CHAPTER EIGHT, dancing and cupcakes
After they got over the initial shock and excitement, Harvey and Aurelia rejoined the party. They walked over to the drink table to get some drinks. Aurelia admitted she never tried alcohol before, and Harvey reassured her she didn't have to try it tonight if she didn't want to. He said she didn't need to pressure herself to try it, but she decided she wanted to.
She was curious and wanted to see what it was like. Harvey picked out something for her and let her try it, telling her it was a mix of different drinks. Aurelia sipped it, taking a few minutes before making a decision. She liked it. She was surprised by the taste. She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but it wasn't this. It was fruity and sweet and didn't taste bad at all.
"What was that? I honestly kinda liked it." Aurelia admitted, looking at Harvey curiously.
"I'm glad." Harvey smiles, feeling happy she liked it. "It's a strawberry daiquiri. It has some rum, lime, strawberries and a bit of simple syrup." He explained.
Aurelia grins. "No wonder I like it. I love strawberries." She chuckles. "Thanks."
"No problem." Harvey grinned back. He takes a sip of his own drink and grabbed Aurelia's hand, intertwining their fingers.
Aurelia looked at him, her cheeks dusted pink as a blush creeps up on her face. He leans in, pressing his lips to hers. She kissed him back, closing her eyes. She felt butterflies in her stomach, her heart racing. It felt like fireworks were going off inside her. The kiss only lasted a few seconds, but it was a blissful few seconds.
They rejoined the party, dancing and having fun. Harvey danced with Aurelia, pulling her close. Aurelia didn't know how to dance though the more she drank the strawberry daiquiri the more she began to let loose and dance more. Harvey wasn't drinking any alcohol since he was driving home later, but he still had fun. He loved dancing with her, holding her close and watching her face light up.
Harvey was a really good dancer and Aurelia felt like a klutz. But he was patient and encouraging and told her she was doing great and that he thought she was a good dancer. It helped build her confidence, but she still didn't feel very good. She eventually stopped caring so much and just had fun. It helped that the strawberry daiquiri was really good and delicious. She had a feeling it was boosting her confidence as well.
Aurelia ended up drinking another one of the strawberry daiquiris after she finished the first one and she could feel it making her feel dizzy. She also felt hot, her face was flushed, and her mind felt a little hazy. She was still enjoying herself, though. She was laughing a lot and she felt a little silly, but it was nice. Harvey was a great dancer and was very fun to dance with. He was also really sweet and kind and kept asking her if she was okay and if she needed a break. It made her feel so warm and fuzzy inside. She felt lucky to have such a caring and sweet guy as her boyfriend.
Aurelia's not sure when or how but at one point she got separated from Harvey and ended upstairs. She remembered she was looking for Belly and Taylor to check on them. She had one full cup of a strawberry daiquiri and Harvey was quick to find out she was a lightweight and cut her off. She felt fine for the most part, but her face was red, and she was giggly. Her mind was a little hazy, and her thoughts felt muddled and she was stumbling a little.
But she was mostly fine. She was a little drunk, but not enough to where she wasn't aware of her surroundings and actions. She just was a little clumsy and giggly. Walking up the stairs, she faintly heard her brother, Jeremiah, singing 'Summer Nights' from the movie 'Grease' with Cameron in the living room along with Nicole and some other girls. She found that amusing and part of her felt like joining (she loved that movie and the song, she knew it all by heart), but she wanted to find her friends. If she was more sober, then maybe she would've thought that Belly was with Cameron in the living room.
"Taylor? Belly?" She calls out as she made her way upstairs. She had to pass by some people talking in the hallway. She accidentally bumped into someone, but quickly apologized and continued walking. "Taylor, Belly!" She called out, but no one answered her. She checked one of the rooms, eyes widening at the sight she saw. She hoped she wouldn't remember this tomorrow morning. She quickly stumbled out of the room, apologizing and closing the door behind her. She kept walking down the hallway, searching for her friends when she reached the room at the end of the hall.
