CHAPTER 106 | possession & greed
"Not so fast, Zeta," Sina warned as Syri hurried toward his brother. The alpha reached out her arm to stop Syri from reaching Aki, and Seth gestured to the empty chair next to him before ordering, "Come, sit. You can talk with your brother once dinner is done."
Swallowing the anger that was building up inside of him, Syri clenched his fists and begrudgingly sat next to Black Moon's crown prince all the while keeping his eyes locked on the beta. Aki's head was hung, his chin resting on his chest, and his body was limp. There were no visible exterior wounds on Aki's face, neck, and arms. However, Syri could not be certain there were no damages done beneath the beta's clothing.
"What have you done to him?" Syri inquired with flames in his eyes.
"Oh, come now. Don't ruin dinner with such dark eyes," Seth returned while raising his glass of wine to his lips and taking a sip of the red liquid. Seth released a sigh of annoyance when Syri would not take his gaze of fire off the alpha. "If you really must know, I just fed him a bit of perliph. It's not a harmful drug; it merely makes one drowsy. He was being rather difficult to handle, so to avoid hurting him, I just...made him calm."
"Although," Seth added before sucking his teeth for a moment. "I was really agitated when he became so aggressive toward me. I was admiring your beauty and dreaming of the day I would make you mine, and Aki just had to interrupt that." The alpha released a heavy sigh as he recalled his standoff with Aki. "So, I had to do something about it, of course. Luring you here was one thing, but teaching that beta that going against me was a bad idea was the main reason I took him."
Syri's fists clenched together as he heard Seth berate his brother. Aki was protecting him, and Syri regretted that he was the reason Seth had captured and likely tortured him.
"Enough talk of the beta," Sina spoke up as she stabbed into a piece of the steak she had just cut. "We need to iron out the crinkles in you mating the zeta. We don't have all the time in the world, you know. You need to mate him before the council discovers what we did to the Alpha and Luna. They won't be able to refuse you once you have a zeta as your mate."
Seth set his wine glass on the table and turned to face Syri as he asked, "When would you like to do it? I'm perfectly fine with any time. I could even do it now."
Syri's fists clenched even tighter, and his breath got caught in his throat. He thought he would be given at least a few days to prepare and not be pressured into mating with Seth that night.
"I thought the dinner was to discuss betrothal, not mating." Syri's voice was barely above a whisper; his heart was racing a thousand miles per second, and his body began to heat with fear. There was no way he could fend off both Seth and Sina while carrying a limp Aki out of the dining hall. Syri feared that if he did not mate with Seth that night, both he and Aki would be killed.
"Was that what you wrote in the letter?" Sina asked of her eldest brother with a smirk. "Very sly indeed."
Seth shot his sister a side glare at exposing him and his intentions to mate that very night. "You have until midnight to make the decision," Seth said to Syri, whose face had paled to that of a ghost's. "You can either become my mate, or you and your precious brother will never see the light of dawn."
"Inso!" It had taken all of San's courage to speak up against the crown prince, and all he could muster was the one word.
Seth snarled at his younger brother for protesting, "Stay out of this, San."
"No," San returned. "This isn't right." The omega's eyes grew wet as he looked up at his brother. "Please, don't do this, Seth." Syri watched in awe as the omega glared at his brother.
"San," Seth released in a warning as he growled beneath his breath. "Stay out of it. It's not your decision to make. I am doing this for the pack, for us."
"No, you're doing it for your and Sina's greed." San surprised everyone by standing to his feet and walking over to Syri before taking the zeta by the arm. "I can't let you do this, not after what you did to Mamma and Pappa."
"You don't have a say," Seth said while rising from his chair and yanking San's hand off Syri's arm. "Last time I checked, you were not Alpha of Black Moon."
"No, I am not," San said while taking Syri's hand and pulling the zeta from his seat. "But neither are you, Inso."
"I will be!" Seth yelled while grabbing onto Syri and jerking him away from the omega. "Once I have my mate, no one will be able to refuse me."
"You're wrong, Inso!" San yelled back while standing between Seth and Syri. "Alpha Jae is much stronger than you will ever be. Do you really think you'll be able to defeat a true blood? Especially when you have stolen his betrothed from him?"
Seth's eye twitched with rage from the betrayal. His brother's words pierced him like no other had ever been able to. San had always been the one who looked up to Seth and relied on him. No one had been able to touch San because they knew his brother was extremely protective of him. Some would even say he was possessive. Seth had always done what San wanted and doted on his omega brother. But, now, here he was, stopping him from obtaining his ideal mate and becoming Alpha of Black Moon.
