Chapter 7

"Hey, Sam." Colby replied as he walked in and shut the door. "How are ya holding up?" He asked now seated beside Sam in the hospital chair. "Eh. Could be better, could be worse." Sam answered, looking at his fingers as they fidgeted in his lap. "So when are you getting out of the hospital?" He asked, now looking at Colby with his blue eyes. "Um... I don't know, honestly. I hope this evening or tomorrow. How about you?" Colby asked. "Tomorrow. They're just keeping me overnight to make sure it's not something they missed or something." Sam replied, still looking at Colby. Damn. His eyes are really blue. Did I seriously just realize that now? Colby thought to himself. "You okay, Colby?" Sam asked, causing Colby to jump as he left his thoughts for a moment. "What? Oh, yeah. I'm fine. Why do you ask?" He answered nervously. Sam gave him a weird look, but let it go. "Okay. You just started staring into space." Sam said. "Yeah, I've been doing that a lot recently and I don't know why." Colby stated as he realized he was right. Everything just dropped into a complete silence. It wasn't an awkward one, it was actually quite peaceful. Well, Colby thought so. What if I'm starting to catch feelings for Sam? That would explain why I've been thinking these weird things lately. Nah, I don't swing that way. Plus, he's got Katrina, at least for now. Colby thought as he remembered what he heard Kat and Devyn talking about earlier that day. Colby cleared his throat, standing up and walking to the door. "I'll be right back. I'm going to find the others." Sam looked up. "Oh, okay." "Okay." Colby said, not knowing what else to say as he shut the door after stepping out of the room. He looked in his room first to see if Elton was still sitting where he was before. Of course he wasn't like Colby suspected, so he went outside to see if he was there. To his surprise he was along with everyone else. They were all talking about something and didn't notice him come out. "Did anyone get a hold of Katrina?" He asked, chuckling as he scared everyone but Aaron and Elton in the process. "Dude. Don't scare us like that." Corey said, holding his hand on his heart as he tried calming his breathing. "Yeah, bro. You scared the shit out of us. Not cool." Jake intervened, sitting on the ground rubbing his tailbone as he fell when Colby scared him. He's Jake, it's not surprising anymore, but still funny. Everyone else plus Colby laughed as they saw Jake still on the ground. "And no. We haven't gotten a hold of Kat yet. We've called her, but it keeps going to voicemail." Jake answered, as it appeared that no one else was going to. "Okay. Sam wants to see you all, so I came down here to tell you guys, but that question came to mind as I was on my way, so I asked." Colby said. Everyone nodded and started following Colby.

Once they got to Sam's room, Colby knocked again for privacy reasons and in case a doctor was in there checking up on him. After a moment, there wasn't an answer. Colby looked back at everyone with a confused look. "Huh. That's weird. If there was a doctor, they would've answered if he didn't." "He could be asleep." Elton said, as Colby got an idea. "Hold on. Can everyone back up, a little bit?" Colby asked. Everyone exchanged looks then did as asked, and Colby opened the door. He looked in and saw that Sam was asleep. He shooed everyone away so Sam could sleep in peace and stepped into the room and quietly shut the door. Just to make sure, Colby walked over to the machine to see if it was beeping the same pace and sound from before. Thankfully, it was. If it wasn't, that wouldn't be good. Colby turned back around and sat in the same seat he did until he went outside a while beforehand. As he sat there, he just watched Sam, sleeping peacefully in the bed, but not in a creepy stalker way, just admiring his best friend. He closed his eyes, thinking to himself. Dude, you've gotta stop doing this. You're straight and this makes it look like you're not. But what if I'm not, huh? What if I've been gay this entire time but I never knew it? Well, what do you think? You just admitted you could be gay. "Seriously, brain?" Colby heard himself say as it had woke him up by scaring him, realizing he fell asleep. He looked up from where his head was sitting on his good hand to see Sam looking at him, smiling. "You have arguments with your brain in your sleep too?" He asked with a smirk on his face. Colby chuckled nervously. "What all did I say?" "Not much. Just you arguing with what sounded to be your brain about you possibly being gay." Colby's mouth dropped. "Oh my God. Seriously?" He asked more himself than Sam though Sam replied. "Yup. So are you?" Sam asked. Colby sighed. "I honestly don't know anymore. I mean it could be that Brennen and I act gay for each other or..." he didn't even get to answer his statement as Sam interrupted. "Or us?" Colby let out a heavy sigh and nodded. "But I know you and Kat are together, so I'll just let it not affect our friendship even if it isn't you because for all we know, it could be Brennen." Colby lied. He secretly knew he had feelings for Sam, so he didn't say anything. "We've been best friends since high school. I get it. It was probably bound to happen anyways, like everyone else expected." Sam agreed. "Wait. Like everyone else expected? What do you mean by that, Sam? Seriously. What is that supposed to mean?" Colby asked, raising his voice. Sam was looking up at him, wincing as Colby's voice got louder. "I-I don't know." Colby walked towards the door. "Remember that time before one of our videos where we agreed it would happen?" Colby sighed as he remembered what Sam was talking about. "Hold on. I didn't agree. You did, not me." "No, you agreed too. You even said so." Colby thought for a moment until he realized Sam was right, but it was for a different reason. "Yeah, I did, but because I wanted to make you happy." Sam went silent after that. "Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, looking down at his now still fingers as they laid in his lap like before. Colby let out a heavy sigh. "Because. I knew this would happen." He answered as his voice quieted. "What do you mean, Colby?" Sam asked, confused. "I mean I knew you would ask why I didn't tell you." Colby answered. "Well? Why didn't you?" Sam asked again. "I don't know. I guess I just didn't want it to ruin our friendship." Colby was now looking at the floor as he scuffed his foot, leaving black streaks on the white tile. Sam's expression softened. "You do realize nothing could ruin what we have, right?" Colby looked up at Sam from where he was still standing. "Yeah, I guess. I just... I don't know." He answered. Sam and Colby both yawned. "We can finish this conversation later. You need sleep." Colby told the tired blonde as he yawned again. "Okay." Sam replied, his eyelids suddenly grew heavy. He laid back down on the bed. Colby walked to the door until he heard Sam speak as he opened the door. "Can you stay?" Colby smiled. "Yeah." He walked back over to he chair and sat down. "Thank you." Sam said quietly. Colby smiled brighter. "You're welcome. Now get some rest." He replied. And with that, Sam closed his eyes and fell asleep. Colby watched him for a couple of minutes until he grew weary too. He rested his head on his left hand once again and slowly drifted to sleep.