She opens the door, her eyes widening while gasping in surprise at the sight before her. Taylor's flower crown was set off on the bed and she was on top of a dresser, kissing a boy with her legs wrapped around his waist. She gasps louder when she realized the boy was Steven. She grew confused when she suddenly felt a weird pang in her chest, her heart constricting and a weird ache filling her. She couldn't describe the feeling, but she didn't like it. "Taylor?" Her voice was slightly slurred, but loud enough for the two teens to hear.
Steven and Taylor immediately separate, eyes wide and their faces flushed. They turn to look at her, surprised and panicked. "Bambi?" Steven gasped out, shocked and horrified. He could not believe this was happening. His mind was spinning, trying to come up with an explanation for this, but his mind came up blank. He knew how this looked and there was no explanation he could give that would make this better. He quickly noticed she was tipsy, her face was flushed and her steps were wobbly. He hated that part of him hoped she would forget this in the morning. He felt terrible.
Aurelia stood there staring at them, her mind not processing what was going on. Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. She felt confused, hurt and betrayed. Taylor was supposed to be her and Belly's best friend. Why would she do this? And Steven had a girlfriend, why would he kiss Taylor? It didn't make sense. She didn't understand. She stumbled to the side when Steven suddenly rushed out, surprising Taylor who called after him, looking hurt and frustrated. Aurelia blinked, staring at Taylor as she jumped off the dresser. Taylor looked back at her, looking worried, scared and guilty.
"Please don't tell Belly." She pleaded.
"What the h***?" Aurelia exclaimed, feeling confused and angry. She couldn't believe Taylor just said that. How could she even ask that? She felt a surge of emotion welling up inside her—confusion, frustration, and a strange sense of betrayal. Her thoughts were swirling, and the alcohol didn't help her process things clearly. She staggered slightly but held her ground, staring at Taylor in disbelief.
"Please." Taylor begs. "She can't find out about this." She pleaded, her voice trembling. Taylor's eyes were wide, filled with desperation and guilt.
Aurelia stares at her, shaking her head in disbelief. "You kissed her brother. He's dating someone! He has a girlfriend! You shouldn't have done that. What were you thinking? I have to tell Belly, she has the right to know." Her voice was slurred, but firm, laced with a mixture of hurt and anger. Aurelia's chest felt heavy, her mind reeling from what she'd just witnessed.
"Please, no. She can't find out about this!" Taylor begs desperately. She grasps Aurelia's hands, her own trembling as tears welled up in her eyes. "You don't understand—this was a mistake! It didn't mean anything-"
"If it didn't mean anything then why did you do it?" Aurelia interrupts, her voice rising with frustration. She pulls her hands away from Taylor's desperate grip, her emotions a chaotic whirlwind of hurt and betrayal. "If it didn't mean anything, why are you begging me not to tell Belly? She deserves the truth. If you don't tell her then I am. I'm not gonna keep a secret like this from her." She snaps, her voice rising. "This is a big deal. This is serious. He has a girlfriend, Tay."
"I know." Taylor says, her voice wavering. "It wasn't supposed to happen, okay? We were just talking, and things just kinda happened. But it didn't mean anything. It was just a mistake, and it'll never happen again. You have to believe me. You can't tell Belly." She said to a tipsy Aurora.
Aurora looked at Taylor, her mind still spinning from the alcohol, but the words were clear enough. She leaned against the wall, trying to steady herself, eyes narrowing slightly as she processed what Taylor had just confessed.
"Are you seriously asking me to keep this a secret?" Aurora's voice was a little sharper than she intended, but she was trying to make sense of the situation. "Taylor...You know how much Belly means to me..." She was not liking this conversation. She was feeling a lot of emotions and her mind was hazy and muddled. The alcohol wasn't helping, but her gut was telling her that this was wrong—really wrong. The frustration was bubbling up, and despite the haze, she couldn't ignore how deeply this situation felt like a betrayal.
"Whatever, I'm not arguing about this. I'm telling Belly." She turned, moving to leave. She stumbled forward, feeling light-headed and dizzy. She caught herself on the wall, her head spinning as she tried to steady herself, but the dizzying sensation only intensified. Her body felt heavy, and the alcohol in her system was making everything more difficult to process. But the weight of Taylor's words—the desperate pleading, the betrayal—was even harder to bear.
Taylor quickly went over to her, helping her steady herself. "Are you okay?" She asked worriedly.
