have to get really close to it to smell anything. As I smelled it, an idea hit me.

"It's beautiful, but do you mind if I destroy it?"

He looked confused. "I mean...it's your flower. You can do whatever you want with it."

"I want to crush it up into the potion," I told him. "It should make it stronger to have something from my mate in there."

His confused look turned into a bright, dimpled smile when I called him 'my mate'. "You are more than welcome to do that. I love that idea."

I sat the bottle with the potion in it on the table next to him, then walked around, looking for a couple of rocks. I found a flat one and sat it on the table, then another, and used them to crush the petals together until they were small and juicy enough to add into the potion.

Namjoon watched me the whole time, looking fascinated by what I was doing.

"This is what witches used before the invention of the mortar and pestle," I explained to him. "My coven has always preferred to do things the old way. We use things found in nature as much as possible."

"Wolves do the same," he told me. "We like to feel connected to the earth."

"Exactly," I told him with a smile and a nod. "So I get my love of it from both sides."

I added the crushed flower into the potion and put the lid back on, shaking it up as best as I could.

"What do you do with that now?" He asked me.

"I drink it."

He made a face. "It looks like sludge."

"It's the cinnamon in it," I explained to him. "No matter how hot you heat it up, it collects together and looks like a mess. But along with being a necessary ingredient, it should help mask the taste of the vervain and willow tree bark."

"That sounds...disgusting," he told me with a laugh. "I'm glad that it's you drinking it, and not me."

I shrugged at him as I shook the potion up a little more. "It'll be worth it."

He reached out and grabbed my wrist, pulling me so that I was standing between his legs.

"You know that you don't have to do this for me, right?" He asked me, his eyes searching my face for any sign that I wasn't sure about my decision.

"I know," I told him. I reached up and ran my fingers over his short hair. "But I'm not. I love you, but this is for me and Delwyn. I owe him this. And I didn't realize before I met you, and he started being able to talk to me again, that I actually miss him. Having an entire part of yourself missing for so long...I didn't know how much it hurt until he was there again. And I'm ready for him to be here fully."

He pulled me closer and kissed me. "I love you, too."

I nodded my head and stepped back from him. I removed my clothes so that they wouldn't be ruined if I shifted, and folded them into a pile, setting them next to Namjoon. Then I grabbed the potion off of the table and moved even farther away. When he went to stand up, I held up my hand.

"Stay there, please," I told him. "I don't know what's going to happen, and I don't want to hurt you."

He nodded his head and relaxed a little. "I don't think you'll hurt me, but I'll stay put."

I smiled at him. "Thank you."

I took a few deep breaths, trying to calm the nerves that had popped back up when I realized that it was now or never. And that I was completely naked in from of him. Though he didn't comment on it.

Isaac.

'What?'

I want out. I want to be with my mate. But if you're not ready for this...

'I'm ready. I promise I am. I owe you this.'

You owe us both this, but I also don't want you to regret it later.

'I won't, Delwyn.'

If you're sure...

'Stop trying to talk me out of it, you crazy wolf.'

I'm not! I just want you to be happy.

'I am. For once. And I want you to be the same.'

Okay, then. Let's do this.

I nodded my head and said the spell in Gaeilge.

"Briseann mé thú de do cheangail. Lig an cage titim síos. Tá an geasa briste anois. Tá tú saor chun fánaíocht timpeall. Beannacht na Gealaí sinn mar bheirt arís ina gceann. Bíodh an t-am atá caite mar an t-am atá caite agus bíodh an geasa gan déanamh."

When I said it in Welsh, I felt Delwyn purr in happiness inside my head.

"Yr wyf yn eich torri o'ch rhwymiadau. Gadewch i'r cawell syrthio i lawr. Mae'r swyn bellach wedi torri. Rydych chi'n rhydd i grwydro o gwmpas. Bendith Duwies y Lleuad ni wrth i ddau ddod yn un eto. Gadewch i'r gorffennol fod yn orffennol a dadwneud y swyn."

I held the potion bottle up to the sky to let the Moon Goddess bless it, then I tilted my head back a little and swallowed everything in the bottle.

A few things happened all at once.

First I felt the cage break apart in my head, then it was like I could feel the bars melting. I held my head in my hands because I could feel the heat, and it was painful. As I did this, I also felt the fur start to pop through my skin, and my nails grow longer. I felt the bones in my body bend and crack as they reshaped my body, and I cried out. I forgot how much it hurt to transform.

Then all at once, the pain stopped, but I wasn't me anymore.

I was a wolf. I was Delwyn, and he had control right now.

He shook out his fur, then lifted his head to howl at the moon.

A/N: Had to take a pause to go watch the fireworks. My town does this thing called Set the Night to Music, where the fireworks are timed with different songs. One of the songs that they played was Dynamite, so I was happy. Oh, and just in case you're wondering about the words to the spell, they're in the next chapter. -------Kat