"How dare you, you of all people deem me unworthy?! After all I have done for you. I've protected you, cared for you...loved you. Why...how? How could you do this to me?!" Seth's vision turned red, and could not stop himself from striking San across the face and sending the omega flying toward the ground.
Quick to act, Syri immediately stooped beside the omega and checked on his condition while Seth stewed with rage. "I'm not strong enough? Ha!" The alpha paced back and forth in front of the two wolves on the ground, his eyes flashing from blood orange to red.
"With Syri as my mate, I will crush Jae! I'll make that bastard feel so weak and helpless, and I'll make you watch, both of you." Seth came to lean down beside Syri, whose eyes had widened in fear at the alpha's wicked grin.
"You don't have a choice anymore, Zeta. You will be mine. Now, submit."
Submit, submit. Submit, submit! Submit. Submit! That word echoed throughout Syri's mind as he recalled the time his fated mate forced him to submit. The zeta's breath quickened, and he blinked rapidly as the trauma paralyzed him.
He suddenly felt as if he was back in that dark basement with no light and no way out. The weight of the chains around his ankles cemented the zeta to the floor, unable to move. Eyes glued to Seth's boots, Syri began to hyperventilate at the thought of being forced to submit and dragged away to a deep, dark place once more.
Syri, get ahold of yourself. Syri! Aska's voice snapped Syri from his spiraling thoughts.
Blinking his eyes and taking control over his body, Syri's vision focused to see Seth towering over him. The alpha's eyes were red, and a strong, putrid smell radiated from the male. Seth was emitting his scent as strongly as he could, and Syri nearly threw up from its concentration.
Sina crossed her arms and watched in amusement as Seth made San submit before him and bow his head to expose his neck. That was a wolf's most vulnerable position, and the one standing before it would be given dominance over the one whose neck was bared.
"I will never submit to you," Syri snarled as he lifted his head and rose to his feet. "And I will never be your mate." Seth placed his glowing red eyes on the pink-haired and looked at him in confusion. "Did you forget? I am a zeta, you bastard of a dog. I don't have to bow to your voice. You have no control over me." Syri's eyes flashed aqua as he stood face to face with Seth indicating Aska was active and ready to fight.
"Impressive," Seth commented as he looked the zeta up and down. Syri could see Sina rise from her chair and approach the three out of the corner of his eye, but the main focus was on the alpha in front of him as he frantically thought of ways to get out of the dangerous situation. "You certainly are very powerful and would make an excellent Luna the moment I can control you. But, you see, I have to mate you to control you, so you really give me no choice."
Syri's brows crinkled at Seth's words. "What do you mean?" The zeta took a step back when Seth accepted the glass of wine from his sister. Sina had taken the glass that was positioned at Syri's seat at the table and Seth advanced toward Syri with the red liquid in hand.
"This was supposed to be just a backup plan in case you refused my offer, but I guess it's the only way now." Seth sloshed the dark liquid around the glass as he used his speed to rush up to Syri and grab the zeta by the back of his neck.
Syri instinctively brought his hands to try and pry off Seth's grip, but the alpha was quick to slide his hand up and tighten his fingers in Syri's hair. Grimacing from the pain, Syri released a cry as Seth jerked his head backward and forced Syri to face the ceiling.
"Now, be a good boy and go to sleep," Seth said as he held the cup over Syri's mouth. "It'll all be over by the time you wake up."
Sina joined her brother and pinched Syri's nose with one hand while restraining the zeta with her other.
Hold your breath! Syri sucked in as much air as he could before sealing his lips.
"Now, that's just annoying," Seth released in a huff as he waited for the zeta to run out of air. "Ganz, could you do something to make this go faster?" Seth called out and summoned the man who had been standing guard just outside the dining hall. "Sina and I are kind of tied up right now, and I'm running out of patience."
Heavy footsteps hurried over to the two siblings who were wrangling the zeta, and Ganz was quick to strike Syri in the gut. Gasping in reaction to the hit to his stomach, Syri unintentionally opened his mouth, giving Seth the perfect opportunity to pour the drugged wine down Syri's throat. Syri choked on the bitter liquid as Ganz kept his mouth open and waited until he had swallowed a good portion of the wine before releasing him.
"That took long enough!" Seth exclaimed as he threw the zeta onto the ground. Syri caught his breath and wiped his face, his hands shaking as he saw the red liquid that stained his skin.
Oh no, I can't fall asleep. I have...I have to... Syri's eyelids began to droop as the drug quickly took effect.
Seth came to stand over the zeta as he watched Syri slump to the floor and grow limp. "You put up quite the fight, pretty thing," Seth sneered as Syri fought to keep his eyes open. "I'm going to enjoy tonight."
The last thing Syri heard was Seth cackling evilly as the alpha picked him up and carried him out of the dining hall.