"Fine." Aurelia grumbles, pushing her away. "'M fine. But you need to promise me you won't fool around with Steven anymore. He's Belly's brother and is dating someone. I know you know that."
Taylor nods, looking at her reassuringly. "Yeah, I know. I promise. It was just a drunk mistake. It won't happen again." She promised. She felt a pang of guilt and shame when she said that. She wasn't lying, though. It wasn't a lie. She wasn't planning on fooling around with Steven anymore. She felt awful and she knew she screwed up. She just hoped she could fix things and move on.
"Okay, good." Aurelia responded, her voice softening.
"Are we cool?" Taylor asked, looking at her hopefully. She didn't want to lose Aurelia over this. She had messed up, but she didn't want to push away someone she considered a friend—especially not over something as messy and complicated as this.
Aurelia hesitated for a moment, the weight of everything still hanging heavily on her chest. She wasn't sure if she was ready to forgive Taylor just yet, but she could see how remorseful she was, and part of her knew Taylor was trying to make things right.
Aurelia sighs softly, nodding. "Yeah, we're cool. We're still friends." She told her, smiling weakly.
She meant it, she was still friends with Taylor. She wasn't going to lose her friendship. It was a stupid mistake and they could move on. Aurelia was still tipsy though and she was feeling a lot of emotions and was upset about what she saw, and her thoughts were a mess. So, she had to admit she wasn't exactly being the most rational person right now. Though she knew she was okay with Taylor now. She believed Taylor was really sorry and she knew it was a drunken mistake. Plus, she knew Taylor was a good person and cared about her and Belly.
Taylor was relieved, hugging Aurelia tightly. "Thank you, thank you, thank you. You're the best. I love you, girl." She said, pulling away and smiling with relief.
"I love you too, Tay." She mumbles, hugging her back. "Okay, 'm gonna go. Just promise me you don't go making out with my brothers next." She said, only half-joking.
"Oh, eww, no. Your brothers are hot, but no." Taylor scrunched her face, shaking her head. "Don't worry about that."
Aurelia looks disgusted when Taylor called her brothers hot, but she nods and looks relieved. "Okay, good." She awkwardly waves at her and walked down the hallway. She walks down the stairs, accidentally bumping into Belly. "Belly!" She smiles at the brunette, stumbling a little since she had bumped into her. "Been looking for you, Bells."
"Me too." Belly chuckles, steadying her. "Hey, are you okay? You're kinda stumbling and your face is red." She asks, looking at her with concern. "You tried drinking, didn't you?" She realized, looking amused.
"No." Aurelia denied, giggling a little. She shakes her head, trying to steady herself. "I didn't drink that much," she says, though it's clear from the slight slur in her voice that she might be trying to convince herself more than anything. "Just...A little. I'm fine."
Belly raises an eyebrow, clearly not buying it but deciding not to push further. She crosses her arms, smiling softly. "I can tell. You're still standing, so that's something. I'm cutting you off before you get worse. Let's get you some water and a snack. You're gonna have a hangover tomorrow." Belly told her, grabbing her arm and leading her downstairs to the kitchen.
She gets her some water and one of the cupcakes. Aurelia sips the water and nibbles on the cupcake, not having much of an appetite. "What were you doing upstairs?" Belly questioned curiously, standing close by Aurelia, who now sat on one of the stools at the kitchen island (thankfully that had a back to it because Belly was worried Aurelia would accidentally fall off it) , standing nearby in case Aurelia fell off.
"I was looking for you and Taylor." Aurelia admits, her voice sounding a bit slurred. "Yeah, you know... just making sure everything's cool." She mumbled, her words trailing off, eyes unfocused. She blinked a few times, trying to focus, but everything felt fuzzy, like a haze was clouding her thoughts.
Belly felt her heart swell, touched by that. "That's so sweet, thank you. I was in the living room with Cam. Not really sure where Taylor was." She confessed.
"I found her." Aurelia confesses. "She was with Steven." She added, continuing to eat the cupcake, suddenly feeling hungry. She was also feeling less tipsy and more normal, though her head was still spinning and her mind was hazy.
"Oh." Belly responds, raising her eyebrow in surprise. "Were they together?"
"Yes." Aurelia nods her head. "They were in a room, and they were kissing." She revealed, not thinking too much about it. She was drunk, her mind was muffled and the words just slipped out.
"What?!" Belly exclaims, eyes wide and her face pale. "What did you just say?"
Aurelia giggles a little, her words slurring as she spoke, not fully aware of how much her tipsiness was affecting her clarity. "Yeah... So I, uh, found her," She mutters, her gaze unfocused as she tried to steady herself. "She was with Steven, and they were—" She pauses, trying to form the words but her brain was spinning. "Kissing...Yeah, kissing. They were totally making out. It grossed me out. Very traumatic." She murmurs, her voice still slurs as she eats her cupcake, accidentally getting some icing on the side of her mouth. "Like, what the heck? That's so gross. Eww."
"Yeah, eww." Belly agrees, frowning deeply and feeling confused, hurt and betrayed. She felt anger bubble up inside her, but she pushed it aside. She had to focus on getting Aurelia sober. "Are you sure they were kissing? You're a bit drunk. Maybe it wasn't what you think it was?" She suggested, feeling hopeful.
"Oh no, it was what I think it was." Aurelia confirms, looking a little guilty and feeling bad for Belly. "I'm sorry. Should I have not told you?" She realizes, feeling guilty and worried that maybe she should have kept this a secret. She frowns, tears welling in her eyes. Being tipsy only made her emotions harder to control. She wiped her eyes, feeling both bad for telling Belly and overwhelmed by the situation. "I didn't mean to upset you, Belly. I just...I thought you should know. But I didn't mean to make it worse."
"No, no, I'm glad you told me." Belly reassures her, squeezing her shoulder. "I needed to know." She sighs. "Are you feeling okay? You should go home and get some rest. Do you want me to come with you?" She asked, her concern for Aurelia growing.
"I'm fine. Harvey's here now, he can take me home." Aurelia notices Harvey walking over to them, her face brightening as she sat the now empty wrapping paper on the kitchen island. "There's my boyfriend! Hi, Harvey." She giggled, getting off the stool and stumbling over to him, falling into his arms and wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Boyfriend?" Belly exclaimed, eyes widening with surprise.
"Yeah," Harvey shyly says, stumbling back a little at the sudden impact while his hands immediately went to Aurelia's hips to help steady her. "We're boyfriend and girlfriend now."
"Yeah, isn't my boyfriend so cute?" Aurelia giggled, smiling dreamingly up at Harvey, who blushed at her words. Belly was surprised and shocked to hear this, but then she smiled, happy that they finally got together.
"That's great, guys. I'm happy for you." She told them.
"Thanks, Belly." Harvey replies, smiling back at her. He then looks at Aurelia with concern . "Hey, Aurie. I've been looking everywhere for you." He said, sounding relieved and worried. "You had me worried."
"Sorry," Aurelia slurs, her words heavy as she tried to steady herself against Harvey, who was holding her up. "I was, like, looking for Belly... and Taylor." She giggles, her smile wide and a little too crooked. "But I found Taylor. Guess what?" She pauses dramatically, her eyes twinkling with a mix of excitement and confusion. "She was...Makin' out with Steven. Like, totally makin' out. So gross, right? Ugh, ew."
Harvey couldn't believe Steven and Taylor were kissing. He was surprised, shocked and confused. He felt worried for Belly, noticing how hurt and betrayed she looked. He couldn't imagine what she was feeling. "Belly, you gonna be okay? I think I'm gonna take her home now."
"Yeah, yeah, go ahead." Belly tells him, smiling weakly. She wasn't okay at the moment, but she wasn't going to stop him from taking Aurelia home. "Make sure she gets some rest. Maybe have her drink more water before she goes to bed."
"Will do." Harvey promised. He turns to Aurelia. "Hey, Aurie. You think you can walk? I'm gonna bring you home now."
"I wanna get another cupcake." Aurelia pouts, looking a little disappointed. "I want another one. They're so pretty and so good. Like look at this one!" She perks up more as she holds up the wrapper, then frowns when she realized it was empty, holding it out like a little trophy. "Dang it. I ate it already," She mutters, her voice trailing off as she looked at the empty wrapper with mild disappointment. "I wanted more... Mmm, cupcakes. Why don't I have another one? I need more cupcakes. Gotta keep my energy up, right?" Aurelia giggled again as she clung to Harvey, her arms wrapped around him as she leaned into his warmth. She looks at Harvey, her face lighting up in a dreamy, tipsy daze. "You're so cute, Harvey. You know that?" She sighed contentedly, her gaze unfocused as she tried to focus on him but kept getting distracted by... well, everything.
"Looks like you have some leftover." Harvey chuckles, reaching up to gently wipe the icing off her mouth with his thumb. His face flushes at her compliment. "Thank you, Aurie, I think you're cute too. Even in this tipsy state. C'mon, let's get you home. We can make some cupcakes later when you're sober. You can have all the cupcakes you want, okay?" He bargained, hoping that would work.
"Okay." Aurelia agrees, her face brightening. "Pinky promise?" She reached her hand up, raising her pinky.
"I promise." Harvey links his pinky with hers, grinning. "Let's go." He wrapped her arm around his shoulders, wrapping his arm around her waist as well to help her walk out.
"Are you gonna be okay driving her home?" Belly asked in concern.
"I'll be fine. I didn't drink any alcohol, so I'll be good." He reassures her. "You gonna be okay?" He repeated, concerned.
"Yeah, yeah." Belly says, waving her hand dismissively. "I'm fine. Go take her home."
"Alright, bye, Belly." He turned and helped Aurelia out the door. Outside, he noticed Aurelia's brothers were playing beer pong with Cameron and another boy he had noticed Jeremiah talking to throughout the night. Conrad was the first to notice them and his gaze flickered over to his little sister, who was clearly drunk and leaning heavily against Harvey, her face flushed.
Jeremiah, who was more drunk than her, beams at seeing them. "My sister! The lovebirds." He coos, stumbling over to them and wrapping his arms around the couple. "Y'all are so cute. Hi, guys."
"Hello." Harvey greeted, chuckling while Aurelia giggled.
"Hi, J." Aurelia greets cheerfully. "Are you drunk? You're a bit wobbly." She poked his cheek, giggling again.
"So are you." Jeremiah pointed out, laughing a little.
"No, I'm not." Aurelia denies. "You are. I'm not drunk." She insisted.
"She is drunk." Harvey corrects, chuckling when Aurelia stuck her tongue out at him. "C'mon, we should go. I'm taking her home."
"Oh, boo, why?" Jeremiah whined, pouting.
"Exactly! I wanted another cupcake." Aurelia frowns, perking up when she noticed her older brother. "Connie! Connie, give tell him he should let me get another cupcake before we go!" She waved her arm, stumbling over to him and almost falling onto the table where the beer pong game was. Thankfully Conrad was able to reach out and grab her before she could fall and hit the table.
"Hey, hey, be careful." He says, helping her steady herself. "How drunk are you?"
"Not drunk." Aurelia huffed, crossing her arms and glaring at him.
"Uh huh." He replies, sounding unimpressed. "How many fingers am I holding up, sis?" He held up his hand, holding up two fingers.
"Six." Aurelia answered, her expression serious.
"Nope." Jeremiah giggles. "So wrong, Aurelia. It's three, duh. How did you get six?"
"I'm not drunk, you're drunk." Aurelia huffed, glaring at her brothers.
Harvey chuckles a little, walking over to her to help steady her. "I'm sorry, Aurie. We can make cupcakes when you're sober, remember? We pinky promised. Plus, I think we should leave before you pass out."
"Okay." Aurelia relents, pouting a little. She then smiles, leaning against him. "Bye, J. Bye, Connie." She waved, grinning at them as she followed Harvey to his car.
"Bye, sis. Have fun." Jeremiah snickered, giggling.
"Bye, guys." Conrad said, watching as they walked away.
Harvey had driven her home and helped her upstairs, getting her settled into her bed. She had passed out when her head hit the pillow. He smiled fondly at her, taking her shoes off and making sure she was comfortable. He pulled over the trash can on case she got sick and put a water bottle on the nightstand for when she woke up. He leaned down, kissing her forehead and pulling the blanket over her.
"Goodnight, Aurie." He whispered, quietly leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
